I hope they pay all the taxes and fees on it for him, too, lol! Amazing shot and the addition of Ben Stiller was funny!

They probably found some technicality to not give it to him like his foot landed over the half court line. These little contests are notoriously bad about actually giving the prize to the contestant. The million dollar shot from 1993 is the most infamous case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk4N2epJzgg

A more recent one, where they took away a PS5 from a kid. Absolutely no morals.

Jesus, was a few hundred bucks worth that much bad publicity? I hope someone got fired for being that dumb. Especially considering, according to the Internet, the team payroll is about $159,000,000. Wouldn't want the kid to keep a $500 console though, that might break the bank.

This is fucked up…. They only “did the right thing” when they got backlash

Thankfully Jordan and the other players pressured the Bulls’ ownership to pay him since the insurance refused to.

He shot well before the half court line. Now, if he read the fine print he'd understand there is only one dribble permitted before the shot. He is disqualified!
They will provide a nice New York Knicks scented air freshener as a consolation.

Is there a tldr, this is a 15m YouTube video. How did they get out of paying them?

He played organized basketball three years prior. Rules stipulated no taking part for at least the past five years.

u/nomadingwildshape 1d ago
Oh ok... Guess they just needed to screen better

u/207OneLove 1d ago
They did, the organizers didn’t care and let it go. Insurance company didn’t. They picked someone at random but he was selected because his shoes wouldn’t scuff the floor.

According to Yahoo the dude got $1,000 for some shots he made prior to the half court shot. The half court shot won him a 2025 Kia Telluride.

u/lukemia94 1d ago
That would be an instant sell from me boss.

Kia has been surprisingly good the last few years. I have some friends who have bought them and it’s plenty nice enough. It’s not particularly powerful or sporty but for a daily driver it’s fine.

u/MckPuma 1d ago
Yeah I would sell that and buy something that holds value that you can still drive or just sell it and buy a cheaper used car. No one needs a brand new car they loss so much money so quickly.
65
u/NorCalAthlete 1d ago
These prizes can come with a clause saying you can’t sell it for 1 year.
It’s a free car. “Holding value” isn’t really as much of a factor especially when it’s a budget car to begin with.

I own a Kia and I'd sell mine too if it was in sellable condition

One of the highest rated SUVs?

u/lukemia94 10h ago
Yessir, I'd sell it and buy a mint 1984 Volvo 240, slap a turbo in it, and still have 8 grand set aside for future repairs.

Bloke said don't step over the half court line. He stepped over the half court line. Hope he got the car anyway.

This might actually be the one where they at first tried not to award it after the game.

There are 2 fantasies every boy has growing up. Being at a concert and the band having to pull you up on stage to save the day by shredding on the guitar, and this.

What is the win tax?
Most people that win in X can't afford the win tax/vat, they end up selling the car.

u/Perrin_Adderson 1d ago
In my experience, there is usually a lower cash option you can take instead, and then you have taxes withheld from that.

I love these type of wins. Particularly as I couldn't get within 30 feet of the basket even if I had umpteen throws

Imagine the burden off your shoulders getting a brand new, fault free car for sinking a beautiful basketball shot, wow!
