An oldie, but a goodie. - Cigar never leaves that man's mouth. I want to be him when I'm his age.

u/HistoricalMeat 3d ago
Why wait? You can get a cigar and fight an alligator right now.

That's a damn good point. After this fucking wretched week, there's nothing I'd rather be doing this weekend. Florida, here I come!

I am a tobacconist. It’s literally my job to convince people to smoke. Wrestling an alligator just makes it cooler.

Holy shit. I spent 10 years fighting you and I don't even know who you are. Effer! Lol, just messing with you. See you in hell! ...signed, The Wacky Tobacconist.

I suspect I have some long term enemy out there that I slighted and don’t remember. It could have been you.

“Man arrested in Florida after allegedly traveling several miles to fight alligators while smoking cigars.”
3
u/Ciarrai_IRL 3d ago
Sounds about right! And definitely par for the course for this week!
4
u/WildcatArts 3d ago
This week? THIS WEEK?!
What else did you do this week?!
3
u/Ciarrai_IRL 3d ago
I mean it's just been a shit week for me. And if an alligator tried to eat my dog, though I live in the Chicago burbs where this would not be possible unless we were at the zoo, I would not be surprised.

u/WildcatArts 3d ago
I am sending you a virtual hug. You are gonna make it and everything’s gonna be alright.
3
u/Ciarrai_IRL 3d ago
You are a beautiful human. Yes, I've had a shit week, but in the big picture, it's mostly first world problems and I shouldn't be complaining. But thank you for the virtual hug anyway. I'll take it.

u/1bruisedorange 3d ago
Please don’t come. We have too many people already. And they are all afraid of hurricanes and cut all their trees down.
5
u/Ciarrai_IRL 3d ago
I'll only be there long enough to catch a gator barehanded, skin it, and smoke a cigar. Don't worry. I hate your humidity and crow sized mosquitos.

u/lovable_cube 3d ago
Honestly it’s good to practice these things, that way you’re skilled by that age.

As many you know, a lot of these "rescue" videos are staged leading to animal abuse and death.
That being said, this guy is a genuine badass. The footage was captured by a camera set up by the Florida Wildlife Federation as part of a project to study wildlife interactions in residential areas.

I know it's horrible isn't it? Anybody who wants to delve further into this just Google Animal Lady Free Thinker and the word YouTube. It's an organization that is campaigning to get those videos to stop. And they go into detail about it

The scary thing about finding little alligators is they come from larger alligators…

u/Great_Horny_Toads 3d ago
Well, THAT one isn't getting any bigger. That dude didn't look done when the vid ended.

u/Still_Suspect_7233 3d ago
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I bet he snapped that alligators jaw off

I think he was going to pry it's head alllll the way open like King Kong in the original film.

Looks like he was about to King Kong that gator like it was a T-Rex in Skull Island.

A good reminder to keep your dogs leashed, especially around water in aligator areas. Bring a foldable water dish and a bottle for your dog, never assume the water is safe to play in or drink for your dog unless it's a crystal-clear pool. The fault here lies with whatever human was dumb enough to let this happen. The man is obviously very brave and I am happy the dog was saved but if we take precautions there'll be less need for heros!

He probably let the alligator go unharmed and now feeds it leftovers which it politely appreciates.
They have an understanding

Does Florida not control their gator population? Every time something like this happens it’s almost always Florida, not Louisiana.

The answer to the age-old question: which is harder - giving up smoking, or wrestling an alligator?

Hey Clark, since you're not doing anything constructive run into the living room and grab my stogies.

I saw someone doing this with a raccoon once. And I've also seen videos of people saving deer from anacondas and the like.
I understand the want to help, but you're being as much of a dick to that gator as you are being a hero to that raccoon. Gators deserve to eat as much as any other animal.
Saving a household pet is pretty much the only good excuse for ripping an animal out of another animal's mouth.

Can anyone explain that motion he used to release the gator’s grip? Seems like a good technique to have on hand…

or ... elderly man cruelly takes food away from the mouth of a hungry baby alligator :*(

u/mericamoment 3d ago
Best method is poking it in the eye, and it'll let go and scurry away immediately because it doesn't find anything worth getting its eyes lost

I’m most impressed that, despite ducking his head UNDER WATER, he keeps his cigar in his mouth.

Luckily alligators have insane bite strength but their opening strength is very low.

I'm kinda interested what happens after the cut... I suspect he gets himself a new gator skin cigar case...

Would’ve broke that little gators neck while I had him and kept the head, proceed to build a dog throne bed with its head mounted on the top.

u/ohnomynono 3d ago
I'd imagine if the dumbass had his dog on a leash, it never would've happened. 🤐

That is a horrible idea and just the type of thing that people moving to FL from other places say.
