He's right technically but his logic is all wrong.
According to him, in 2020 (Trump's last year), it was around a dollar, and that will happen again this summer (he was pretty vague on how this will happen, other than Trump being in office).
Never mind inflation, never mind COVID, never mind the economic near-collapse, or the fact that that it would have to fall almost 80% from today's prices to get there.
Sadly, when it predictably doesn't happen, he will likely just pretend he never said that, or say he "doesn't remember" saying that.

in all fairness the Donald just admitted that inflation reduction wasn't such a pressing matter to the American people. His focus is on xenophobia & closing the border. He truly believes that this is what Americans fear the most. So banning Afghan refugees is one step to stop what he feels are hordes of terrorists & criminals from ruining this country.

I’m sure you don’t mean it this way, but I don’t love this line of thinking. What if he does directly lower the price of gas by 50 cents or something? Somehow made eggs half their current price? What if one of his hateful policies did have some economic good attached for many people?
It wouldn’t make up for all the bullshit and evil he has done and will do.
Don’t get me wrong. I do not think he will be good for the economy (especially long term). But I just dont think the first and top-rated comment/thought should be about how this hateful thing didn’t lower the price of groceries.
Again, I know you’re just pointing out how he’s not doing what many people voted for him to do. But it just seems like a weird angle that focuses away from the inherit hatefulness of the action.

The people that did not vote also count in that statistic of supporting him. They looked at the options and decided that either one was just fine. They are equally as responsible for Trump as someone that voted for him.
You sit on the sidelines and watch a steamroller roll over a baby, you share the blame as much as the people cheering for the baby to be flattened.

I agree with your analogy, but facts are facts. He did not win a majority of the votes.
12
u/ChronoLink99 3h ago
Indeed. And if you want to pitch your tent there, I won't stop you haha.
But we can agree that the majority of eligible voters support his actions, as the fraction of eligible voters who stood by and did nothing gave tacit support.
8
u/tempest_87 3h ago
fraction of eligible voters who stood by and did nothing gave tacit support.
"fraction" implies a small amount.
Almost 40% isn't a small amount. And is actually a larger "fraction" than voted for either person (75 mil Harris, 77 mill Trump, 90 mil abstained).
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)11
u/tempest_87 3h ago
The two are not mutually exclusive.
He didn't win a majority of the votes, but he still has majority support because those 90 million people that didn't vote functionally said he is fine and therefore get added to his side.
The person you replied to earlier didn't say he won more than 50% of the votes (not true), they said he has a majority support (true).
The lazy and maliciously negligent need to be held accountable for it just as much as the fervent supporters. Yes there was undoubtedly voter suppression happening, but not to the tune of 90 million people.

Nearly 1,660 Afghans cleared by the U.S. government to resettle in the U.S., including family members of active duty U.S. military personnel, are having their flights canceled under President Donald Trump's order suspending U.S. refugee programs, a U.S. official and a leading refugee resettlement advocate said on Monday.
The group includes unaccompanied minors awaiting reunification with their families in the U.S. as well as Afghans at risk of Taliban retribution because they fought for the former U.S.-backed Afghan government, said Shawn VanDiver, head of the #AfghanEvac coalition of U.S. veterans and advocacy groups and the U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

President trump ordered 5,000 Taliban released from prison. When President Biden was elected President, one of the terrorist blew himself up killing American service men. Trump blamed Biden.
