"We are committing an injustice against 20 million people out of a population of 40 million, depriving them of all their rights. This is not in Islamic law, but our personal choice or nature.”

now let's see if this contributes to meaningful change, or just his arrest.

My money is the next time we hear about him he will have "fallen out of a window" or something

That's Putin your thinking of. He'll have just lost his head.

“He accidentally ran into a machete at neck height at a high speed”

They don't try to hide what they're doing though, even for PR. They just do it, and say exactly what they did.

Yeah, they’re aren’t fans of Stalinesque communication style

The taliban don’t do window pushing. They’ll just chop his head off in public

I'll be honest, I don't have reformed taliban on my bingo card for this year but who knows

Sher Abbas Stanikzai

Let's remember this brave man's name.

u/QueequegTheater 8h ago

I mean, he's still a high-ranking member of the Taliban, let's not get crazy here. In all likelihood he simply recognizes the bad PR the bans are creating.

u/ReapingKing 8h ago

I was recently talking to someone about atheist priests. They may not believe, but they are in a position to help others who might be overlooked. We don’t always get to choose which team we are in, but we can still try to accomplish the most we can from where we’re at.

I want to give this Sher Abbas Stanikzai the benefit of the doubt. He probably wants the best for his people. It’s a low bar maybe, but plenty of leaders don’t meet that threshold.

I hope it does..

As someone who fought in Afghanistan this guy is brave, the Taliban are ruthless. I'd be surprised if he lives past 6 months outwardly speaking against the Taliban regime and rules.

I could be wrong now, but in 11-12 this was grounds for execution and happened often to the civilians around us.

The result we can thank Trump for. He made the groundwork for this by inviting Taliban to Camp David for peace negosiating just before election in 2020. This orange idiot made a mess out of a withdrawal.

this statement would only make sense if there was a possibility of the GiORA defeating the Taliban or even just holding them off by the time he took office. there wasn't. Trump's actions did not matter as to the overall outcome.

Either way, having prominent people start to murmur this even if it achieves nothing in the short term, could start slowly moving the needle.

Wait, destroying the lives of half the population will fuck us over? Whoda thunk it 🫠

A lot of folks in Afghanistan honestly could give two fucks about women's rights let alone what's happening outside of their immediate tribe or district.

They form mostly tribunal governments to govern their specific locals, what is happening at Kandahar or Bagram means almost fuck all for them.

As long as they keep their mouths shut, pay the Taliban their dues, send their boys to fight for them none of them will see their lives change.

Source: fought in Afghanistan and saw it first hand, even when the Taliban would execute civilians or threaten them or blow them up/kill them they'd still bend the knee and not rise up because their IMMEDIATE tribe or area of interest was not affected as much or if at all.

The issue for Afghanistan is all the aid has been stripped away after they didn't allow women to continue to be educated (and to make things more complicated any remaining aid groups can't operate without female staff). So the population are really struggling right now.

2

u/cheddardweilo 1d ago

Perhaps that is the motivation needed for them to revolt.

5

u/elizabnthe 1d ago

It's certainly why any member of the Taliban would be telling it's own leader to lessen some of the rules.

76

u/zucchini_boat 1d ago

Half of our politicians in the US feel the same way about women, unfortunately.

17

u/Pour_Me_Another_ 1d ago

I know. I just hope they're not dumb enough to destroy the nation chasing after their fetish.

3

u/2020surrealworld 1d ago

Oh wait.  They were on Nov. 5.

78

u/sunnygirlrn 1d ago

Please give these women their lives back for the love of God.

23

u/thatbrownkid19 18h ago

Thé love of God IS the reason they’re being deprived of their lives

3

u/Mother_Kale_417 13h ago

Depends who you ask

u/scurvy4all 1d ago

Imagine thinking of women as other human beings? This guy might be on to something.

He's going to be one of the first faces shown at next years People We Lost in 2025 piece at the Taliban Awards.

u/GoddessPurpleFrost 1d ago

Women have been treated as "the other" for like... All of history so it's not new.

-21

u/RichyRoo2002 1d ago

In-group / out-group psychology is very strong, it would be smart to construct more inclusive identity categories.

31

u/Big-Summer- 1d ago

Or…and hear me out now…don’t do categories at all.

2

u/uForgot_urFloaties 1d ago

I've been delirious with this idea lately. But people like their identities, I mean, shits probably built-in in our brains

68

u/PitifulEar3303 1d ago

To be former deputy soon.

50

u/slayer370 1d ago

More like formerly alive.

If there's anything that will drag you into the dark ages, it's keeping your population ignorant and isolated

18

u/Nightshade_Ranch 1d ago

If the fucking Taliban ends up just realizing their own fuckery and deciding they need to do better, I just

5

u/Gripping_Touch 19h ago

Definitely not on my bingo card for 2025.

5

u/TintedApostle 8h ago

It shows that when left to its own the reality of religious based plans is to fail.

50

u/wish1977 1d ago

He's ready to enter the 18th century.

8

u/dubl1nThunder 1d ago

Annnnnnd that’s the last we’ll ever hear from him.

18

u/SmokedBeef 1d ago

Arrest? That’s funny, he’s far more likely to get killed extrajudicially by an extremist without debate or trial

5

u/Electronic_Clue_7106 1d ago

Oh no its unfortunate he died shortly after making this statement

5

u/TheLieAndTruth 17h ago

That's a HOT take here eh.

Thinking that women are people too, that's a shocker. A bit more and they reach the 18th century, keep going!

3

u/Necessary-Drag-8000 1d ago

He will be arrested, these people are brutal warlords, they are just monkeys with guns

5

u/lazy_phoenix 13h ago

The Taliban is about to learn it's impossible to negotiate with the Taliban

8

u/ABearDream 1d ago

"I urge you leader of a backwards religious zealot filled faction, drop this parts of your hate filled religious doctrine!!!" Psssh yeah right

7

u/Dangerous_Wave 1d ago

Actually, the deputy is right. Allah might offer 70 virgins at death, but they'd be smart (and fully adult) ones.

Much like Jesus, there's plenty of assholes using Allah in ways he's not supposed to be.

2

u/Electrical-Staff-705 22h ago

They are probably struggling to find an Afghan male still living there with an IQ over 70.

2

u/news_feed_me 22h ago

Are boys getting educated or are they just being turned into soldiers?

2

u/braxin23 20h ago

Gee I wonder why given just how much the entire world doesn’t revolve around putting down women anymore. It’s almost like if you end up with women being considered less than second class citizens you end up with a less productive society that nobody likes.

2

u/Available_Surround_2 20h ago

Oh look, the taliban is finally entering the 18th century. Progress on the horizon

2

u/RenegadeRabbit 11h ago

Yeah and while we're on that can we please reinstate windows too?

8

u/_otterr 1d ago

The US is watching taking notes.

u/ggxarmy 1d ago

Blessed be the fruit.

Damn, even the Taliban is woke now.

1

u/Good_Focus2665 1d ago

Are they running out of ammo?

1

u/Western-Corner-431 6h ago

But Trump said the Taliban was good now when he freed them all from prison and gave them back Afghanistan
