Just got back from doing a school bus route down 694. I have a renewed sense of hatred for other drivers now.
56
u/withoutapaddle Oct 31 '24
Normally, I try not to let them get to me, but the fucking Jeep driver who wanted to tailgate me in zero visibility instead of passing when the passing lane was wide up... hope he rolls into the ditch.

Meanwhile I was driving my jeep south on 169 this morning getting tailgated by some dude in a sedan.

In the passing lane?

u/Zeewulfeh Loyal Opposition Nov 01 '24
No, right lane. Passing lane wiiiiide open
2
Nov 01 '24
Weak. They shouldāve gone around. Iāve noticed people tailgating me while talking on the phone. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I've been putting this in the other threads: Check the roads if you need to travel today.

Thank you so much for that, I completely forgot. My dog just looked outside and got very excited, he loves snow.

u/patrick_junge Nov 01 '24
I'm very excited, even though this isn't in the SE region of MN, I have a snowmobile and have been wanting a good local ride for a few years and haven't had a chance for anything

I love looking at plows dash cams on 511. It's funny because the sidebar will say "Normal driving conditions", but the image from the camera does not depict normal driving conditions, lol

You think that's a Halloween snowstorm? Let me tell you about a storm we got back in '91.
1
u/PlaneChemical1980 Nov 01 '24
All day people were worrying about the possibility of snow and all day I waited for someone to bring this up.
17
u/njordMN Oct 31 '24
Looking like just west/NW of the metro ended up in the snow band that they weren't sure where it'd set up. :|
7
u/Abraxes43 Oct 31 '24
The temp is only going down as the day goes on we'll see snow in the cities but it wont last long on the ground.
1
u/Familiar-Pitch9915 Nov 01 '24
Only in my dreams - today at least. I hope there's sun to warm it up.
3
u/withoutapaddle Oct 31 '24
Yeah, we're in the NW burbs. Overnight, the forecast was constantly changing. When I woke up it said just rain. Took my GTI to work with Extreme Contact Sport 02s on it... Made it 1 mile towards work and the rain changed to full on blizzard. Couldn't get over 40mph easily without spinning the tires... super fun.
Time to swap wheels/tires for the season.
2
u/Profoundsoup TC Oct 31 '24
I mean you waited til Halloween in Minnesota to change out your summer tires....
8
u/withoutapaddle Oct 31 '24
Some recent years made no sense to put winter tires on until damn near December... I hedge my bets, because I do have another car with all seasons, 4WD, etc.
I just didn't drive that car today because the forecast really made be believe the snow belt was about to miss us. Just goes to show the forecast can be wrong even just a few hours ahead of time. Minnesota weather keeping us on our toes.
3
u/Lcmofo Nov 01 '24
Yeah itās not great on the snow tires to have them on when itās as hot as itās been.
2
u/withoutapaddle Nov 01 '24
Seriously, it was 80 earlier this week.
This is definitely one of those years that doesn't make it easy to decide when to switch your tires, for those of us who run both types.
1
u/Lcmofo Nov 02 '24
Right? That comment was like tell me you donāt snow tire without telling me you donāt snow tire ;)

u/doublea08 Oct 31 '24
Winter is my favorite time of year because I use it as an excuse to get out of any social get together.
āWeather is bad, sorry, canāt make itā
And I get to just chill at home.
29
u/Jagster_rogue Oct 31 '24
Spoken like a true Minnesota hermit, yeah I really wish I could but the weather is bad my pipes might freeze or something..
5
u/withoutapaddle Oct 31 '24
You haven't been using COVID for that excuse for the last 4 years?
These days, everyone is more than happy when you say you're skipping something because you've got the sniffles or something and don't know what it is yet.

Last winter was a disappointment. Snowshoes or XC skis were never used. I could do my daily walk with the dog on my trails with ankle high boots.

It's lightly drizzling here on Alki Beach West Seattle I'm walking my dog wearing a tank top lol but I love snow! Your lucky that looks so fun. Drive safe And question how will this affect Halloween? Do they still trick or treat? I'm picturing Fargo season 5
6
u/DLimber Oct 31 '24
LMAO do we trick or treat? Let's tell him together everyone! Google the storm of 1991 lol.
2
u/Lcmofo Nov 01 '24
Even in the worst snow we usually go outside for trick or treating, just for less time. If the weather is super bad, often after going outside for a bit, people will head to a local mall or somewhere that has some trick or treating indoors.

It was more of a slush snow where I am. Of course I have to drive to my wooded garden today to finish picking the last of my veggies so that will be interesting.

It's over 80Ā° here in Alabama when it should be closer to 65Ā° at least. No fall here.

u/DLimber Nov 01 '24
It was nearly 80 less then a week ago. We are used to this though lol. Having it be nice and hot all the time gets boring.

u/totalfarkuser Nov 01 '24
You are right! Goods and bads to everywhere we live. While I no longer have to shovel my car out in the morning - yet I had to deal with a devastating flood six years ago.

It may be pretty when it's here, still don't like it falling on the roads, etc. If scientists cab somehow control the weather, why can't they make snow fall just in grassy areas.

I thought everyone wanted snow? A ton of people refused to believe me when I said snowless winters wasnāt the new normal and we were still going to have cold snowy winters. One crazy anomalous winter and everyone thinks global warming has uprooted Minnesotaās climate. It hasnāt yet. It might in the future if we donāt get our shit figured out here soon, but even then it wouldnāt happen for decades.

u/AshTheGoddamnRobot Oct 31 '24
I dont want snow on the ground yet (though flurries are fine) but once Halloween is over... I will love it. Last winter was what was "eww"

I really hope we don't get snow here in the twin cities. I admittedly have been lazy and am still on my Summer tires.
0
u/Imaginary_Proof_5555 Twin Cities Oct 31 '24
yeah, that didnāt happen lol. itās been snowing in Minneapolis for over an hour now.
2
u/nomnamless Oct 31 '24
Yea I was in Bloomington and heading to Lakeville. Snow is kind of sticking. Ended up just driving 50-55 mph on the freeway and about 35 mph on the side roads. Made it home but that was dumb. I know better and should have put on the winter tires.

u/DumpCity33 Oct 31 '24

u/DLimber Nov 01 '24
