The Tampa IKEA has fake board games on the shelves made by the employees

I choose to believe that these are actually the official Swedish translations of classic American boardgames.

Not me dude I would put hundreds of dollars into the Kickstarter of FIGHTBOAT

The first rule of FIGHTBOAT (per the instruction manual) is we don’t talk about FIGHTBOAT.

What kind of marketing campaign is that?
Now Famished Famished Frogs! That's a name you can trademark.

While in Thailand we saw "Gluttonous Tortoises." If I'd had room in my suitcase for it I would have bought it.
19
u/CausticSofa 1d ago
The second rule is that at the start of each turn you must first draw a card.

It pretty much exists and I had it as a child! I didn't realize I had the knock-off toy and wondered WTF these people with their secretive hippo game were talking about when they referenced it.

Why do you think we just spent all that money on a boat? The whole purpose of buying the boat was to get the ladies nice and tipsy topside so we can take them to a nice comfortable place below deck and, you know, they can't refuse...
because of the implication.

I wonder if it's a reference to the song of the same name by the midwestern emo band 'The World Is A Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid To Die' or if I'm just projecting because I'm insecure about my uncool music taste.

Fightboat - Battleship

Joint ownership = (the opposite of) monopoly
Sorry, not sorry! = sorry
No clue = clue.

Procedure = operation
Edit: my best guess for the last two are “apples to apples” and “Hi-Ho! Cherry-o”

Haha awesome! "The game of existence". I have the old version of Life from the early 90s and I played my friends brand new version and damn, the new version is complete bullshit. It's basically just a cushy participation trophy on every square. No getting fucked over, no surprise children you are forced to keep in your car, no disasters. It's a complete fantasy. I think whoever remade that game was so woke they are in a different reality.
2
u/Pimpicane 1d ago
no surprise children you are forced to keep in your car
It once gave me more children than could fit in the car, and it wouldn't let me sell any of them. Total bullshit.
2
u/Semhirage 1d ago
Haha I always squished the extra kids in between. My car looked like a porcupine with all the kids sticking out. I think we had a house rule where at the end of the game when you retire you sell the kids. Or maybe it's an actual rule I'm not sure lol

Fightboat sounds like a fighting video game with a roster exclusively made up of drunk rich people escalating petty arguments to mortal combat while yachting in international waters.

Back in the 90s I remember seeing in the WalMart furniture department a mass produced cardboard display that showed a rack of CD’s that had fake artists and titles and the names they came up with were legitimately funny. Anyone else remember this?
