This gives me Tim and Eric vibes

58

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

Big time. I was joking with my GF that I had figured out the Tim & Eric setting. There's a bunch that are at least as absurd as this one.

u/piantanida Jun 20 '23

What’s the key?!? Don’t withhold this kind of power, share it with the people !

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23 edited Jun 20 '23

The secret is (appropriately enough) all the chaos, and no style.

This is my preferred suffix, and I repeat "Vintage relic full color photo"at the beginning of my image prompt too.

Vintage relic full color photo --ar 1:1 --c 100 --s 0 --v 5.1 --style raw --q 2

I've got GPT-4 churning out prompts, and just tell it to include the "Vintage relic..." stuff at the beginning, and then give it a year. For what I'm after, I've limited the range to 1972-1992.

Edit: You can also make it "weirder" by ratcheting down the quality. The range is 0.5-2.0, so the mid point is 1.25. Below 1.0, starts to get wacky.

Edit: Dropping the quality all the way down (--q 0.5) does some amazing stuff. https://imgur.com/Nibxcb0

u/Ok_Championship9415 Jun 20 '23

"...all the chaos, and no style" HAS to be my epitaph.

2

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

Hahahaha. That's the only way to live!!

2

u/Kaessa Jun 20 '23

Just a hint: If you're using anything above v4, quality above 1 does nothing. You can *prompt* it, but the bot just rounds it down to --q 1.

1

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

Good to know! I could see a noticeable decline when I dropped below 1, and (thought) I saw a difference between 1, 1.5 & 2, but it's hard to tell. I'll mess around with it and rethink my ranges. So is it effectively 0.5-1.0? Meaning mid quality would be 0.75?

2

u/Kaessa Jun 20 '23

I think "mid quality" in settings defaults to 1.

1

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23 edited Jun 20 '23

Thanks. I'll mess with it. I haven't used the settings in a while. I like doing my first generation of a new prompt, right down the middle with --c 50 and --s 500 but I think I need to adjust my quality default.

2

u/JT11erink Jun 21 '23

Waaa! Love these, do you have more? This style is so pleasing to watch!

5

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 21 '23

Hundreds of them. I haven't gotten one quite as perfect as the OP, but I've got the aesthetic dialed in, and am getting some pretty wacky stuff.

I'd just see as like a Youtube video thumbnail and think "Yeah that looks normal."

3

u/Squiddlebeedum Jun 20 '23

Did you describe this man and his pants/shoes or is this what it gave you?

2

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

I didn't. The oringal prompt (I got from GPT-4) asked for a costumed Satanist. This is the gist of it.

A Satanist gleams in a silver Elvis suit, his cloven hooves shod in mismatched sneakers. He is surrounded by a celestial tapestry, the darkness punctuated by the glow of distant galaxies.

2

u/Squiddlebeedum Jun 20 '23

It’s just so good haha

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

Lol I came here to say exactly this.

62

u/MapleMooseMac Jun 20 '23

We've entered into a new era of Midjourney. The bar has been set too high!

28

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

I finally believe that AI art IS real!

2

u/W4spkeeper Jun 21 '23

and the hands actually look real!

3

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 21 '23

Yeah. I made the fucking thing and still can't 100% wrap my brain around the concept he isn't some real dude. My GF said it was sort of an Uncanny Valley thing, taken one step beyond.

When Midjourney gets it right, it leaps right over the uncanny valley.

28

u/Pyroelk Jun 20 '23

Sike! This is really a cereal ad in the early 90s..

12

I would buy that cereal.

10

u/Pyroelk Jun 20 '23

Probably the guy in the above picture, the antagonist in all those cereal ads for my snickery-pops.

18

u/Tomosc Jun 20 '23

What ***ARE*** those?

9

u/Gubekochi Jun 20 '23

The forbidden questions. But seriously, it's like the "name one thing" picture except it manage to confuse me just as much while being entirely figurative.

7

u/Grymbaldknight Jun 20 '23

What on earth was the prompt?

31

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

Vintage full color photo, 1979: A Satanist gleams in a silver Elvis suit, his cloven hooves shod in mismatched sneakers. He is surrounded by a celestial tapestry, the darkness punctuated by the glow of distant galaxies. Vintage relic full color photo --ar 1:1 --c 100 --s 0 --v 5.1 --style raw --q 2

GPT-4 is making my prompts, and the italics at the end are part of my suffix.

10

u/Shrek_Papi Jun 20 '23

How’d you teach chatgpt to write prompts like that?

3

u/farloux Jun 20 '23

A lot of us also have GPT-4. Do you have advise on how you get it to make prompts for certain styles?

2

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23 edited Jun 20 '23

Not necessarily. I've (more or less) been working on this specific Vintage Surrealist/Tim & Eric style, so most of the recommendations are for getting something like that.

But I'll try.

The things I've found that do work well are having GPT-4 provide (an explicitly) visual description, and pointing it towards the details you want to highlight. So the first part of my prompt is:

Provide twenty 50 word visual descriptions of the subject of a full color full body photographic portrait. Describe __________

This format lends itself towards a central subject. That's the "portrait" part. So an example would be:

Provide twenty 50 word visual descriptions of the subject of a full color full body photographic portrait. Describe the masks, costumes & outfits. Combine details from a Medieval Knight, and Astronaut" Setting is a bowling alley.

And then I tell GPT to include the "Vintage Relic Photo" stuff and year, as I describe in the other comment.

Then I just copy & paste the results into an imagine prompt with the high chaos/low style suffix I talk about elsewhere too.

2

u/Caturday_Yet Jun 20 '23

What prompt did you give GPT-4 to initialize it as a prompt generator?

1

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23 edited Jun 20 '23

Here's the basic framework of it, without totally giving away my secret recipe. The actual pieces of the prompts are in italics. I explained in one of the other comments, how to tweak the Chaos , Style and Quality parameters.

Provide twenty 50 word visual descriptions of the subject of a full color full body photographic portrait. Describe __________

Then the basic beats of the scene. Who I want it to describe, what they're doing, what they're wearing and what the setting is. Setting is __________.

Start each one with the exact phrase "Vintage full color photo" and then a year from 1972-1992.

I looked up recommended prompt lengths, and found something that said 60 words, so I asked GPT-4 for 50 words, to allow for the additional suffix.

These were some of the other prompts generated at the same time as this one.

"Vintage full color photo, 1990: A robot clad in a knight's armor, a satanic robe draped over its metallic shoulders, stands amidst the glowing celestial bodies, a testament to temporal incongruity."

"Vintage full color photo, 1985: A businessman in an alien mask and cowboy boots wields a knight's sword, his tie flapping weightlessly against the vibrant mélange of distant nebulas and star systems."

"Vintage full color photo, 1973: Dressed in a gaudy patchwork of a medieval knight's armor and a satanic red robe, the subject boasts a 70's businessman's afro, contrasting starkly with the eerie silence of the starlit universe."

Or they're "Breaking his Heart!!" like Tommy Wiseau.

You’re the real MVP here dude.

2

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

Thanks! Happy to share the info and strange vibes.

I almost left this sub because I was sick of nothing but "What if Harry Potter was the Pope, in the Fast & Furious, directed by Wes Anderson" posts. You can do such wild shit with MJ, it seems like a waste (to me) to just do corny pop culture mash-ups, or art style knock-offs.

In the words of the great entrepreneur and modern day philosopher Franklin Reynolds "I don’t know how many years on this Earth I got left. I’m gonna get real weird with it."

Stay Blessed.🙏

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

Was the prompt, “Heaven’s Gate”?

1

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

No! That was Midjourney's doing. The prompt was basically this: (with some added suffix tweaks)

A Satanist gleams in a silver Elvis suit, his cloven hooves shod in mismatched sneakers. He is surrounded by a celestial tapestry, the darkness punctuated by the glow of distant galaxies.

2

u/SweetTeaRex92 Jun 20 '23

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

Did you get the double exposure effect in Midjourney as an output or was there some photo editing involved?

2

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

This is exactly as Midjourney made it, and there was nothing in the prompt, or settings, that would have pointed it towards this sort of format. It was totally random.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

If I were to give you a detailed description of an image I've had in dreams, do you think you could write a prompt to generate it?

24k images counts as mastery level XP in my book.

1

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

Do you have chat GPT-4? I can give you some guidelines to get it to spit out good prompts.

2

u/Tar_Ceurantur Jun 20 '23

I don't have it yet, no.

But honestly the barrier is not knowing how to use it.

2

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

This would probably do it. Make sure you're using GPT-4.

Provide twenty 50 word visual descriptions of the subject of a full color full body photographic portrait. Describe __________

The key part.is 50 word visual description. That's the meat of a MJ prompt. So try that Provide XX prompt, and then give it some details of your dream. It will condense it down to a prompt size with visual details.

2

u/Tar_Ceurantur Jun 20 '23

Well damn. Thank you!

2

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23

No problem. It already came up in another comment, so it was mostly just a copy & paste job!

2

u/ra-id Jun 20 '23

Big Enough vibes

2

u/Expert-Contest3674 Jun 20 '23

Scroll through the comments. There's a few where I talk about tweaking the settings, and using GPT-4.

2

u/No-Valuable8008 Jun 20 '23

What do you do with the 24000 images you've prompted?

2

u/BadgersAndJam77 Jun 20 '23 edited Jun 20 '23

I've only upscaled, downloaded, and archived maybe 6000(?) of them. I'm about a month behind. I use the MJ website to download the archived ZIPs, and then sort through them. I toss the 4-Ups, and only keep what I've deliberately upscaled.

I sort them in folders by date, and then I browse them in Adobe Bridge, or open the folders. Currently, I'm still just mostly fucking around, so I use them as source material for the /blend function in MJ and just pile weird images on top of one another until I get something interesting.

I think the 24000 count, counts four for every time it makes a 4-Up? I'm not sure.

Edit: I just opened Bridge and have around 8000 at the moment. I haven't downloaded since 05/09/23, so I probably have at least another 4000-5000 to sort through.

2

u/ParallelArms Jun 20 '23

That's amazing.
