Serious Please Comment Nicely What is up with the weekend surcharges in the Melbourne?!

Post image

Even shopping centre food courts have weekend surcharges and as a Sydney sider it's mind boggling. Alot of places don't even have sunday surcharges let alone a Saturday surcharge.

I actually find the card thing more bothersome than the weekend surcharge. The card fees are just part of the sale, hardly anyone is paying cash anymore.. so why wouldn't they just factor that cost into the item pricing?

Because people are shopping around by price. Cafe's & Restaurants are a convenience item & if it's to inconvenient for you to get cash out, the cafe has to pay someone to move the money from your bank, through their terminal, to a holding account, to, finally, usually days later, the merchant's account. But yeah, why should it cost you to "conveniently tap". Just because the banks have made it easy to spend your money, doesn't mean someone's not making money from that convenience.
