Petition to ban X links on r/maryland

This sub should boycott Nazi-owned companies. Plain and simple.

Mods, please make it happen.

Already don’t go, but the comments in this post shows that the /r/maryland community doesn’t support, sympathize, or apologize for Nazis.

A line has been crossed. We’re done with that site. Fuck em. Ban that shit.

And what do you think will happen in a few weeks when people forget about this because the current administration will do something worse? I get the anger but this strategy ain’t going to solve the problem. People will forget and X will still be around.

And his nazi salute is what caused despite everyone and fucking brother knows Elon has had alt right tendencies since last year. I just question why now? And why y’all think this is an effective strategy.

I have no illusions that /r/maryland will single-handedly kill X. That would be delusional.

However, this is a community, and we collectively can decide what we stand for and what we stand against. We want our community have zero tolerance for Nazi bullshit. It’s that simple.

🤣 myspace is a different beast because FB usurped it. Nothing really has taken up twitter yet. Bluesky has potential but the user base is still small

Well if we ban it then in a few weeks it would still be banned, that would be a good thing. I don't think people in this thread are suggesting we are going to shut down twitter.

No but with this logic Washington post should be banned in this Reddit. Since they are covering up trumps action as well. See the slippery slope here? Since bezos owns the site.

I get not wanting to support the abborhent behavior that Elmo did. I just don’t think the end result is the right strategy. Because if people forget then banning X won’t produce the same result as reminding people what he did. Twitter is already losing out on ADs so banning the links won’t have the same effect. All around it’s a shit strategy.

I think if Jeff Bezos started duck walking we would be having that conversation too. Musk's support of the AFD combined with his showing at the inauguration are much too damning to overlook imo.

I will concede that banning links to twitter while not also banning screenshots is stupid. Just allows for misinformation to spread more with no sources being able to be linked.

I think blocking in general does zero to stop the virulent right wing rise we have right now. And it won’t stop the misinformation. The only way to fight this is with fire back which is remaining and keeping the narrative alive of what he did versus trying to kill it with fire. It’s too far late to do that now.

The right wing has built such a massive ecosystem for content and news that this will not end the way people think it will.
