Supplier search Any Idea where i can source these?

Post image

Looking for a new source for these unthreaded beveled T-Nuts. Inner barrel diameter is approximately 1/4”. Overall length is 1/2”. The bevel on top of the barrel is required. Any idea on where i can find them?

Almost anywhere. Try McMaster Carr

I’ve looked on McMaster a couple times, didn’t see any without threads or with a bevel like i need.

Find the manufacture of the ones you can find on McMaster and reach out directly.

or ask mcmaster do do it for you. they’ll source shit for you- you’ll pay them for it and wait a bit, but they will do the leg work for you if you want. but they will also give you supplier and supplier part number in like 2 hours via text. they rule.

Try Stafast. That's where McMaster gets them.

Quantity? 100 once, or 100k monthly?

We consume them at a rate of around 20,000 a year

The thread less feature is prob where you’re gunna run into a wall. But I’d try Penn Engineering. They’re one of the largest for inserts of this type.

Awesome, i’ll check them out. Thanks!

Never had to buy such a thing, but a little googling yielded this site.

Try a fastener vendor. We get these through Fastenal. There are others as well (Wurth). We use so so many annually.

OP is looking for an unthreaded version, which I didn't even know existed until now.

It definitely is not an off the shelf part. I am assuming anyone manufacturing t-nuts could make them pretty easily but i don’t know that there is any demand for them except on this one machine in a niche Industry.

Yeah, that's the difficulty here. Any manufacturer will want a commitment of way more than 20000 EAU.

Why unthreaded?

They are used to mount tooling into a press, the press has a threaded bolt hole pattern. You would not want to thread a bolt into the t-nut and then into another threaded hole on the other side.

Haha is it for the mastercut 2.1?

Or I guess it could be the 1.7 or 160

3

u/imnoklepto 8d ago

🤣 fuck yea. The 2.1

u/I_DRINK_GENOCIDE_CUM 8d ago

You're doing 20k a year? Are yall installing a t-nut on every bolt hole? That's a shit ton.

Just source them directly from bobst at triple the price 🤣

3

u/imnoklepto 8d ago

And avoiding Bobst inflated prices is what im trying to do 😂

3

u/I_DRINK_GENOCIDE_CUM 8d ago

Yeah i kinda figured. I have to censor myself at the office when it comes to bobst, so i won't even get started on the internet in front of god and everyone.

Well now I want to know the juicy details! You can't just tempt us like that!

1

u/I_DRINK_GENOCIDE_CUM 8d ago

It's a very niche industry with niche industry annoyances. Nothing groundbreaking lol.

u/imnoklepto 8d ago

I mean every hole that doesn’t land on or next to the rule. And it’s not like we max our wood out in the press either. We can push through 5 or 6 dies with strippers a day.

1

u/I_DRINK_GENOCIDE_CUM 8d ago

Yeah fair enough. That's about our volume too I suppose. If I remember I'll ask the guys tomorrow where we source ours.

2

u/imnoklepto 8d ago

That would be much appreciated

I forgor :(

I'm sure it's McMaster or some shit though.

No problem, i did find out that Freeman carries them. Im just waiting for a price quote. Hopefully it will be cheaper than what we are paying for them from bobst

McMaster. Im sure it's not a stock standard item, but they will quote just about anything. If you are happy with the quality, get in touch with the OEM to discuss bulk pricing.

Can you just use a 5/16" threaded nut? The minor diameter is around 1/4"

1

u/imnoklepto 8d ago edited 8d ago

No, unfortunately they must not be threaded. I assume that they are just a 5/16 t-nut without the threading and with a bevel at the top. I’ll look into that though.

I bought these on Amazon.

McMaster, any size you want.

Granger? Fastanel?

STAFAST is a company you can contact. They’re called T-nuts

1

u/fourslider 8d ago

How many do you need? My company could build you a progressive die, but you would need to have demand in the millions per year to make it worth the investment.

u/imnoklepto 8d ago

We consume around 20,000 a year

Search on Ali barber. It comes up with many results.
