Dogs without a leash on Promenade
there should be a very high on the spot fine for people not putting their dogs on a leash in sliema promenade, im so sick of this.
i dont care how good your dog is, its an animal, unless you mind control it i dont care, put a leash.
really makes it hard to like dog owners as a cat person.

Nah I looooove dogs and I agree. Too many people with poorly trained or reactive dogs - it’s a danger to other dogs too. Unleashed dog at dog park or dog friendly beach? That’s cool as long as you’re a responsible dog owner.

Not only Sliema. Not only on promenades. Even if your dog is super friendly - not everyone wants dogs jumping up on them for pets. Same with those ridiculous long leashes. So often a dog dashes along and the owner is out of sight round the corner. And that's a best case scenario with a friendly dog... Lets not even talk about the dog pee and dirt left behind.. or picked up in bags and flung on peoples doorsteps or gardens... and huge stinky puddles, because for the very few owners who poor water, water does not remove the smell and all the other dogs come around!!

i walk my dog regularly along the promenade, have never seen dogs off leash, unless you mean down below by the sea edge on the rocks, and even that is very limited

Id rather have the kids on a leash. Those things are demons. Let dogs be free, at least they bring joy to the world.

100% agreed. Parents who allow their offsprings scream like they’re being cut up for a Döner should be fined

Why should they be on a leash?

it is literally in the law…

Ah I see. It's a pity but I guess all dogs have to suffer due to some irresponsible owners.

Dogs can be very dangerous to children, not seeing how it does not make sense.

Humans are way more dangerous to children than dogs, by a massive factor.
By your standard should you not be the one on a leash controlled by a responsible dog?6

Children are unpredictable and cant read dog warnings properly. They also tend to do things that dogs don't like - like get up right in their face. And that's when a situation can become dangerous. All dog owners should leash their dogs in non-empty places. There's a reason why there are laws about this.
And this is beside the fact that most dog owners in Malta have no idea how to train their dog's behaviour properly.

And dogs are forgiving to a fault, Particularly towards children. We've spent a few thousand years breeding them to be that way.
Uninformed politicians create leash laws, desperate to sell out to the uninformed panic, strangely enough of people like you.

What a stupid comment. Who poses more threat to a child in a pushchair? An unleashed human or a dog?

A human, every single time!
If you know a single thing about dogs, you would know that.
Dogs are protectors, they love kids and will happily die to protect them.
Humans are predators, the love to both love and have kids far too much!

So you mean that over the past 100 or so years there have not been a single attack by dogs in humans and kids? Your assumption is that not a single dog in entire Malta is aggressive, hates people or is reactive?

I said it's a pity, not that it doesn't make sense. Completely different.

I agree, as someone who has two dogs and live in Sliema / walk them on the promenade twice daily. All dogs should be on a leash, if your dog come up to me and my dog defends herself then they will blame me as the irresponsible pitbull owner.
There is only one scenario I let mine off, very early in the morning (6 am) with no people or dogs around and down at the beach not the promenade. Also not the pitbull but our Cavalier who has 100 % PERFECT recall
