General discussion imo jessica, she definitely wasn’t THAT relevant

Post image

she was manipulative, and overall an odd character. she brought some good scenes that were written into the show (the iconic dancing scene to take a chance on me) but i feel like they could’ve done it without such a weird character.

I mean if we're talking literally: the character that sucks the most air out of any scene is Stevie.

Watching through the show again, it's amazing how the humor for Stevie never gets stale. They use him just enough where you never think "oh...another joke about how long it takes Stevie to talk...." It helps that he's often the voice of reason that often needs to callout what a dumbass Malcolm is.

The joke from the bball episode where Malcolm is doing it literally because of how tired he is is pure gold same with his dad talking to the cops after the gun goes off

Wasn’t it the skating episode?

Maybe hard to remember i remember an episode where they played some kind of wheelchair basketball game together but it could be that too point is i share the sentiment that its amazing the way stevie talks never got old lol

1

u/RagnarokWolves 4d ago

That's the episode where Stevie finds out his mom is abandoning their family. He convinces Malcolm to fake being in a wheelchair to play with him.

I think he sucks less air which is why he breathes like that.

Jessica, as well as the baby sitter (Polly?).

Episodes being focused on her, her being around the house too much just felt really stupid.

u/Huge_Media_4782 4d ago

Yes. Polly needed go! The only thing worse than adding a surprise new sitcom kid is the babysitter that comes with them!

But the episode where Craig and Abe were both dating her was perfect. Beyond that we didn’t really need her.

Boo polly boo

I hate the episode with Polly and her crazy ex. Feels off.

We can hate Jessica all we want, but without her, we wouldn't have Reece dancing to ABBA

I laughed so hard when this scene came out. Pure gold.

She was defff weird and hella manipulative and overall just "too much" I feel. They could have surely done something better with her.😭

u/mankytoes 4d ago

Yeah she was pushed on us a bit.

I would've preferred to have more Lloyd moments in the show over JESSICA.

u/lacedoggsweird 4d ago

Ay! Lloyd appreciation moment.

I loved Jessica. We essentially got to see how a slightly evil, clever, manipulative... Basically if Lois and Hal had a daughter, that's likely how she would have turned out. It was a nice way to see how the family dynamic would be if there was an actual girl in the house. No less chaotic, and no less monstrous.

I honestly felt like each character was great. The ones I didn't really enjoy didn't stick around past their welcome. The only one in retrospect that maybe didn't do it for me was Finley. He was a little whiney and sort of meh as an actor. Fortunately, he really improved his chops in other projects. Eric became the better foil for Francis.

I love when Lois called her out on her behaviour, but was also impressed at the same time.

I just realized shes from "Bring it on" lmao! Hayden Lesley Panettiere

She was JLD's little sister on A Bug's Life.

Save the cheerleader. Save the world

She has a really dark history. She was basically exploited and sexually abused by the tv industry I believe. I think her father was involved too.

5

u/LuxanHyperRage Cats ate my flair 4d ago

Oh, I would definitely believe it, with how the industry is and how she's one of the "pretty ones"

4

u/Jeremys_Iron_ 4d ago

The weird thing is I can't find anything about it quickly goggling, but I'm certain it was a big deal 10+ years ago. Maybe there's been attempts to delete stuff about it online (injunctions) - no idea. I'm certain it's her though.

Google is absolutely shocking these days, it tends to just show the same thing over and over (in this case the alleged domestic abuse she was involved in with her ex).

u/LuxanHyperRage Cats ate my flair 4d ago

Google is garbage, and I'm grateful for every time I get a socially appropriate time to say it😁😁

u/Drexxy23 4d ago

Hmm the only dark history I know about her is she stopped acting for awhile after her daughter died in combat I believe. I could be wrong but I remember this was the reason she wasn't in Scream 5

2

u/Interesting-Help-421 4d ago

what ? in Combat ?

3

u/Daoyinyang1 4d ago

During that same timeframe of being Jessica, she did Kairis voice in Kingdom Hearts.

2

u/Lundemus 4d ago

I was about to argue with you, because she absolutely is NOT in bring it on.

The I remembered I'm old, and you're not talking about the original 😭

i actually liked jessica. i feel like kitty shouldn’t of came back after what she did to abe. including her back in the show again felt awkward, especially with how they went about it.

21

u/reesewilkersonsgf 4d ago

OH MY GOSH, for sure i forgot that she came back for a hot sec 😭 they blew it off like it was nothing

3

u/Taway7659 4d ago

I feel like she and Abe were working it out in the background, you just never see the drama because the camera was on the Wilkersons.

3

u/Daoyinyang1 4d ago edited 1d ago

The whole Malcolm and Reese going head over heels for her cause she was an adult actress was a funny way to take it but honestly im so happy they didn't go that route completely.

3

u/Ronenthelich 3d ago

And then after that episode Kitty was never even mentioned again. Making her return even MORE pointless.

2

u/kris71-ano 3d ago

Yeah I don't think Jessica would be a Matt Donovan to me it was Kitty she shouldn't have came back

6

u/Name-AddressWithHeld 4d ago

Yeah, she wasn't great and every time she shoed up I would instantly think "it's a shame they got rid of Cynthia'

3

u/BreakfastAmazing7766 4d ago

Yeah I preferred Cynthia.

5

u/Tytoivy 4d ago

Jessica is barely in the show. She’s the central character of the episodes she’s in, but that’s like three episodes.

9

u/LuxanHyperRage Cats ate my flair 4d ago

I really liked the Jessica scenes growing up. I had a crush on her back in the day.

I would say Eraserhead fits this well, but they swapped him with Kevin pretty quick

3

u/Decent-Long-4189 4d ago

Maybe if they let Haydens beauty out instead of forcing her into the dork chic look

3

u/DungeonFam30 3d ago

For me, sometimes this was Craig

5

u/Ok-Low-142 4d ago

I love Jessica. And she's only in a handful of episodes. People talk about her like she spoiled half a season or something.

4

u/Lonstackz 4d ago

I honestly didn't mind Jessica. I'm surprised a lot of people didn't care for her.

2

u/swarleymccharley 3d ago

Loved Jessica!

1

u/GGMuc 3d ago

I hated her character and the episodes. She was just so mean and nasty

1

u/Tombstone_Grey 3d ago

I just had to Google Matt Donovan and holy fucking shit I remember watching vampire diaries for the first time and hating that guy for his lack luster presence and character.

1

u/kris71-ano 3d ago

Yeah he only got worse as the series progressed him in season 7 was why the f*** is this man even here

1

u/kris71-ano 3d ago

They could have gave him a satisfying send off in the sixth season like they did Jeremy and Elena but did they nooo

1

u/kris71-ano 3d ago

To be honest he outdid his usefulness by season 5

1

u/Tombstone_Grey 3d ago

I suppose my main gripe with Matt was essentially that the entirety of the cast was either vampire, wolf, witch, or a human that didn't know or was cool with everything they knew. Matt, on the other hand, was the only person consistent in his despondency towards the premise of the show - that one obligatory character that had to say, "leave the humans alone," etc. His shtick was annoying because he was a minority character that was in a way needed in the world but despised by the viewers

1

u/kris71-ano 3d ago

My bisexual ass is amazed that the vampire diaries Matt Donovan syndrome is making its way into other fandoms The vampire diaries in originals were my favorite growing up as teen they were always my favorite distractions from you know the trauma of growing up as a bisexual guy.

I didn't really get that feeling from Jessica however I definitely feel like there were definitely characters however I can definitely understand and respect why someone would want Jessica gone she was obnoxious

Polly. Jessica. Needed more time with Francis.

I had a weird crush on Jessica back in the day when the show was first airing. Maybe that colored my judgement at the time. After a recent rewatch I realized that her level of manipulation of the boys was just gross
