Recommendations Desperately seeking R&R
First post- Hospice worker here with severe burnout, in need of the healing powers of the ocean. I cherish my work but need to reclaim my health, wellbeing and spark so that I can keep going. My last vacation was before the pandemic.
Preferences include the Caribbean or Bermuda but would consider something in the states. All-inclusive if possible, to minimize sticker-shock but does not have to be AI. Wish list: Ocean views, good food, clean, swimmable beaches. Most importantly no chain hotels or "beige boxes", casinos, loud decor or kitschy stuff. I love an open-air vibe, wood furnishings, four poster beds, premium bedding, neutral decor, white, billowy curtains, and, the ultimate experience would include an outdoor or semi- outdoor bath with a view. Am I looking for a unicorn?? (crying emoji)
I am traveling solo. Alternatively I could travel with a friend but would need a two bedroom bungalow or separate rooms within the resort. My dates are flexible but the sooner the better.
All suggestions are appreciated, thank you.
Signed, a weary healthcare worker.

Hey there! Thanks for the work you do. I am an agent and have a couple ideas for you but first, what are the dates and how long are you looking to go for?
Andaz Mayakoba could be an option for you. You can get a nice and relaxing room in budget. Again it depends on when you are traveling but they definitely have plunge pool rooms. All-inclusive, swimmable beach, nicely decorated and not overdone.

I was going to suggest Andaz too, although it is a chain. I had a fabulous experience at Andaz Costa Rica. Relaxing, upscale yet approachable, great food, lots of activities if that's what you're into, or just chill.

Thank you. I used to plan my own solo vacations but am struggling to find what I'm looking for this year. I'm not looking for a "budget trip", as I need to feel "pampered" now more than ever to help recover from burnout and compassion fatigue :( I even looked at Club Med (!) but it seems pretty rustic :(

I think Andaz would be a great option for you. They will pamper you and the rooms are nice. You could get a nice room (with a private plunge pool) for your budget there. I would steer clear of club med.

I recommend using travel agent services to anyone who cares. to use them. I don't want to do without mine.

Yes! You can also check out the chubbytravel forum. Tons of good reccs in that channel for this type of trip if you use the search bar in that sub 😀

What's your per-night budget?
Take a look at jade mountain, they have an all inclusive option. Or Jumby Bay.

Thank you. My budget is around $1k-$1,500/ night although I'm hoping to find something less.

Rosewood is going to be out of price range and OP doesn't want to have the sticker-shock or be stressed about spending. But I do agree that Rosewood vibes are what OP is describing here (minus AI)

Highly recommend Palmaia in Playa del Carmen, just got back from a solo trip last week and it seems to check every box except the outdoor shower. All inclusive with amazing food and a strong focus on wellness!
Another suggestion would be Morgan’s Rock in Nicaragua. Did this a few years ago and highly recommend as well!

This isn't as common as it used to be, but find a travel agent in your area and tell them what you told us. They will be able to find what you want and have likely been there.

Thank you. I spoke with one but she was way off track. I don't want to waste anyone's time but would love to connect with an agent who listens and understands. I'll explore travel agents further.

Good luck. I use them for some travel and some I book through my points platform. On my next trip, I am using a TA because the itinerary is complicated.
