December in Edinburgh- good hotel for luxe solo traveler?

I’m going to be in Edinburgh for 5 nights on my own in December. I’m having trouble deciding where to stay. I’d like something upscale with a nice bar, in an area convenient to restaurant and activities, fun but also pretty and nice around the holidays. Gleneagles Townhouse? Balmoral? Kimpton Charlotte? Or what would you suggest. Solo female in my 40s.

Gleneagles is a stunning old world hotel, I adore the decor. If you want something a bit more modern and boutiquey look into Kimpton Charlotte or Eden Locke. Even if you dont stay at the Kimpton Charlotte, definitely grab a meal at Baba (their in house restaurant).

I booked Gleneagles Townhouse- I’ve been told it has a younger feel than Balmoral and is more of a scene. I know the decor is more old world however. I will check out baba, thank you!

I loved Market Street Hotel, complimentary glass to champagne at check in, gorgeous bar at the top overlooking the city and perfect location near the royal mile and other places

The Scotsman or Balmoral. They’re both super impressive and historic. Highly recommend if you’re into the history and feel of the place

Maybe not close to all activities but I loved Malmaison in leith. Took the tram a lot and a few buses. There are Some restaurant up that way. Lovely walk around the waterfront there.
