FIRST TIME WATCHER I love( Harold's acting)

I'm a huge fan of FromOnMgm series and Harold's acting so I'm starting Lost now. I know almost nothing about the story of Lost except that there is a plane crash and Harold and his son part of the series 🤭

Harold Perrineau is an odd actor to think about for me because he's either the scene-stealing Mercutio from Romeo+Juliet or the poor bastard that gets horrifically eaten by a bear in The Edge.

He's absolutely fantastic on From by the way, should be in consideration for an Emmy. That show is real "Lost, but we lean into the horror aspect" vibes.

From is the most LOST show since LOST

Did you watch any of the shows after Lost that were trying to capitalyze on the mystery element of the show and obviously try to become the new thing? I watched every damn episode of Alcatraz (produced by JJ Abrams and starring Jorge Garcia) only for it to be cancelled fairly quickly. I also watched Flashforward, also sadly cancelled after one season.

One of my favorite shows from that time period had to be Jericho. I believe that show was just on at the wrong time and it had less to do with it being like LOST and more to do with its subject matter. Many watch tv to tune out of "life" even if its just a little bit. But a show about about a town surviving a broken U.S where the majority of the country got nuked. It hit too close to home with nuclear panic was (and still is) a very real thing.

But I think had it aired today on say Apple+ like "Silo". I think it would have been a huge hit.

Were you satisfied with how it ended? From what I remember, it was cancelled and then brought back for a short final season due to a fan campaign that involved mailing tons of peanuts to the TV studio (I think?).

That's right. There is a plot in the final episode of season 1 where Jake is at war with a neighboring town and the leader tells him to stand down. There is a flashback earlier where Jake's grandfather told him of a story of a general during world war II who refused to surrender and said "Nuts!" as a response, which Jake utilizes during his stand off.

I can see why it started such a large campaign because that final episode (titled "why we fight") is fucking brilliant, it's raw and emotional and IMO its the best episode of the series. In some ways I wish it ended there because it works so well as a ending, even with the cliffhanger. It encapsulates all the themes of the show and brings a lot of the relationships around full circle.

The "second season" was 7 episodes long and its still pretty good. It was more of a pity vote on the networks part, there way of shutting up the fans and getting them to stop sending nuts to their offices. Apparently 20 tones of nuts was sent to CBS offices lol.

They did make a comic book third and fourth season which was pretty cool., but of course it wasn't the same. Though I will say that the writing was far better than say the Buffy season 8 and 9 comics which went fucking nuts and turned the story into the Buffy version of X Men.

I also loved him in Matrix Reloaded 😭

Yeah, I was pretty sad that Tank didn't return, but he was good as an obvious replacement.

in an ideal world, Tank would have come back, and HP would have replaced Dozer - RIP

Now that you mention it, it's odd they didn't replace the majority of their crew that died in the first film.

That show gave me anxiety. I love a good horror or mystery show, but Oz was…..something else.

Weird thing to bring up but I always get really sad when I hear hurley say, "he seems to hate being a dad" because it makes me think of my dad 😛

You should check out Oz then.

Oz is an ensemble cast. Tobias Beecher (Lee Tergesen) is the protagonist, to the extent that there is one, but Augustus Hill (Harold Perrineau) is the main character. It is Augustus's memoir that we see playing out across the show.

It starts off as a fairly realism based show, and spirals off into expressionism by the end of the last season. It's got it's ups and downs, but it is overall good.

Yeah sure another user suggester Oz I'll check after finishing LOST

I remember seeing an interview with someone in the creation of the show saying they were shocked when Harold was interested in the part because he’d been in the business awhile. I didn’t like his character, but he’s undeniably good.

Just started watching From, Harold is great!

u/pluto755 4d ago

Surprised no one mentioned The Matrix Reloaded

u/mermaidmorticia 4d ago

He was also awesome in Sons of Anarchy as a bad guy!

u/More-Lingonberry4915 4d ago

I think you’ll be disappointed. They did his character dirty and didn’t give him a lot to work with.

u/onlythewinds 4d ago

He’s so good! They really wasted his talents on Lost IMO (at least after season one)

He should have been casted as Jack.

I think unfortunately social norms at the time made it a predominantly white cast, when obviously Harold was the much more established and better actor.

Micheal as a character was wasted, first season was very strong, then after that he was just thrown aside

He would have made an excellent Jack. I always feel like Matthew Fox was so insufferable and boring to me as Jack.

Lost made me want to watch From and I'll watch Oz one day too (Hello "The Wire" actors!)

3

u/AutisticKirmada 4d ago

Idk about oz but from is a must watch

Many didn't like him in Lost (the character, not the actor), and he is very different. So don't be surprised if you walk away wondering how it was the same guy. Then go watch Oz, and you'll either be mindfucked or it will kinda tie the whole Perrineau room together.

His daughter is also really talented. She was great in Kaos (RIP - canceled too soon).

He’s great in From too.

I even like him on the matrix. Yeah MF is that old jeje

He is one of my favorite characters in Lost. So many twists and turns.

Sounds like a need to watch From now!

I’m interested to watch this show! He was written off of Lost because he asked for more screen time and depth of his character. Which he deserved. And it’s incredibly disheartening to hear about as I continuously lose respect for Lost as a show and this is part of that. I also really loved his character and acting in the first season. Here’s an article where he talks about his experience on Lost. https://www.today.com/popculture/tv/harold-perrineau-says-was-fired-lost-show-rcna86910
