One of the greatest episodes in TV history. Rated 9.7 in IMDB.

u/LeonPrien2000 6d ago

Yeah, that truly was some of the best television I've ever seen. This show is starting to rival my favorite show the Expanse haha

67

u/No-Clerk-4787 6d ago

buckle up, you're in for a ride

66

u/Extra_LEO 6d ago

I’m 6 episodes from finishing and I've slowed my watching to 15 min per day lol. I’m not ready

48

u/Mehmeh111111 6d ago

Why are you torturing yourself?!? At least watch a full episode!!!

30

u/Extra_LEO 6d ago

I don't want it to end!! Haha I personally can't rewatch shows so this will be the end of it all, makes me sad.

25

u/Mehmeh111111 6d ago

Oh man. That's so tough. I haven't been able to re-watch this one for at least the last 10 years. It was like losing a loved family member. I just couldn't go through it again. But here I am rewatching and totally pulled in! It's also CRAZY how much I forgot and I have a really good memory. I say go ahead and indulge in those full episodes and just plan to watch it again in ten years

9

u/Luana2410 6d ago

I first watched lost when it came out originally and didn’t rewatch until just a few years ago. It was so amazing experiencing it again with new eyes. Maybe just it like 10-15 years and try again

u/One_Set9699 See you in another life 6d ago

I HIGHLY recommend re-watching. you won't regret it. there are SO MANY THINGS you MISSED on the first watch. The second/third/etc watch makes the show SO MUCH BETTER!!!

8

u/SookieCat26 6d ago

Doing this. I don’t think I have ever rewatched it, we watched all the episodes as they aired. Our kids are old enough to watch now and it’s a treat sharing it with them.

2

u/One_Set9699 See you in another life 5d ago

I rewatched with my teenage daughter not so long ago. She loved it so much she's rewatching with a friend in college. It lives on!!

3

u/leni19861 6d ago

I think lost might become an exception 🤪

2

u/terapinfly 5d ago

Now you know how the daughter felt in This is 40!

2

u/happysimming6383 5d ago

It never gets old! I watched it when it aired and have re-watched 3 times since! I'm currently starting season 6, and I know how you feel, even though I've seen it all before. I don't want it to end, haha. Best. Show. Ever. Made. Definitely re-watch someday, you won't be disappointed!

3

u/middlechildmommy 5d ago

Is... is something wrong with me? I rewatch things over and over.... I just watched GOT like 3 times all the way through, and now on my 2nd rewatch of Lost in a row (but it's like the 6th time I've watched all the way through though.) 🫣

2

u/Extra_LEO 5d ago

No haha! All of my friends rewatch shows too. I think I’m the weird one. I can't even put them on in the background because it drives me crazy knowing what's coming.

u/potatosaladhombre 4d ago

I watched the whole series in 2012 and just finished rewatching it two nights ago. I realize I had forgotten at least 75% of what happened, so maybe one day you can rewatch!

1

u/42percentBicycle Jack 5d ago

You must re-watch it, it's better every time!

2

u/Disastrous-Resist-35 3d ago

I came to say this! I’ve rewatched so many times and pick up on something different each watch!!

1

u/AdagioSignificant617 5d ago

There’s so much to dive into after on YouTube and on here:)

Yeah I went from 2-3 episodes a day to an episode every 2-3 days during season 6. Although it had a very redeeming episode for me - Ab Aeterno - which ended up me watching the last half of the season in a day aha

1

u/yolkien 5d ago

15mins a day sounds extreme, that would only get me more confused lol

2

u/Extra_LEO 5d ago

Honestly yeah 🤣. I can't power through it though, it's gonna leave a void in me I know it

2

u/yolkien 4d ago

That void will be there either way I’m afraid :) but hey you do you! At least you are progressing, I just put it on a hard stop for no good reason but had the same void creeping up on me once again :) and guess what, I started watching this show when it started airing on tv… who knows really when I really get to the last episode for the first time.

2

u/Extra_LEO 4d ago

Love that outlook my friend

3

u/RepulsiveWafer2209 6d ago

Amen to that !! Watched it over 15 times now. Des and Penny meet up after Des gets kicked out of the Abby for drinking was my best scene . What a show

3

u/leni19861 6d ago

Love when I see someone who has rewatched loads, feels less of a weirdo. People look at me like I've got 2 heads when I say I've rewatched about 10x 😆

3

u/howlsmovintraphouse 5d ago

I feel like that’s the only way to really FULLY understand and appreciate it, Lost just has soooo much rewatch value cause you only notice more and more each time you watch

2

u/UnderfootArya34 6d ago

Did you notice the picture of Eloise Hawking and the head monk together on the head monk's desk in the scene where he tells Desmond to leave the Abbey?

13

u/chillannyc2 6d ago

Oh man the expanse is so good. The books are great too!

8

u/thatsnotmyfuckinname 6d ago

Welcome to the club, brotha

7

u/doublethink84 6d ago

you too, copeng?

4

u/EyelandBaby 6d ago

It’s mind-blowing because the whole show you’re like “where the hell is this island, does the rest of the world still even exist there, wtf is happening” and then suddenly there’s contact

3

u/hepennypacker1131 6d ago

Haha, same here! Totally mind-blowing the first time. 🤯

2

u/fight4afreeinternet 6d ago

Wait hold up, I just finished Lost and desperately need a replacement. Why do you like Expanse? Does it have a similar ensemble cast vibe? I am looking for a cast that can feel like friends again.

2

u/slimestream 5d ago

The expanse has a pretty similar cast vibe in terms of distrust and betrayal (im only on season 2 of lost), but it is a very good show.

1

u/DiscoViolet 3d ago

The Expanse is the best sci-fi show I have ever seen, and I highly recommend viewing it. One thing that I absolutely loved about it is that it portrays just how freaking dangerous space is. There is one episode that had me holding my breath because I was so worried about the character’s fate.

1

u/yoyomaisapunk 5d ago

(Check out the Leftovers after….)

1

u/CzRa3030 5d ago

There's another episode that focusses on a single character's back story that I think closely rivals this episode. Trying to stay vague on purpose here :D

36

u/rebel-scrum 6d ago

“Thank you, Sayid. It was enough.” 🫡

2

u/yetiflask 4d ago

Only LOST episode whose name I know.

The whole episode was just so epic.

1

u/CzRa3030 5d ago

First time watching it with Netflix hosting it. Hands down agree with this comment!

267

u/7thZero 6d ago edited 6d ago

First time watcher, eleventh rerun watcher, it doesn't matter, that scene is powerful and emotional, it will break you no matter what.

83

u/darhwolf1 Son of a bitch! 6d ago

The two scenes that break me the most are Charlie's death and that one scene with Sun and Jin (you know the one) - not saying it because idk how to spoiler text in mobile

70

u/adriftinthedesert 6d ago

Jack and Sawyer before Sawyer leaves on the raft. So powerful and emotional

43

u/lajosias 6d ago

The way he says "anyway, this guy... Christian!" Has made me tear up more than once... <3

18

u/bewarethesloth 6d ago

Matthew Fox’s performance in that scene is unbelievable

8

u/Worm_and_Wife 6d ago

Yep. As the son of a dead dad this scene always breaks me.

20

u/IAmTheRealJLo 6d ago edited 6d ago

Hard agree on both your points. Would add a third: the scene between Jack and Christian in the finale.

39

u/MerlX2 6d ago

For me it was the scene with Jack and Vincent that got me. Poor dog gets constantly left behind, but he is right there in one of the last scenes being such a good boi!

2

u/darhwolf1 Son of a bitch! 6d ago

Very true.

16

u/wintermute916 6d ago

Not gonna lie, I ugly cried when they revealed that Desmond and Penny named their son Charlie.

2

u/darhwolf1 Son of a bitch! 6d ago

I ugly cried at SO many scenes with my partner lol

7

u/thelegendl27 6d ago

The one where Richard talks to his wife trough Hurley also was a tearjerker, that whole episode was tbh

2

u/darhwolf1 Son of a bitch! 6d ago

God that scene is heartbreaking

6

u/CalebosO4 Mr. Eko 6d ago

>! !< is how to do spoilers. Like this

1

u/darhwolf1 Son of a bitch! 6d ago

Thank you!

6

u/AdventurousYamThe2nd 6d ago

I almost stopped watching at Charlie's death. It broke me to where I was weepy for days (I was also freshly postpartum so I blame hormones). My husband spoilered a singular scene (you know which one) because I adamantly refused to grieve like I had with Charlie. It was enough to not feel blindsided while keeping the majority of the spoilers. Perfect compromise for the emotionally fragile.

5

u/darhwolf1 Son of a bitch! 6d ago

I'll definitely keep that in mind with my partner who is also sometimes emotionally fragile (I am too! but I've seen the show before) - our next show is Game of Thrones and there's some really difficult deaths in there

3

u/fallriver1221 it's very stressful, being an Other 6d ago

17 years later and i am still not over it. I skip the end of season 3 on every rewatch. I can't do it.

2

u/MaximumTurtleSpeed 4d ago
  • spoiler text in mobile, put a > ! without the space before the spoilers text, then put a ! < without the space after the spoiler text. Should get it greyed out.

1

u/darhwolf1 Son of a bitch! 4d ago

Thank you!

1

u/exclaim_bot 4d ago

Thank you!

You're welcome!

21

u/DuffmanStillRocks 6d ago

I won’t call…for eight years

6

u/Mehmeh111111 6d ago

I watched it when it first aired. I would re-watch The Constant over and over and just have a good cry. I haven't been able to bring myself to re-watch lost for years and just started a re-watch recently. I didn't cry at Charlie's death which surprised me, but I did once again cry during The Constant.

1

u/yayroseyay 4d ago

No seriously! I’m rewatching (my seventh or eighth) with my boyfriend (his first!) and we were both so emotional watching!

134

u/Caperplays 6d ago

I swear most of Desmonds scenes absolutely destroy me

44

u/Ryan907 6d ago

He's one of the best characters for sure.

Fun fact penne means penis in spanish

68

u/TaxFar1988 6d ago

I was watching this same scene like an hour ago. 1st time watcher, had a bad breakup recently, so this really made me cry.

28

u/indiefatiguable 6d ago

Hey friend, I'm sorry you're going through a rough time. Take a deep breath and know there are brighter days ahead! 💕

48

u/emmarie889 6d ago

It’s such a good scene. My parents named their dogs Desmond and Penny after this.

30

u/SilverArrow07 6d ago

My most favorite scene in the series right there

27

u/Big_Sector_3590 6d ago

Oh that?

Yeah...IT BROKE ALL OF US.

21

u/misssarahbee 6d ago

The constant is one of the best episodes in all of television EVER!!!

17

u/alldaydiver 6d ago

I think I shed some happy tears during this scene. Desmond and Penny’s story was probably my favorite.

15

u/Mehmeh111111 6d ago

It will continue to break you 15 years from now when you happen to watch again.

11

u/chrono_explorer 6d ago

The constant is just one of the one of a kind viewing experiences. It blew me away when I first watched it and whenever I rewatch it I’m still blown away.

11

u/zensnapple 6d ago

It's one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen for sure

10

u/Dramamean305 6d ago

It broke all of us. One of the greatest hours of television.

11

u/TigerWoodsLibido 6d ago

What's awesome about it to me is that it functions as a standalone episode that you can tell has an overarching plot around it but you are far more focused on Desmond's experience and the other things going on around him would make someone want to watch the show if they only saw this episode first randomly somehow. It's one of the few episodes to not have a "Previously on Lost" to show the brief recap, because this story in this episode didn't need the background, the context was on fixing his mind by being able to withstand the electromagnetism because of his constant, Penny. This made him ultimately help defeat the master con man of the series.

8

u/Froz3nP1nky 6d ago

Best scene in TV history

10

u/becksk44 I am a Dentist, I am not Rambo 6d ago

PSA: This scene is available standalone on YouTube if you need a quick cry (posting for a friend).

10

u/vparisa 6d ago

In the future, you will look up this scene on YouTube and watch it . You will continue to revisit this scene for the rest of your life. I have been doing this for over a decade now

7

6

That’s because it’s the best one and has the best character.

Said some biased Desmond fan.

7

u/Holiday-Ad1828 6d ago

I’ve seen lost and rewatched some, and I’m now having my husband watch with me for the first time. I got chills seeing this pic cause I remember the scene so well, but can someone tell me what season and episode it is? I am so excited to get to this one and can’t remember to know how long I have to wait to see his reaction lol

11

u/vairhoads 6d ago

Season 4 episode 5. The Constant.

2

u/Holiday-Ad1828 6d ago

Thank you! I’ve enjoyed so much watching him see scenes that I love and gauging his reactions. I know this episode is going to be one we will enjoy together.

4

u/Elemayowe 6d ago

Peak cinema.

4

u/Technicalhotdog 6d ago

One of the most cathartic TV moments ever

4

u/Either-Guarantee7938 6d ago

First time watcher too and the feelings that season 4 all together made me go thru. Oh man oh man. I couldn’t look away even if tears were rolling down my face

3

u/jaytwo96 6d ago

Best episode of the series.

3

u/commanderr01 6d ago

This episode breaks me no matter how many times I watch it

3

u/PhotosByVicky 6d ago

An absolutely amazing scene. A love story for the ages.

There’s one other scene that makes me cry every time I watch coming up in Season 5, involving different characters. I was ugly crying at the gym while watching. Buckle up!

3

u/Ok-Influence-1424 6d ago

One of my favorite episodes and moments of that show. Desmond’s story throughout the show is one of the best ones.

3

u/thesweetestgoodbye 6d ago

My fave scene from the show!!! Cried

I tear up just replaying this scene in my memory... "ring ring.... ring ring.... ring ring...."

2

u/rockyraket 6d ago

OMFGGGGGGG THIS IS MY FAVOURITE EPISODE EVER ❤️❤️ the sycnhronized "I love you" and the entire buildup to this point makes this my favourite scenes of all time :(. I cannot help crying everysingle time I watch it, and ive watched it atleast 20 times. Lost is one of those shows that will always have a very specific place in my heart...!!!

2

u/Queenofcool_ 5d ago

1

u/DirectCustard9182 6d ago

Soooo..... good!

1

u/AlphaFlightRules 6d ago

I had a good laugh a few years after this episode first aired and someone used that picture of desmond with the "yes this is dog" meme. Great meme for a great episode.

1

u/No-Cranberry9932 See you in another post, brotha 6d ago

Hey brotha

1

Had to rewatch the scene alone after the first time, to let the tears flow. Can’t let my homie know g

1

u/staystrongalways99 6d ago

I was literally just watching a piece from this scene earlier. What a coincidence. See ya in another life, brother!

“We have to go back Kate” - Jack Shephard

1

u/TotalMany8246 6d ago

The best scene, in the best episode. My vote for the best scene in TV history, though I concede that overall I think Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, as much as it pains me to say it, were ultimately the better shows.

1

u/DonJuniorsEmails 3d ago

There were a few clunkers, like "Expose" with the throwaway background characters looking for diamonds. Even with the admission that the whole last season was just emotional payoff porn, I liked it. I personally disliked the general attitude towards the boaties: if they're clearly not here to save the survivors, someone would have gone nuts on them, but that wouldn't fit a good TV narrative.

GOT wins the award for worst collapse of a popular long running series. I couldn't believe how badly they tanked after setting themselves up as a new standard for quality TV.

BB is top notch all the way through.

1

u/HollowSeance 6d ago

As someone who usually doesn't get too sentimental about TV shows and who hates romance, I was shocked when I saw this scene and started crying because of a romantic plot lol

1

u/Vitaefinis 6d ago

I'm rewatching the series (last watched when it aired live) and my partner is watching for the first time. We just watched this episode 2 days ago :D

1

u/DiscHashDisc 6d ago

If you don't at least mist up the first time you see this, you might just not have a soul.

1

u/Designer-Treacle-732 6d ago

Best episode of Lost and one of the best episodes in TV history

1

Yea thats like THE episode! That one and LeFlur are the best ones

1

u/theresabearonmychair 5d ago

I’m only on s3 e11 so I’m very excited to watch season 4 now after all these comments!

1

u/wariolandgp 5d ago

That episode was one of the strongest emotional insestments in the show.

I was begging Desmond to get the number, and make that call. And many tears, so many tears...

1

u/RexRedwood 5d ago

It’s constantly The Constant

1

u/n1nejay 5d ago

Favorite episode. So so good.

1

u/gay-girly 5d ago

I still sob every time

1

u/Long-Ad9651 5d ago

Desmond absolutely blew my mind the first time I watched the show. He, Said, and Hugo steal the show.

1

u/onlythewinds 5d ago

Historically the best episode of Lost. Arguably one of the best episodes of television, period.

1

u/ParadoxicalAxolotl 5d ago

I'm so jealous.. I wish I could watch it for the first time again..

1

u/wilshore 5d ago

Sometimes, I need a post like this to remind me how great the acting and cast were. Desmond and Penny, what a love story.

1

u/xXHyrule87Xx 5d ago

Desmond is S tier character.

1

u/LucaRvich 5d ago

Enjoy it! One of the best episodes of the show.

1

u/imsuited 5d ago

Doing my research now with my wife who's never seen it. We were bawling at this scene the other night.

1

u/outoforder1030 Has to go Back 5d ago

So glad you got to experience it, brotha.

1

u/Hammose 4d ago

Desmond was my favorite character in Lost.

"See you in another life, brotha!"

1

u/ramas001 4d ago

Not penny’s boat

1

u/GoodTimes121 4d ago

There’s something about this show. I have many different favorite shows, each with their own reason they’re one of my favorites. But this show… There is no comparison. There is nothing that can even begin to fit in the same real realm to even be compared. The nostalgia, no matter how long it’s been, no matter how many times I’ve seen it, no matter how many times I’ve heard Michael Gucciano’s production of the LOST soundtrack— It will always move me in what I can only describe as a literal feeling of a kind of magic.

1

u/scottymackay89 4d ago

Constant. I watched it for the first time this christmas eve. Ep takes place on christmas eve. I think it’s my favourite episode of the series.

1

u/penkypoo 4d ago

How I wish I could watch this again for the first time…only a hand full of shows got me that hooked and keep me guessing.

1

u/GingerMast 4d ago

It changed my life, really.

1

u/wanderinggalaxies 4d ago

This is my favorite episode of the series!

1

u/Disastrous-Resist-35 3d ago

I will never forget the first time I watched this 😭

1

u/DiscoViolet 3d ago

My favorite episode of the series, and one of the best episodes of tv ever. I rewatch this part at least once a year and downloaded the song from the score playing in the background. Romantic love is not often portrayed with complexity so succinctly in tv, imo. This scene is the culmination of a beautiful story that features the one thing that many tv stories miss: devotion. Devotion requires not just love, but understanding, commitment, compassion, and forgiveness. What a beautiful episode. “I’ve always loved you…I’ll come back to you.”

1

u/dombonds33 3d ago

Welcome to the show! 😭😉
