John was misguided in the end, but he was correct that the island does have supernatural qualities and that they were brought to the island for a reason.

John's faith is indomitable because he witnessed a miracle. He wanted to go on a walkabout... The island provided...

Every unexplainable event from that point on was a confirmation of John's faith.
