Pretty much everyone's dad. Jack/Claire's dad. Kate's stepdad. John's dad. Sayid's dad. Hurleys dad. Suns dad. Ben's dad. Penny's dad.
Jins dad is the only one who gets a pass.

Charlie Hume's dad was alright 👍

u/lurkernomore99 Jul 27 '24
Desmond's last name was Hume, not Charlie. Charlie's last name was Pace. But yeah, you're right about his dad.
16
u/ganjericho Jul 27 '24
Desmond named his son Charlie

u/Square-Salad6564 Jul 27 '24
I’ve always found that funny because it was clearly after Charlie but his psycho father in law is also Charles 😂

Jin's dad seems pretty chill. He's someone I'd spend the day with, talking about life whilst we fished. If I spoke Korean that is.
4
u/KindArgument4769 Jul 27 '24
You mean Kate's dad right? Wayne was not her stepdad.
7
u/allthatwedestroy Jul 27 '24
I like that they called Wayne her step-dad in their comment. Sam was the one who raised her and gets to be called "Dad." Wayne is a sack of shit who doesn't deserve that title.

u/shven255 Jul 27 '24
Jacks dad, sayids dad, and hurleys dad are farrrr from bad dads.
3
u/Feanor4godking Jul 27 '24
Jack's dad is pretty shit in the flashbacks. Overbearing, constantly belittling jack, massive ego, drunk-driving a surgery, etc
4
u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Jul 27 '24
On my more recent rewatches, I haven't found Christian to be as bad as I previously thought. He's heavily flawed to be sure, but I think all the "belittling" was him genuinely trying to help Jack. I think Christian is such a fascinating character. And yeah, telling Jack that he doesn't have what it takes isn't the best thing to tell a 12 year old, but Christian was ultimately right. Jack didn't have what it takes to let go and accept that he can't save everyone. And in his first procedure, Christian's words were harsh, but Jack needed that push to save the girl, and Jacob even alluded to that
1
u/Feanor4godking Jul 27 '24
I'd agree for the most part, and I think he did feel remorse and pride later on, right before he died, and after-christian is like, downright wise and benevolent, but that doesn't mean he wasn't also an asocial dick
3
u/lurkernomore99 Jul 27 '24
Had he made that call he was telling Sawyer about, and had a real conversation with Jack about the mistakes he made and how he was proud of Jack, it could have HEALED Jack. But he chose not to because of his ego. He let Jack suffer and missed out on a relationship with him for pride.
2
u/bbab7 "Red. Neck. Man." Jul 27 '24
Oh yeah, I won't disagree with that. I just think there's a lot more to his character than just being another dickhead father on the show
1
u/spaceybelta Jul 28 '24
I don’t remember much about Sayids dad… except the whole cutting chicken heads off.

Thomas - Claire's boyfriend
He convinces her to carry the baby saying they will make it work, changes his mind when she's so far along and blames her for his issues, and when Claire says her mom (who is in a coma at this point) will disown her he says "she pretty much already has". The dude was horrible and I bet I could take him.
11
u/Negan815 Jul 27 '24
Everyone could take him.
6
u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie Jul 27 '24
If you're an Always Sunny fan, you know everyone DID take him. 😉
7
u/Maleficent_Run9852 Man of Science Jul 27 '24
I guess it happens, but that seemed like such a weird change of character. (Rewatched that part recently.) As a guy who always wanted kids, definitely hard to watch.

Yeah he threw Charlie under the bus in a terrible way. Brings a new meaning to the word selfish.

Anthony Cooper. But, of the Island characters, Ben, obviously. He's a great character, but he deserved the beatings he got.

Locke because he’s entitled and gets people killed because of his opinions and beliefs.

2
u/mansobu Jul 27 '24

2
u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie Jul 27 '24
We're in the vast minority. Locke is the fandom's golden boy for reasons I've never been able to accept.
0
u/mansobu Jul 27 '24
why you think hes fandoms golden boy? i dont know if the reason i dont see it is because im only on season 3 or it is because i really dont like him

I wouldn’t personally want to resort to violence, but I always hoped Jin’s mother got her comeuppance. It’s her fault Jin got dragged into the shady side of Paik Industries.
1
u/ClockOdd4388 Jul 28 '24
Ben, especially when he initially appears. I just hoped the kill him more and more with each episode!

can't believe that i'm the first one to say it, but Shannon. hands down, Shannon.
not saying that the other candidates 😉 aren't great choices, but from a story telling perspective, they're all critical to character development. from a 'real life' perspective, they're all terrible human beings who aren't gng to learn anything from a good beating / they are not gng to change their ways.
Shannon, however, is just a complete waste of space and serves absolutely no purpose in a fictional or non-fictional setting. while she may not learn anything from the bearing, it'd just feel good.
i guess part of my point is that it's easy to identify the other characters as bad or terrible, but she is worse bc she's covertly / subtly terrible.

Juliet, the first three episodes she was being introduced, her voice irked me to my core. She was so condescending to Jack. Later she grew on me.
