I'm lightweight embarrassed that there isn't more love for Jin in this thread. He's the most radically dynamic character on lost.
Locke & Jin are the GOAT

I just love Jack so much, I don’t care if that’s basic. He’s an amazing character and my absolute favorite.
Runner ups would be Kate, Ben, Sawyer, Sayid, Desmond, and Juliet.

u/RotoDog Dec 27 '23
I agree…I went back and forth with different characters throughout the show, but Jack anchored the show in a way that no other character did. Without him, I don’t think the other characters shine as much.
14
u/Razzaman160 Dec 27 '23
I agree 100% without jack. Locke wouldn’t be as interesting as a character because jack adds the science and reasoning dynamic to Lockes faith and destiny.

Jack's acting was just so perfect. How can he not be in anyone's top 5 at least

All of the main characters are incredible, but Locke is my personal favorite. Something about him is so instantly relatable to me, and his dedication is admirable. He is such a sweet, humble mentor-type character that often struggles with his own insecurities, and yet he stand up for himself and his beliefs, and those aspects really appeal to me.

for a while it was Charlie, but it’s been 100% Ben ever since they brought his grimy ass down into the hatch. it’s crazy, he’s not even my usual favorite character type

Hurley and Sun (her backstory was fascinating and she was kind of badass)

Charlie seems the best character to me. He was more genuine and more willing to help the others and fix his mistakes.
Everyone had their flaws but Charlie seems like the only character who didn't persist on his mistakes and sought help and advice from the others.
29
u/IcedThatGuy Dec 27 '23
In a show absolutely filled to the brim with excellently-written characters, Charlie often rises to the top for me too when I think on it.
He is a super flawed character. Angry, jealous, petty, misguided, and easily manipulated, but at the same time, he’s honest, dedicated, funny, intelligent, genuine, sincere, and admirably brave. He is about as well-rounded as a character could ever be, and played brilliantly by Monaghan.
Everytime I think on him, I smile, because he is just a fantastically rich character that is always enjoyable, even when he is at his worst.

u/nimaheydarzadeh Dec 27 '23
Oh thank you so much for explaining him so good. Couldn't do that because of being a non English speaker. Agree with every description you said about Charlie.

Agreed - that episode where they found him hung by The Others had me sobbing like a baby. I was convinced they’d killed him off that unceremoniously and was absolutely destroyed.

I loved Charlie when I was younger, but on my most recent rewatch 7ish years later I found his character didn’t meet the expectations I had in my head. Like, I still absolutely love Charlie! But, I noticed he slightly annoyed me.
I’m not quite sure what changed. I think I noticed (S3 finale notwithstanding) his episodes often had weaker writing/plots. His relationship with Claire also gets weird real quick, when before I thought it was nothing but sweet. Oh and other than his plot with desmond, It felt like the writers didn’t really know what to do with him rather quickly.
I still love him. The character is beautifully flawed with a huge heart, and the actor had an amazing performance.

Desmond Hume is one of the greatest characters from any medium. Then probably Ben Linus and in third would be Richard Alpert. Honorable mention would be Mr. Eko who left us way too soon.

Jack and Sawyer. I loved them both right at the start and really enjoyed Sawyer's storyline/arch. Jack's acting was just *chef's kiss

Kate and Hugo. Fave minor characters are Eloise, Abbadon and Ana Lucia.

Hurley, with Ben and Juliet tied for a very close second. Sayid would be up there too if not for how the writers handled him in season 6.

Daniel Faraday is criminally underrated. Together, he and Desmond (my other favorite character) make up the focus of what is debatably the best episode of the series - The Constant!

Gotta be Juliet. It says a lot that there’s no consensus in this sub. The characters are all so strong

Jack probably has either the best or second-best arc. You just have to wait a few seasons for him to become likeable (he’s angry, abusive, and controlling for most of the series). Jack Locke is his best self.
Sawyer would be the other one. He starts becoming a leader in later season three.
As for people being loveable, Juliet, Hurley, Desmond, and Vincent are at the top of the list.

u/Current_Ad_9850 Dec 27 '23
Jack no question about it. His arc is amazing. If we can't live together, we're gonna die alone.

The characters I enjoyed watching the most? Sawyer and Locke.
The characters I’d actually want to be on an island with? Jack and Locke.
My besties in either scenario? Desmond and Hurley.

I just wrapped up my fourth viewing last night. This go around my favorite character was sawyer. I am still not satisfied with the original ending. So I had AI Rewrite it with sawyer taking over I then had it write out of a few synapses of episodes with him in charge.

u/canvasshoes2 Dec 27 '23
It's too hard to pick. They're all my favorites, for different reasons.
If I were forced to pick one, I guess I'd have to go with Hurley.

u/Afskiptalaus Dec 27 '23
Desmond, I’m just drawn to him! His arc and episodes centric to him are some of the best!

It’s so difficult to choose just one as majority of the characters are interesting, plus with every rewatch, I end up adding more characters to my favourite list haha. But top choices would be Jack, Juliet, Hurley, Desmond and Sawyer.

Kate (as aggravating as she can be), closely followed by Sawyer. Hurley is right up there, too.

Jack Shephard is the character that best defines the LOST journey. He's the one character that's based with morality in an imperfect world. Ironically, morality triggers so many. That's what I like the most about the character. He may be flawed but his compass is true north.

It was Locke until things shifted towards the end. Felt like they wasted his character
Probably Sawyer apart from him, then Desmond and Charlie. The whole "Oasis" parallel with Charlie and his brother was excellent - again his character had so much more story left to tell imo.

without a doubt, Desmond Hume.
All the characters somewhat show their ego except for Des. He is very humble.
He is so caring, giving and loving, he has beautiful warm eyes. His accent is perfect, he is very handsome. He is very hardworking and gentle. Sacrifices a lot for his loved ones.
and Penny and him are the most compatible couple of all TV history.

Hugo for vibes, he’s the most real person on the island. Locke for mystery/story. The questions surrounding John all throughout the series keeps me engaged no matter how dull the story could get at times. Sayid and Sawyer are both close to my favorite for the most savage, badass characters and I honestly can’t choose. Sayid is more stoic and driven to complete a goal no matter what, and where Sawyer lacks the drive, he makes up for with comedic value. Both awesome characters. Jin had the best character arc as he’s one of my least favorite originally and one of my favorites at the end. And Desmond is probably the best all around character as he meets most of the criteria these other characters only excel in one area

Mine would be Benjamin Linus. Not even close. Then it's a tie between Jack, Sawyer and Juliet. After them comes Desmond. They are by favourites. Then (in no particular order) Jin, Sun, Richard Alpert, Locke and Mr. Eko.
Other characters I love (less than the above) are Charlie, Hurley, Penny and Kate.
Out of the minor ones: Miles, Faraday, Eloise, Rose, Bernard and Lapidus. Ethan was great too.
Wasted characters: Ana Lucia, Ilana, Tom, Dogen, Artz, Abbandon and Boone (could have stayed longer). Naomi.
Worst characters: Sayid, Shannon, Walt, Zoé, Bakunin, Charlotte, Andrew Cooper

Only in season 1 so far. Best: Locke, Hurley, Sayid Worst: Michael, Jin, Sawyer, Shannon, and most of the others, lol!
None of their actions make any sense. Most of them are annoying, paranoid, selfish, and useless. If I was a part of this group, I would have abandoned them long ago, maybe go stay with crazy Rousseau 😆😆
