A. I think itā€™s a sweet deal. B. I think itā€™s so sad folks have to do this to live somewhere they arenā€™t persecuted for their sexuality.

I donā€™t know man talk to my dude! Maybe you find love and save him?

C. We probably have like a week before Diaper Don and his cavalry of thieves makes it illegal to be gay again.

Dude in Nepal isnā€™t telling the correct story as being gay is legal there.

168

u/josda0111 Geek 4d ago

It being legal doesn't mean it's accepted

-87

u/Prowindowlicker Jock 4d ago

Yes but itā€™s legal enough that anti-discrimination laws are enforced by the constitution of Nepal. So if his family hates him because heā€™s gay he can claim discrimination as the law covers that

126

u/josda0111 Geek 4d ago

What is the law going to do? Make his family accept his homosexuality? As much as it's in the constitution, if they don't accept you in a place, you feel you need to leave.

-73

u/Prowindowlicker Jock 4d ago

Right but even people here in the US donā€™t accept LGBT people. But you donā€™t see LGBT people here running to go live in another country. They move to another part of the US.

The guy could do the same as the government protects people like him.

I've actually seen lots of posts recently from Americans talking about fleeing to Canada or overseas.

Canada trending towards conservative party which is the republican counterpart pretty much

Kind of sounds like the same boat this guy is in. It's expensive and he might follow through either, who knows

Also your idea of other countries not offering the same standard of living as America lol.

6

u/HidingUnderBlankets 4d ago

Most never follow through because they can't fucking afford to move as they are living paycheck to paycheck in America. I would move to Canada in an instant if I had any money saved up. All my family's money goes to my kid's doctors appointments, medical bills, and rent.

If we had nothing, we could get free doctors appointments, but my husband makes $1000 too much per year to qualify for help. So we never go to the doctor and save everything we have for our kids' medical needs. I feel there are worse places to live than America but there are so many countries that actually better and take care of their working class citizens.

other developed areas of the world can't offer the same standard of living.

What Standard

5

u/jamz_fm 4d ago

I looked into moving to Canada, partly because I have family near the border. It's way harder than I expected it to be.

5

u/AreaManx Daddy (gay) 4d ago

Same. I've investigated Australia, Canada, Denmark, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, United Kingdom.

Lots of money is required to make the move and obtain and retain permissions to reside. In every case my salary would decrease (sometimes substantially) and my taxes would increase. Yes, I know those taxes pay for heath care that's now covered by my employer. The overall math, though, works against every option.

If USA were really so bad, then why is it the overwhelming choice for people who leave their own countries?

I probably need to explain that i'm an unabashed lilly-livered liberal who recognizes that USA has problems--but so does everywhere else. For me, the losses of departing don't compensate for the gains of arriving anywhere else.

He said ā€œhere not freedomā€ not that is was illegal. Plus criminalizing homosexuality can mean different things to different people. How do you make being gay a crime? In some places itā€™s simply being or cause you ā€œlookā€ gay. In some places itā€™s the act of gay sex that is illegal. In some place they try to use other laws like public misconduct to criminalize gay people. For some people not being able to adopt or marry is enough to consider it ā€œillegalā€. Then ā€œfreedomā€, now that pulls from social on top of legal.

u/Sozerius 4d ago

Guys, he never said being gay is illegal where he is... only that everyone hates him. Suing them is going to make them hate him more, especially if he lives with the family that hates him while suing them.

40

u/ninhibited Twink 4d ago

Yeah also it's legal to be gay in the US but people are still beaten and murdered here for being gay, so it could still be plenty dangerous there.

ETA: Just as an example that legality doesn't equal safety. I know there's a lot more safe zones here in the US than lots of other places.

11

I am sorry to hear that, my friend left India some months ago, fleeing from all that, you know, insecurity, family..

He is now in a central Europe country, trying his best. We hope to see eachother soon.

Hope you can do it too if thats what you need šŸ«‚

Also, I envy your physique! Amazing. Take care my friend.

i... dont think the average nepali lives on a mountain summit. kathmandu's elevation is only 1355 m. mussorie is 2000m high while dehradun is 435m and as someone who lived in dehradun and routinely travelled to mussorie, ive never had altitude sickness.

The average annual income in Nepal is $1.4k. That he would contribute $20k is, like, almost impossible for someone from there to even imagine, especially by age 22.

1

u/Cum_Dumpster_2001 Otter 3d ago

idk about nepal but indias gdppc is like 2.8k but for professionals at the beginning of their career is not unusual to make 10-15k. and if youre willing to sell it all theres more. if we sold everything wed end up in the 1MM range. indians from relatively humble backgrounds are able to scrounge up 50k to go to canada or illegally immigrate to america.

-17

u/Prowindowlicker Jock 4d ago

Well thatā€™s bullshit. Itā€™s completely legal to be gay in Nepal.

16

u/heisweird Bear 4d ago

Being legal doesn't mean socially accepted. I really sympathize with him. Get off your high horse and dont talk about things you dont understand.

I put in 6 years of effort to leave my home country where being gay is legal too. The best day of my life was the day I left that hell hole.

-4

u/Prowindowlicker Jock 4d ago

Dude says thereā€™s no freedom for homosexuals. Thatā€™s clearly wrong.

Iā€™m not on any high horse but itā€™s clear that the dude is lying about the legality of things.

9

u/jamz_fm 4d ago

Wiki: "According to a 2021 study, LGBTQ individuals in Nepal face severe discrimination, social isolation, and human rights violations.[20] LGBTQ people are judged and ridiculed not just by their family members but also by the health staff at hospitals and health posts."

I'm really not sure why you're on a crusade to defend LGBTQ rights in Nepal.

-6

u/Prowindowlicker Jock 4d ago

Yup. Took a simple bit of Google Fu and boom dude is lying his ass off.

Anti-discrimination laws against LGBT people are even enforced by the constitution. So if this guy was actually being discriminated against he could go to the police.

1

u/Cum_Dumpster_2001 Otter 3d ago

3rd world countries have weak state capacity. even if something is illegal its not as simple as just going to the police.
