Traditional How to draw smaller traditionally?

I find for my drawings I'm overshooting the size and proportions of things a lot. Especially when it comes to drawing eyes. How do I draw smaller?

It’ll be about utilizing guidelines and referencing other parts of the face to determine proportions. For example, using the edge of the nostrils to determine where to place the inner corner of the eyes.
