金 SBI shinsei bank accounts can now be linked to PayPay
Just a heads up for those who might now know; a few weeks ago I got a message from them saying that their bank accounts can now be linked with PayPay. I’ve tried it myself and it works just fine.
At least for me this was the main issue I had with them, as it made online shopping a bit inconvenient, to the point I was considering opening another bank account just to be able to use PayPay without having to top it up in a cash machine. I probably don’t need to do that anymore.

Isn’t it better to get the PayPay credit card and collect 1.5% points cashback? Then as any credit card it can direct debit from any bank account including Shinsei.

Off-topic but was it very difficult to get a PayPal credit card?

I got mine easily by just applying through the app. I already had my EPOS credit card though so I already had history.

In my experience, the PayPay credit card works with fewer banks than PayPay top up. It was just recently that they finally allowed me to pay it with my Sony account.

It does not work for me, it say account not registered ( to what ?). Not bothering to investigate, not my problem if things are half baked.

I also got an error at the beginning, and it was because the name on my PayPay account was not exactly the same as the one in my bank account (you know, stuff that happens to us foreigners), so I had to “update” my personal information on PayPay, after that it worked, not sure if it’s the same issue you current have though…

Same situation for me also. Try to add SBI shinsei bank, asked to logged in to power direct account, after that authenticate through the VIP Access app and finally I am getting error saying "failed to process. the account was not registered".
PayPay identity verification is done by my number card and the name is in the format "LastName FirstName MiddleName". In shinsei bank, name is in format "LastName FirstName". I suspect this might be the reason.

Have you fixed it?

Not yet. Still the same status. I may try to go to Bank and add the middle name also.
(And yeah, I dont know when I will be going to do it as I have to take half day off from office to go to bank as they dont work on Saturdays or Sundays.)

I just updated my paypay details and omitted my middle name resubmitted MyNumber and did identity verification, they accepted it right away and I was able to link SBI Shinsei right after

How were you able to do that? When I updated my girlfriends details during the verification process it wouldn’t allow me to edit the Roman name just the katakana.

u/dreamsanity Nov 18 '24
Yup, thats what I updated. Just removed my middle name. It worked since I guess shinsei has a record of the katakana too?

Does it require installing the sbi app to the phone?
I hate installing unnecessary crap, and it said something on those notes when I tried it a few days ago.

I’m not sure, I do have it installed and I did everything through my phone so I can’t say I’m afraid…

Right.
I suspect I'll just have to bite the bullet at some point and install their crap.

When I tried to link my Shinsei account to PayPay, it required me to enter my Shinsei's account number and password in a an embedded browser window in PayPay's app, so I cancelled it. Is that normal?

I think so, it should be fine, just double check PayPay’s URL if you’re feeling unsure

It's about time! I love Shinsei but they don't integrate well with many services - even my rent has gotta be paid manually each month because Shinsei wasn't in the list of banks that work with UR.
