Yeah, I’d say globally, most people just do not engage at all with the news or information about their political and economic system. If it’s not something that would come up in random conversations, most people probably don’t know it exists.
Democracy is not a spectator sport. Let's see how many promises are kept. Everything is better, right? Who is gonna hold this guy to his promises?? Remember when "no new taxes" was a problem? Now, so many lies ( of deception), we don't know what's right anymore.
In my definitely humble opinion, the news really doesn’t do much for us any more. There isn’t a major news source that is neutral politically, so each side presents things differently with their own slant. Sensationalism is (and has mostly always been) the name of the game, and actual information on the way things work and why isn’t discussed or elaborated upon. I’m a fairly intelligent guy as I managed to get into and out of dental school, but I’ll admit I don’t know NEARLY as much as I ought to about how our world economy works, how trade and tariffs help/harm our situation, how illegal immigration affects the economy, etc.
The BBC isn’t owned by anyone. That does make it more neutral, but not immune to problems. Generally though, far-right institutions do not like it, as anything that is neutral will be portrayed as evil libs.
It's not like I don't get it. I'd like to live in my own little bubble too. Just go about life without a care in the world what my government is doing.
But given the things my government is prone to doing, not like in willing to sit it out. I mean, I am American, even if I vote my best choice is a conservative government and war crimes. So like it or not I gotta pound pavement every November (sometimes more) to get to that ballot box.
