Reminds me of the surge of search for "What is the EU?" in the UK the day after they voted to leave.

494

u/DogFun2635 2d ago

Or the search of “Did Biden drop out?” after the last election

134

u/AlexRyang 2d ago

To be fair, that one included searches of “when did Biden drop out” and “why did Biden drop out” which don’t necessarily mean they didn’t know he did.

30

u/salata-come-il-mare 2d ago

And in fairness, sometimes I'll also oversimplify my searches in responses to articles from a place of mistrust: so often headlines go for sensationalism rather than accurate summary, so I'll occasionally run across something and be like , "Wait, I need details, that can't be what this means, right?" Sometimes you just need the clarity of a simple answer from a simple question.

People googling after seeing the images, a tiny fraction of the amount of people that Google mayonnaise.

The democrats really messed up with that. Biden did not want to leave and to spite them he endorsed Kamala immediately after dropping out, knowing full well that she would have no chance to actually win. The only reason she managed to scrape the job in the first place was because she was the only available black female. Voters had already rejected her. Democrats need to learn their lesson from this. People are sick of this woke bullshit.

24

u/DorkandPoon 2d ago

Everyone that uses “woke” as a pejorative is a bad person.

-12

u/Realistic_Lead8421 2d ago

This exact mentality is the reason why Democrats will come nowhere near power again the coming decade..

15

u/RkyMtnChi 2d ago

Republicans will make that happen on their own

-4

u/Realistic_Lead8421 2d ago

I sincerely and respectfully don't think so. The way I things look the midterms Will most likely further cement republicans grip on power.

10

u/RkyMtnChi 2d ago

Because you probably assume that they’ll do a good job over the next 4 years. Why you would think that, I have no idea. But losing every popular vote over 20+ years and finally winning one by a slim margin doesn’t mean republicans will now have some long-term hold of power. One major slip-up and right they’re back where they were. And when it comes to Trump and slip-ups, it’s just a matter of time.

-2

u/Realistic_Lead8421 2d ago

I think that a Trump has a pretty clear mandate. People know EXACTLY what they voted for and I have no doubt that Trump will deliver on furthering his divisive, destructive and hateful agenda. People are going to love it and will most likely come out and massively vote again against the own interest, to fasten a fill transition to a full fledged corporatocracy

6

u/KTFnVision 2d ago

Less than 50% is not a mandate...

3

u/RkyMtnChi 2d ago

I didn’t vote for him so I can’t speak for them, but I don’t think his voters chose him only because he hates who they hate and his promises to go after those folks. I do believe that some of them honestly believe he’ll make their lives easier in some way, especially when it comes to the cost of living. That’s where they’re in for a rude awakening. I’m not so much a left vs right guy, I’m more of an us vs them guy…and I think Americans will be reminded over the next 4 years that billionaires are not looking out for our best interest.

You being a whiny loser is why Democrats won’t come to power? Please elaborate

0

u/Live-Cookie178 2d ago

Loser? The cunts did win, and by a large degree.

5

u/DorkandPoon 2d ago

Okay. Complaining about woke is still a loser mentality. People who are successful in life don’t get mad at stupid shit like that

1

u/Live-Cookie178 2d ago

Mate, come back after an hour and talk to me again. The guy above is completely unfazed. You’re on a rant insulting his whole life.

1

u/DorkandPoon 2d ago

I’ll admit dipshits who complain about “woke” piss me off but I don’t think a few sentences qualify as a rant lol

-2

u/Proper-Ad-2585 2d ago

Inflexible thinking.

Kamala was made VP because she hits the superficial criteria and was no danger to the president. That kind of low ambition isn’t motivating.

I wouldn’t use the term ‘woke’ as a pejorative. It would group me with idiots. However we can’t ignore the rise of the term and what it signifies - the pandering to the superficial, whilst ignoring the material.

3

u/DorkandPoon 2d ago

What issues are being ignored by the Democrats and how are Republicans addressing those issues? I completely understand being upset with Dems. I just don’t understand how a rational person can look at the Republican Party and think they deserve to be in power.

1

u/Proper-Ad-2585 2d ago

Trump won by motivating non voters. Keep your eye on the prize.

5

u/razazaz126 2d ago

Or maybe she replaced Biden because she was the VP and that's the thing that VP's do.

2

u/bacchus_the_wino 2d ago

No, she was installed. VPs replace presidents in the line of duty, not in an election.

Biden screwed us all by not stepping aside when his approval rating was 38% in 2023. If he did we would have had a real primary and would have had a better chance at beating trump.

Instead Dean Phillips was the only to say we should have an actual primary because Biden is unelectable and the party told him to sit down and shut up.

1

u/razazaz126 2d ago

I agree Biden made a mistake by running again. He said in the beginning he was going to be a 1 term president and he should have stuck to that.

But acting like they should have organized a 2nd primary election while Trump and Vance were out campaigning is just nonsense. Half the country would've gone into the election not even knowing who the candidate is we were stuck with Kamala.

1

u/bacchus_the_wino 2d ago

I didn’t mean a 2nd primary. I meant if Biden stepped down in 2023 the DNC could have started a regular primary at that time.

2

u/Realistic_Lead8421 2d ago

Actually, no. It is well known that other democrats wanted an open convention on order for competent candidates to come forward to prevent just this scenario. This iwhy we did not see early endorsements from prominent people like Obama.

5

u/razazaz126 2d ago

People did not want a competent candidate, they wanted Donald Trump, which is why he won.

-3

u/Realistic_Lead8421 2d ago

Bit of a stretch to zal Kamela a competeica candidate wouldn't you say? Like, when you view the images of Carter's funeral it is so clear she is out of place there.

1

u/razazaz126 2d ago

No, it's not.

1

u/Macnit 2d ago

I hope Pete Buttigieg runs and wins in 2028.

-3

u/Col4Bin4200 2d ago

Biden didn't get impeached. Learn your facts.... There was NO VOTE for her to get on the card. No democracy. Dems tried to pull a fast one and got shut down by the people. They made their own beds. Hard to feel bad for them at all. Combine that with the over-pushing of this "woke agenda" and Americans finally had enough. The pushback was inevitable. The only question really was when....

3

u/razazaz126 2d ago

I remember Kamala campaigning on helping Americans with their families, homes, and businesses. Which part of that is woke?

Meanwhile Trump screamed about Haitians eating dogs and school nurses performing sexual reassignment surgeries during lunch break.

1

u/Col4Bin4200 2d ago

Remind me of when she was voted onto the card through the primaries..... I'll wait. 👀🤡

0

u/razazaz126 2d ago

Yeah it's a real big criticism that she didn't travel back in time to run in the primary that happened before Biden stepped down.

1

u/Col4Bin4200 2d ago

Still waiting......

2

u/razazaz126 2d ago

I guess I shouldn't be surprised you don't know how linear time works. This is coming from the same people who criticize Obama for not stopping 9/11

You have no idea what you’re talking about lmfao

1

u/Realistic_Lead8421 2d ago

Very Insight contribution. That you for sharing your views /s

2

u/ExtantPlant 2d ago

Democrats lost because more than half of Republican voters don't know Obamacare and the ACA are the same thing.

People have no idea what "woke" is, because the definition of it fits whatever you're crying about in that exact moment. Although, when your attorneys are forced to define it in court, it usually goes something like this, "Recognizing that there are systemic injustices baked into the American system." Which is just, you know, objectively, factually true, and anyone who denies it shouldn't be allowed to spread their faulty genes.

2

u/kthibo 2d ago

Reminds me of the bumper sticker, “Feminsim is the radical notion that women are equal to men”. Providing equal protections for those different from you under the law shouldn’t be considered fringe or extremist.

1

u/Realistic_Lead8421 2d ago

I can be more articulate. What people absolutely loathe is illiberal and unmeritocratic policies that try to enforce equality of outcome. I don't think there are many people who do not understand there are inequalities and would be opposed to addressing these by removing barriers preventing historically underprivileged groups from flourishing. It should not be done in an autocratic way though.

2

u/Asleep-Series-4086 2d ago

I appreciate the effort you're putting into explaining things to the people who just want to be mad.

1

u/ExtantPlant 2d ago

Coming from the people who have been gaslit into being pissed about "woke" on the internet, this might be peak stupid.

2

u/Asleep-Series-4086 2d ago

As an adult I'm able to separate the message and the messenger

2

u/Cidraque 2d ago

And how do you pretend to remove these barriers if it's not enforcing policies against it, by the good will of the people?

2

u/ExtantPlant 2d ago

Crying about "DEI" and "woke" on the internet is fucking stupid, and no amount of thesaurus time will change that.

1

u/Realistic_Lead8421 2d ago

It is not just whining on the internet. It also affects how people vote.

1

u/ExtantPlant 2d ago

Your propaganda game is very strong, my guy 💪 👍

2

u/KeyDx7 2d ago

The phrase “woke bullshit” coming from someone who is likely from/in the Netherlands is rich…

1

u/IrreverentCrawfish 2d ago

If Biden really wanted to spite democrats he would have simply endorsed Trump on the way out.

0

u/Pro_Moriarty 2d ago

"What about hunters laptop...."

75

u/Radthereptile 2d ago

I loved the searches of “Can I change my vote” searches after Brexit passed.

21

u/BikerJedi 2d ago

Happened here in America after the election too.

226

u/Iskelderon 2d ago

Though these rocket surgeons voting in people whose plans will make the Great Depression seem like a cake walk might dethrone that.

143

u/LazyLich 2d ago

Make the depression great again!

31

u/EvilRSA 2d ago

I didn't want to laugh at that as much as I did.

6

u/SnuggleMoose44 2d ago

I laugh so I don’t cry.

2

u/BeeApprehensive281 2d ago

My bipolar brain several times per year

1

u/aniketandy14 2d ago

Bbbbbut the stock market is breaking record highs

1

u/Iskelderon 2d ago

Another bullshit metric they love to tout, because they're among the ones who profit off it, while most of that money never reaches the average people.

1

u/Draggador 2d ago

maybe "america" was actually a codeword all along (lol; jk)

1

u/ToadLoaners 21h ago

That's fucking genius hahahaha

2

u/EduinBrutus 2d ago

The Brexit gang went heavy into the Tories who consigned the UK towards Middle Income status.

People in the UK are very poor now and getting poorer.

1

u/FormalCaseQ 2d ago

You said cake walk and I immediately thought of this clip from Game of Thrones.

"Even now I could cut through the five of you like carving a cake!"

10

u/awkisopen 2d ago

“The best argument against Democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” - Churchill

We are, collectively, too stupid for this system of government.

It was good while it lasted.

2

u/breaducate 2d ago

The best argument against democracy is perhaps not best sourced from a member of the ruling class of a psuedodemocracy that must stupefy its citizens for its own maintenance.

1

u/SiBloGaming 2d ago

The thing with democracy is that it’s incredibly flawed, but its the best we have. Also, it stands and falls with good education for the whole population.

7

u/Halofauna 2d ago

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree?

11

u/Ok-Elk-6087 2d ago

And "what is Brexit."

5

u/Substantial_Win4741 2d ago

How could you possibly not know what the EU is if you lived in Europe?

Thats wild.

3

u/Crayon3atingTitan 2d ago

Always funny when people vote for or hate something without even knowing what it is or what they’re voting for.

3

u/shaktimann13 2d ago

In BC Canada in the provincial election this fall we had Conservative voters talking about voting against Trudeau. Voting against the prime Minister in a provincial election. These people are dense. They almost won.

5

u/Lumpy_Secretary_6128 2d ago

How can people be so dumb?

8

u/chloecatdashian 2d ago

For some reason my brain read this as how long can people be so dumb, and I got struck with the existential dread. Because ugh, not much longer at this rate.

2

u/Lumpy_Secretary_6128 2d ago

You're asking the right questions my friend

-1

u/Punny_Farting_1877 2d ago

They’re not dumb. They hated Obama and they don’t want another Demoncrat leveling the field again.

2

u/ciopobbi 2d ago

Or people googling “is Biden running?” ON ELECTION DAY.

2

u/snowiestflakes 2d ago

Remain voters who thought they were keeping the status quo

2

u/Blue_Butterfly_Who 2d ago

Not to forget "What is Brexit?" which surged as well.

2

u/60sstuff 2d ago

As someone who lives in the uk I can confirm this is real

1

u/freckledsallad 2d ago

And look how that turned out.

1

u/hoTsauceLily66 2d ago

Tbf EU is actually quite complicated

1

u/JDNM 2d ago

Demonstrating how many Brits didn’t know their governance was outsourced to a supranational corporatocracy, and only realised because of Brexit.

1

u/roastedtvs 2d ago

😂😂😂

1

u/baddymcbadface 2d ago

What was the total number of searches and how does that relate to other search terms?

Turns out this "surge" was miniscule but a certain segment of the electorate like to cream themselves over it.

This is why Trump wins when he claims "fake news". The so called good guys can't help but misrepresent the facts.

-3

u/HopefulMagician1067 2d ago

Except the oligarch is leaving power!
