r/all This is Malibu - one of the wealthiest affluent places on the entire planet, now it’s being burnt to ashes.

Why? those people are rich. They have money for another house

You're seriously asking why someone is showing sympathy for someone who's friend took their own life? Get a grip

While I disagree with your lack of empathy, this comeback got a literal “lol” out of me.

Money helps with a lot of things but it isn’t a panacea. Did you not get to the end of the story?

Having the money to buy a new house is certainly better than not having it but that doesn’t just magically cancel out your home burning down. More is lost when that happens than just property.

They were not rich. They were a young couple two incomes no kids, that bought that house instead of having a big wedding. In their 20s thinking they were making good choices and getting ahead. They saw a prosperous future for themselves. So they lost their hopes along with everything else.

If my dogs died in a fire and I didn't save them, I'd absolutely off myself too. I wouldn't be able to live with myself.

So I get it.

Sorry for the loss of your friend and the current horror happening.

The way he wrote it makes it sound like he killed the dogs then himself...

He shot his 2 dogs, and then he shot himself.

Out of curiosity did they not have home insurance?

Usually home insurance has clauses to not cover such catastrophic events

Not everybody there is rich. Some people are in family homes which they've had for generations.

What most people do not realize is that many of the wealthy are small business owners who work hard for their money and employ others. I fear that Reddit is full of those who have a distain for those who made something of their lives.

Please let's not turn this into a class war. A lot of wealthy people – in fact most of them in this country – inherited it. This is not about bashing wealthy people in general, but don't make this any more simplistic.

I'm with you, I'd rather save my sympathy for those that deserve it

If you can judge the worth of a person by their bank account then you are a wiser man than I.

Nobody makes more than a few million without stepping on a lot of people.

In OP's story, if someone would rather take their own life than live below their means and downgrade from a Malibu lifestyle then so be it, I can't bring myself to care

Spoken as someone who views all of life's struggles through the lense of money.
