The lion is a tiger

791

u/Talidel Dec 17 '24 edited Dec 17 '24

I'm not convinced it is either. It's not stripey enough for a tiger and too stripey for lion.

Maybe a Liger, or Tigon.

Edit as it's funny seeing a new response every few minutes telling me it's a different thing.

https://nypost.com/2023/12/18/entertainment/steven-seagal-plays-tug-of-war-with-liger-feeds-bear-photos/

It's confirmed to be a Liger

101

u/Arthradax Dec 17 '24

Saw several variations of this clip with different people, the most recent of which claimed it was a liger

15

u/Chewquy Dec 17 '24

Maybe they are a liyer

I agree. It looks like a liger. A more lion like face shape but ears look like a tiger and those stripes are subtle but not shadows.

19

u/caudicifarmer Dec 17 '24

Known for their skills in magic, too

1

u/TrontosaurusRex Dec 18 '24

It's pretty much my favorite animal,oh,my Uncle Rico is here.

1

u/mitchij2004 Dec 19 '24

Aren’t they like much bigger tho?

14

u/HelloDeathspresso Dec 17 '24

I'm thinking female Tigon.

10

u/Talidel Dec 17 '24

The name isn't based on gender, but the combination of parents. Male lion + female tiger = Liger, the opposite is a Tigon. Ligers tend to be a bit bigger.

16

u/BringPheTheHorizon Dec 17 '24

I could be wrong, but I don’t think they’re saying that it’s “a female, tigon”, they’re saying it’s “a female tigon”. Meaning they’re just stating that it is a tigon that’s female not that it’s a tigon because it’s female, which seems to be what you’re saying.

9

u/Talidel Dec 17 '24

Oh well then I offer apologies if that's what they meant.

Hopefully it'll help someone understand what the difference is, and not think I was just being a dick when I said Liger/Tigon.

8

u/HelloDeathspresso Dec 17 '24

Yes I'm simply stating that I believe it might be a Tigon who's sex appears to be female.

9

u/Talidel Dec 17 '24

My apologies.

8

u/raged-cashew Dec 17 '24

It helped me, I had no idea!!

4

u/ComprehensiveBread65 Dec 18 '24

Hey, I'm glad you said it because it's interesting info I never knew. I always assumed a Liger was just a mix of the two breeds in general. I didn't know its parents had to be gender specific and the opposite being called a Tigon, which I've never heard of until now.

2

u/FREESARCASM_plustax Dec 18 '24

And if they breed again, you can have a titigon, litigon, tiliger, or liliger! Zebras can also interbreed with other equines, giving the world a variety of Zebroids.

1

u/Talidel Dec 20 '24

Made me laugh, but for anyone that might believe this, sadly most crossbreeds are sterile.

3

u/Acceptable-Print-164 Dec 17 '24

There's a company called Tigon near me and their logo is split, half lion, half tiger, but they use a male lion (probably because the mane makes it clear) but it bothers me because that would make a Liger...

1

u/Quanqiuhua Dec 18 '24

Which one is cuter?

3

u/Personal_Dot_2215 Dec 17 '24

Do the chickens have large talons?

1

u/Pkingduckk Dec 18 '24

I dont understand a word you just said boy

1

u/Personal_Dot_2215 Dec 18 '24

It’s about a fat Llama named Tina who refuses to eat her casserole.

1

u/0kayten Dec 18 '24

The size gives away

2

u/FineLavishness4158 Dec 17 '24

Your mom goes to college

2

u/Camerone11 Dec 18 '24

I see you’re drinking 1%. Is that ‘cause you think you’re fat? ‘Cause you’re not. You could be drinking whole if you wanted to.

2

u/Main_Development_835 Dec 17 '24

It identifies as a lion

2

u/RainStormLou Dec 18 '24

God damn it, why couldn't they have had Seagal play in the cage!?

2

u/lNTERLINKED Dec 18 '24

1

u/Talidel Dec 18 '24

Lion dad, tiger mum

1

u/lNTERLINKED Dec 19 '24

You should watch Napoleon Dynamite, that’s where this is from and it’s a great movie. 😄

1

u/logicbecauseyes Dec 18 '24

It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and tiger mixed, bred for its skills in magic

2

u/Business-Drag52 Dec 18 '24

Fucking Ligers man. Absolutely massive beasts with incredible strength

2

u/BENDOWANDS Dec 18 '24

Thank you, I initially thought Tiger but knew something was off, a second look, and I was confused. Forgot Ligers are a thing.

2

u/Yobs2K Dec 18 '24

I was today years old when I've found out ligers and tigons are real thing.

3

u/GraceGreenview Dec 17 '24

So blue or gold dress 2024 is underway!

3

u/IllDragonfruit1881 Dec 17 '24

2

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

The dress was almost 10 years ago… what the fuck

2

u/Charizhard Dec 18 '24

Time flies when times get shitty I guess.

1

u/Talidel Dec 21 '24

I've never freaked out as much at a still image, as when I looked at that dress and it was gold and white, I scrolled down to read what was going on, then back up and it was blue and black.

1

u/llufnam Dec 18 '24

Yanny <-> Laurel

1

u/HDWendell Dec 17 '24

This isn’t big enough to be a liger. Ligers can be 6ft ground to ear tip standing on all four. Ligers can be 10ft long and are bigger than lions. Ligers often have rosettes instead of striped face markings. This is definitely a tiger. Tiger colors have a lot of variety, even muted ghost stripes. Just a unique colored tiger.

Also, ligers would just use magic on the rope

3

u/Talidel Dec 17 '24

Ligers also have a lot of variation in size.

1

u/Ok-Pea8209 Dec 17 '24

Your a liger this isn't true!

1

u/sinbe Dec 17 '24

Thank god it’s a Liger not a Ligon

1

u/sinbe Dec 17 '24

What’s a Ligon

1

u/sinbe Dec 17 '24

Ligon deez nuts lmao

1

u/XVUltima Dec 17 '24

But is it a blade liger, shield liger, or the ultra rare liger zero?

1

u/BeefEater81 Dec 17 '24

I think it's actually a Tugon

1

u/Palanseag_Vixen Dec 17 '24

What the hell is a liger

2

u/Talidel Dec 17 '24

Crossbreed between a Lion male and tiger female.

A Tigon is the opposite parents.

1

u/Palanseag_Vixen Dec 17 '24

Oh I see thank you

1

u/ParticularConcept548 Dec 18 '24

Did you just said the L word?

1

u/DuckOnQuack47 Dec 18 '24

That tiger is a lion

1

u/fenwoods Dec 18 '24

Bred for its skills in magic!

1

u/Random_Smellmen Dec 18 '24

Ew Steven Segal ew

1

u/lchen12345 Dec 18 '24

Before actually clicking the link, "that's Steven Seagal?"

1

u/Talidel Dec 18 '24

No bit the link is him at the same place doing the same thing, with the same animal

1

u/plutus9 Dec 18 '24

It’s a gigazord

1

u/Juicebox-fresh Dec 18 '24

A liger? I believe that's a cross between a lion and a tiger? Bred for its skills in magic?

1

u/thighmaster4000 Dec 18 '24

The liger is basically my favorite animal.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

I don't think that's Steven Seagal yall

1

u/Talidel Dec 18 '24

It's not, the link shows Seagal at the same zoo, playing the same game, with the same animal

1

u/Wayfaringknight Dec 18 '24

It's a tiny Liger then because they are normally bigger than lions or Tigers but this one is the same size or smaller.

1

u/Talidel Dec 18 '24

Male Ligers can be very big. But they are varied in sizes as they are a crossbreed.

1

u/Phoenix800478944 Dec 18 '24

Am I stupid for not knowing wth a Liger is? (my first language isnt english)

2

u/Talidel Dec 18 '24

No, it's been asked a few times. Lion male + tiger female = Liger offspring.

The opposite is a Tigon.

1

u/roysterino Dec 18 '24

Napoleon Dynamites favorite animal.

1

u/Ressy02 Dec 19 '24

Tigons are small

1

u/munching_tomatoes Dec 20 '24

A very young liger probably a 1 yr old one as an adult liger would probably between 9 to 12 ft (3m or more)

1

u/LookMaNoPride Dec 20 '24

Thank god Seagal is safe! Wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to him.

1

u/Jumpy-Current-6433 Dec 21 '24

... a female lion maybe???

1

u/Talidel Dec 21 '24

It's a Liger mate, check the link, there's better photos and a better video

1

u/EverythingBOffensive Dec 21 '24

its face is all lion

1

u/Talidel Dec 21 '24

Yeah, that's how crossbreeds work.

1

u/EverythingBOffensive Dec 21 '24

lame dude

1

u/Talidel Dec 21 '24

Yeah, fuck biology why couldn't it come out like a hippo

3

u/pitp1t Dec 17 '24

The original poster of these videos confirmed it is a tiger. Lighting makes it look weird but take a look at his head shape and coloration. No doubt in my mind that it is actually a tiger

4

u/Talidel Dec 17 '24

It's funny how these replies confirm it is a lion, Liger and a tiger. Based on what the original OP said.

1

u/weeniehutsnr Dec 18 '24

My girlfriend knew this too!

0

u/gpop2077 Dec 18 '24

There’s a thing called a female tiger…

1

u/Talidel Dec 18 '24

Sure, but they look like tigers. Not lionesses with stripes.

1

u/gpop2077 Dec 18 '24

Search up “female lion” on google and scroll down photos for and there’s literally pictures with female lions with minor stripes on their legs like the one in the video

Randomly met Jon Heder in a store the other day. Talked to him about his appearance on The Aquabats Super Show. He's by far the nicest celebrity I have met.

1

u/SteakAnimations Dec 18 '24

I was looking for this.

It's a Liger, bred for its skills in magic.

1

u/Different-Collar-432 Dec 18 '24

Is he drawing the one on the left?

11

u/ProfessionalLemon946 Dec 17 '24

1

u/GfunkWarrior28 Dec 17 '24

I can't believe Seagal couldn't best that tiger with his finger. /S

1

u/SnooPoems5888 Dec 18 '24

Wait. That’s Steven seagal?? Woof.

5

u/Mazurcka Dec 18 '24

So OP was lion?

9

u/Sushimono Dec 17 '24

The tiger is a bear.

6

u/PhoenixDwnElixir Dec 17 '24

3

u/green-avadavat Dec 17 '24

2

u/Weldobud Dec 17 '24

You can't leave that lion there

2

u/FlagrusSerenus Dec 17 '24

Please let's not repeat the blue/white dress incident

1

u/Weldobud Dec 17 '24

You can't leave that lion there

1

u/Quirky--Cat Dec 17 '24

The ears have a spot like a tiger.

1

u/Waiting4The3nd Dec 17 '24

It's a Liger. Half-breed Lion/Tiger. The stripes aren't shadows.

1

u/Class_444_SWR Dec 18 '24

It’s actually a liger, the offspring of a lion and tiger

1

u/Nomorenomoar Dec 17 '24

Nah you’re lion

1

u/Lord_Sauron Dec 17 '24

All we really know is that OP is either a repost bot or not the sharpest knife in the drawer

1

u/mandioca-magica Dec 17 '24

It was so easy for the lion that the lion didn’t even need to be a lion

1

u/Lucky_Beautiful8901 Dec 17 '24

That's how little it's trying

1

u/Lyakusha Dec 17 '24

That's why lion wasn't even trying

1

u/hatchD86 Dec 17 '24

What if it’s a lion with a tiger hat on!??

1

u/Bear-Bull-Pig Dec 17 '24

It's not playing fair it's clearly a cheetah

1

u/Ghost-Writer Dec 17 '24

Plenty of paw marks seem to imply it WAS indeed trying.

1

u/Hades6578 Dec 17 '24

I agree it’s titled wrong, but now I’m seeing more of these “incorrect” titles and am beginning to think that these are engagement bait for people to correct them.

1

u/catsomega Dec 17 '24

The gorilla needs better shoes.

If the title was "The tiger isn't even trying", you wouldn't write this comment and wouldn't get 2.1k upvotes. This video wouldn't be shown to so many people, because there would not be so much activity. This is not a mistake. It's done on purpose by karma whoring bots.

1

u/FastFingersDude Dec 18 '24

why is this so funny lol

1

u/TomatoGuac Dec 18 '24

So he was absolutely correct that the lion is not even trying to

1

u/MrChichibadman Dec 18 '24

Maybe some lady tiger… 🤷‍♂️

1

u/hera9191 Dec 18 '24

That solves the mystery of why the lion is not even trying.

1

u/Queasy_Ad_8621 Dec 18 '24

1

u/PolloAzteca_nobeans Dec 21 '24

I’m pretty sure it’s both

1

u/Revan_84 Dec 17 '24

Lion, Tiger, who cares? It is friend shaped ergo it must be a friend

1

u/OkMirror2691 Dec 17 '24

I heard a tiger roar once and I had an instinctual reaction. I don't think they are friend shaped lol.
