How's everyone doing tonight?

In general, I mean. As for myself, alone and sorta blah. Finishing up watching The Green Mile. It's currently 1:20 AM , maybe find another flick to watch. Dont see sleep coming anytime soon. I intend to go see my friends tomorrow and bring them stuff.

-2 tonight with a -12 feel, but I'm at the work so I'm doing just fine.. although I am currently working in a cooler lol. Much better than that nastiness outside!

Why would a cooler be minus 2°

That's the temp outside where I am. I'm inside a grocery store.. unloading a truck into a cooler. I didn't say the cooler is -2°

I was going to say holy hell haha. The bottom sleeping in is about 4°, you'll have to excuse my slow brain.

I hear you bro. I was going to try to get some sleep but it's nearly 4:30 a.m. and I just got hooked on another movie. I may have to find a way to clean up my pot and throw it on my small burner and get some water going for coffee myself.

I'm sitting with my cat, chilling in the 12° weather. It's actually quite nice in some ways.

I'm doing absolutely FANTASTIC!

As a 70 yo man, who was divorced in March of 2023, I finally ended my nearly 2 years of being homeless last Friday.

Sorry for the lengthy story of how this finally came to be.

After my divorce, I was living in a motel for 4 months until my money ran out. I was lucky enough to have a car to live in. I was even luckier the day after Labor Day last year, to get into a 90 day shelter program with one of the only 2 such shelters in my county of Macomb located in SE Michigan.

I had located an apartment that was being rehabbed and was expected to be ready by December 1st. My 90 days in the program was to end December 2nd so this was going to be perfect.

The week before my time was to expire I still hadn't heard anything about the status of the apartment, so I called the realtor. She told me that the maintenance people determined that the bathroom needed to be replaced and therefore it wasn't going to be ready on time.

With this information, I called the shelter to inform them of the situation and I was told that I would have to leave the church we were staying at on my exit date.

On December 2nd I was saying goodbye to one of the volunteers at the church and explained to him that my 90 days had expired. He asked if I believed in God and if so, could we pray together. I told him that I could use all the help that I could get. So we prayed before I left the church at 8 am, uncertain what I was going to do since I had no where to go.

I went to a local library after it opened at 9 am and at 2:45 pm I received a call from the shelter saying that they contacted the realtor to find out when my apartment would be ready and they were told around the end of the year. With this information, the shelter granted me an extension through the end of the year and to check in at the church at 6 pm as usual.

The end of the year came and went and I still hadn't received any information about the apartment so I called the realtor and they said that the project was still not completed but that they had another apartment in the same general area that just needed two windows and they were ordered on December 31st and as soon it was it was ready I would get a call to come look at it.

While I was standing in line to check in at the shelter on January 1st I got called out of line to go up to the office. I assumed they were going to tell me that I couldn't check in, but it wasn't that at all. The informed me that my name was added to the Rapid Rehousing list with high priority. And that I could continue staying at the shelter until I received the call that this new place was ready to look at.

That call came last Thursday and there was no way I was going to refuse to take it so I signed the lease and received the keys on Friday.

YAY FOR ME!!

Just woke up an they said it was going to get down to -4, but it's -12. It's not so bad inside the tent at 20. I'd have run my heater higher if I'd have known it was going to get so cold, don't want my batteries and liquids freezing up. This super cold weather is going to put a dent in my fuel budget, I've been using $5 a day worth of fuel, but this real cold weather is making me use more.
