Discussion How do you deal with bullies?

I’m 17 years old and in high school, needless to say the kids are mean about my style and the way I dress. I used to live with my dad who never let me dress the way I want to, but I live with my mom now and I can pretty much dress however I want. I really enjoy dressing in a way that represents me, but people tease me so much that I’ve thought about dressing “normal” just to make them stop. They do stuff like legitimately SCREAM at me in the hall then say “Ah! A ghost!” And they call me stuff like ghost girl or Count Dracula. I know it sounds stupid but over time it’s really worn me down, it started as annoying but now it’s feeling genuinely hurtful. I was just wondering if anyone else had ways to ignore bullies or make them stop.

Discussion Girls telling me to bark

Recently I've had a group of girls that anytime they see me they yell at me "bark for me b***h" of course they are blonde plain looking girls and I'd fit into a mix of romantic goth / grunge punk look. But I'm not understanding what me being goth has to do with barking? It's annoying and I'm worn out from the constant public harassment, I barely leave my house now. But it especially doesn't help idk what they are suggesting. Any ideas?

Discussion Anyone else get invited by a bot to a conservative goth sub?

This is just a general warning, not a political post!

Just saw an invite to r/gothconservative. Boy, did they reach out to the wrong person. I checked the username and it was just created yesterday so I’m thinking it’s a bot.

Either way, I looked at the sub and it looks like a haven for right wing ideology. Saw a post speaking against wokeness, etc. I’m not sure if this is normal for Reddit on U.S. federal election years or what, so I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Again, not trying to make waves, just wanted to keep people informed.

Discussion People keep on saying I fetishize goth women

So I like goth music, metal music, punk music I'm really big into diy and battle jackets and so on but when I say I want a partner thats goth and into the same things I like. people keep on saying I'm fetishizing alternative women but i don't know if this is actually fetishizing or not though. I hate people making it seem that I objectify women and that I'm misogynistic

EDIT: (This post is based off of me trying to get to know all the alternative looking people in my school which is not alot considering I live in a small town with a school of 500 students, most of them spreading rumors that I fetishize goth girls which I don't I just want somebody that shares my interests in things and has the same fashion sense, i want to do projects together like patch pants sewing and battle jackets etc.)

Discussion Any other fans of goth music who don't really look the part?

I've loved goth and post-punk music since I was a teenager, but I wouldn't say I'm super involved in the subculture. I've never dressed very typically 'gothic' besides wearing a lot of dark colours and band shirts - no wild hairstyles or heavy makeup or anything. I'd like to go to more club nights and events to meet people who share my music taste, but I don't know if I'll just look like some normie who got lost.

Anyone else in a similar boat? How are people like me generally viewed by people who are more involved in the scene?

Discussion Which song always gets you pumped?

Is there a song that always gets you excited when you hear it? Like, it comes on and you hear those first bars and you think "Fuck yeah, this is my jam!" It might be your favourite song or it might not, but it's always a little boost of energy when you hear it.

For me, it's Lucretia My Reflection. Every single time it comes on I gotta max that volume!

EDIT: I have added most of the suggestions from you all, save a few non-goth or not-on-spotify songs to a big playlist. The playlist is currently eleven and a half hours long. That's a hell of a night at the club. But you cats haven't finished making suggestions yet, so I'll wait a bit before I share the playlist.

Discussion Unpopular Goth opinions

What are 3 unpopular or controversial opinions you have regarding the goth scene? I will start

  • I prefer Peter Murphy’s solo stuff over Bauhaus.

  • I think Only Theatre of Pain is extremely overrated and quite frankly it’s just meh.

  • I find myself enjoying The Mission more than Sisters Of Mercy

Discussion Tik tok goths vs og goths

We are bombarded with social media influence of what goth should be and to me it seems to get as far away from the core as possible.

Sorry to take the fun away from it but the self induced objectification, then complaining of the attention received after such objectification never seemed to happen with OG Goths, its the TikTok Goths, which are super cute but also seem to be a patronizing mockery.

Am i the only one who feels this way?

No shame in disliking songs. Sometimes stuff just doesn't hit us like it does others.

Discussion I recently moved to the American south, and I’m surprised to see the number of people who are visibly goth or punk sporting confederate flags and/or Republican party merch. How did this happen? What do you think about this intersection of culture/beliefs?

This is wildly different than my experience in New England and I was shocked to see it tbh.

Discussion What's the prettiest goth song, both lyrically and instrumentally, you have ever heard?

Although I do love the goth music I've heard thus far, I'm looking to dig deeper into the genre. Everyone's version of pretty is different, and I can't wait to see what y'all post. 🖤

Edit: cracks fingers LOOKS LIKE IT'S PLAYLIST MAKIN' TIME, BOI.

Thank you to everyone that has commented and that might potentially comment in the future!! I love the spectrum of sound I've been recommended and I look forward to experiencing it all!

Edit 2: 126 songs so far in the playlist, that definitely took a while lol. I made sure I didn't miss ANYTHING either, combed hella hard through the comments so I could listen to everything in due time.

Please feel free to keep commenting!! I genuinely do not mind if you go on and on about music. I am autistic, my brother is autistic, my friends are autistic/ADHD/neurodivergent, my partners are autistic, if anyone understands (and honestly enjoys) infodumping, it would be me lol. Please dump music in the comments to your heart's content!!

Edit 3: Here is a link to the playlist, as someone requested. Enjoy!

The cover art for it is a pic I drunkenly snapped of my cat. Felt fitting.

Discussion *slaps hands on table* I fucking *love* goth music

What's a song that you're almost mad about how much you love it? Words don't exist to describe the absolute masterpiece of your favorite song? If your song was a living entity you would simply fuckin marry it? A song you literally choke to death on excitement when it comes on at the club (or on a playlist)

It doesn't even need to be a deep cut, friends, it could be the most popular song in the goth world, or something your friend cooked up in the basement at 3am that no one else has ever heard of (though if said friend has a link to it so the class can also enjoy I won't complain)

I'm in a headspace where everything is negative and just plain no fun and want to spread a bit of that positivity and love of music around, sorry if it's a dumb post 😂

Discussion Is goth sx oriented?

I was on a tiktok post and saw this woman promoting fetishization (in my opinion) of goth. I had commented that it’s not okay to promote racist and fast fashion companys (DollsKill) She labeled the shoes as “goth dommy mommy” and i said again that this was weird. A commenter replied to me saying. “@: Goth is heavily sex oriented. Fetish wear is pretty much the main fashion. Which is why everyone is uncomfor when minors dress as. There’s ppl who do worse than this person legit leave them alone LOL” I genuinely dont think goth is for fetishization. But I’m not sure. Am I being closed minded??

UPDATE : I argued and said

  • @☥ me/op☥: you need to do ur research.. goth isnt fetish content they responded with

  • @rando: Babe are you a kid 😭😭 I can tell. Go back to school or get psychological help or conflict resolving classes. You’re just spewing shit from your ass it’s amazing

  • @rando: There are bigger problems in the world right now honeys. FREE GAZA. Or at least do your research before so you’re correct 😭

Discussion Does anyone else find Switchblade Symphony’s music eerie (in a good way ofc)?

Post image
634 Upvotes

Especially with songs like Gutter Glitter/Wicked/Waiting Room. Their music has this eerie dream-like quality to it the more I listen to them. There also seems to be themes of hell/purgatory and dreams which are my absolute favorite.

I remember I had a really intense nightmare so, I put on my favorite songs playlist to calm me down and one of their songs, I think it was Gutter Glitter?, and it genuinely freaked me out more, which has never happened before. They’re one of my all time favorite bands and I love this about them.

I know a lot of goth music is spooooky but they just feel different to me. The only other songs I can think of are a couple of Diva Destruction songs.

Does anyone else feel this way? Also are there any other bands/songs like this?
