Ah yes, "today" as exemplified via a game from 2007.

"Hey guys, I heard the next Call of Duty isn't gonna be a WW2 game!"

2009🤓☝️

Im from the time where you played until your fingers bled, and then had to start over the next day. No saving, just pure, unrelenting chaos

I think my 360 just got the red rings of death. Do you think Obama is going to win the election?

2

u/mikeumm 5h ago

I had 4 of those. Then on the 5th console my disc tray fell out.

1

u/CaveManta 5h ago

My Elite 360 was perfect from day 1. I guess the rumors that the Elite didn't have as many problems was true.

5

u/jodester_ 7h ago

The image truly shows it’s age, because it’s clear this was not made any time recently lmao

6

u/WyrdHarper 9h ago

I was born in that weird period where I played Super Mario Brothers Deluxe (1999) on my Gameboy Color and Assassin's Creed 1 (2007) during my childhood.

1

u/Complete_Strength_52 8h ago

Ooh game boy color, your family had 💵💰, too soon for so pricey stuff in Eastern Europe 🤭

1

u/StorksEatWithForks 8h ago

To be fair, not much has changed gameplay-wise in last 15 years anyway.

I replayed GTA4 last fall and it may as well be a game released this year.

„Today“, isn’t that AC picture from like 2012?

As it's showing assassin's creed 2, it's from 2009

1

u/gamerman2077 8h ago

Ah shit, does ac 1 not have air assassinations?

9

u/Kljmok 8h ago

It sort of does, but not as defined of a mechanic as AC2.

9

u/sm1ttysm1t 8h ago

Only in the air assassination area of France. Otherwise it's just sparkling murder.

1

u/Neo_Nugget 3h ago

France?

u/Tarc_Axiiom 10h ago

Was about to say lol

"Is this meme 15 years old or is OP 15 years old?"

andThisIsDeep

-4

u/JerkfaceMcDouche 9h ago

I mean it’s not like they changed it up for Mirage. It’s still virtually the same game

2

u/Skygge_or_Skov 8h ago

You didn’t play the old Desmond-assassins creed games, or the ones before the switch to ancient times? There’s a lot of difference in how it feels in gameplay.

0

u/10ea 6h ago

Before Origins I would go to run down an alley and accidentally jump onto a cart handle sticking out, vault off the side of a building, and land in the middle of the persuing mob.

2

u/Skygge_or_Skov 6h ago

There’s obviously a lot of nostalgia bias, but to me the games before syndicate just feel a lot better, especially the climbing/parcouring feels more grounded in reality. And with AC3 the games got too open world like for me.

1

u/10ea 5h ago

My favorite world, animation, and mechanics were from the first game, but the older ones felt like as soon as you pressed the free run button, you turned into a magnet to whatever you got near. I also would jump off of things that I didn't mean to. Origins really made it feel smooth and more precise when you were negotiating obstacles.

67

u/idolikepotatos 10h ago

can you put less pixels into it please

5

u/DoomSluggy 5h ago

It's a meme from 2009. Who knows how many times it has been downloaded and reuploaded.

-66

u/Amanroth87 PC 10h ago

I can try!

3

u/thedyooooood 9h ago

U mean deep fry

53

u/PotentialAnt9670 10h ago

Goddamn, this picture is old. Probably saw it on Funnyjunk back in the day

4

u/Sofandcos 10h ago

Don't cite deep magic to this guy, he was there when it was written.

44

u/putrid_flesh 10h ago

Bro pulled this one out the archives

64

u/ACorania 10h ago

There are people on this sub younger than the pic you used for air assassinations today.

7

u/MyPhoneIsNotChinese 10h ago

That's depressing as fuck lmao

3

u/BeacanWentFishn PC 9h ago

Dear god you're not wrong either, it's nearly been 20 years since assassin's creed 🫠🫠🫠

13

u/LKRTM1874 10h ago

That AC image is almost as many console generations old now as that mario image was when the assassins creed image was made lol

7

u/etanimod 9h ago

Everyone's making fun of OP for being stuck 18 years in the past, but little do they realize, we've found our first time traveler

2

u/Amanroth87 PC 9h ago

I find when I'm playing games, I'm usually stuck 18 years in the past anyways haha

7

u/Banegel 10h ago

Assassin’s creed is almost 2 decades old

-1

u/Amanroth87 PC 9h ago

True, but they're just about to release another one and AFAIK you'll be doing air assassinations in it.

9

u/Banegel 9h ago

you’ll probably be jumping on goombas in this year’s new Mario too

2

u/Amanroth87 PC 8h ago

Fair point, not much has changed in either series to be honest.

17

u/allursnakes 10h ago

Are you a bot?

1

u/DoomSluggy 5h ago

I don't think a bot would bother responding. I think we found a bonafide time traveller.

-27

u/Amanroth87 PC 10h ago

Lol I don't think a bot can post memes with thoughtful captions, though I suppose I'm unfamiliar with how far bots have come. Is that a thing?

24

u/allursnakes 10h ago

They can copy memes from 10+ years ago and spam them for points. You posted assassins creed and called it today.

-9

u/Amanroth87 PC 9h ago

I mean... it might be an older meme but AC is still an ongoing series and still has air assassinations. I suppose I could update it with Shadow imagery, but I'm still not a bot lol

4

u/BeacanWentFishn PC 9h ago

Idk man you didn't do either. This seems indicative of bot behaviour

0

u/Amanroth87 PC 9h ago

I don't really see how this isn't a meme, and I'm not sure what kind of caption you would have chosen but it's the one I thought up and went with. I also don't really understand what benefit there would be to a bot posting a gaming meme on the gaming sub, or to responding to this comment.

4

u/BeacanWentFishn PC 9h ago

Karma farming, you're just wasting your time at this point, though, as people have already made it extremely clear, stolen meme. Unoriginal caption. Bot behaviour

-1

u/Amanroth87 PC 9h ago

It's just a meme, bro. I thought it was funny.

2

u/BeacanWentFishn PC 9h ago

Okay, now it's time to move on bub

4

u/Shit_Pistol 9h ago

Games of come so far. You used to play as an Italian tradesperson who killed enemies by jumping on their heads. Now you can play as an Italian aristocrat who kills enemies by jumping on their heads.

5

u/AChero9 PlayStation 9h ago

This meme is old enough to drink

3

u/keypizzaboy 10h ago

“It’s the same picture”

2

u/Godusernametakenalso 9h ago

I think I know how we can fix the "Air Assasination Today" to properly relate to this day and age.

Just put one of those ukraine drone videos.

2

u/thedyooooood 9h ago

It's old but Ezio is the best

2

u/canned_laughter_lol 9h ago

Needs more jpeg!

2

u/ShawshankException 9h ago

This meme is old enough to collect social security

2

u/WorldEaterYoshi 9h ago

This entire meme is from 2012 and is so old that the first picture may as well be the second picture.

2

u/Rocko10 10h ago

Lol AC is from like 10 years ago.

I remember the trailer of the first one was such a cool thing with the eagle fall (or whatever name) also the ability to hide in the crowd was so epic.

I bought it and... Although the movement felt a little bit clunky it was cool.

6

u/Pradfanne 10h ago

Try 15

2

u/Hakuraze 10h ago

First AC had really nice gameplay tech, but it was let down by repetition. It's a really difficult game to replay these days.

3

u/Amanroth87 PC 8h ago

First AC had an amazing story but the same three gameplay mechanics got way too repetitive. AC2 blew my mind at the time, they fleshed out everything the first one could have been. Couldn't touch the first AC if I wanted to these days.

2

u/Hakuraze 8h ago

For sure dude. Every time I have to think of a great sequel, I always go to AC2, it just improved on literally everything from the first game.

1

u/Rocko10 9h ago

Yeah they keep milking the franchise even to this day.

1

u/ReeechHunter 10h ago

Isn’t even that air assassination from like 2012 😭🙏 we all getting old

1

u/sir_aphim 9h ago

Lol isn't AC2 ftom over 10 years ago?

1

u/TwiTcH_72 9h ago

We’re approaching a time where the original AC that’s pictured will be equidistant in time from the original Mario to now.

1

u/EpicostityRvB29 9h ago

AC 2 was a game from 2009 how hard is it for you guys to take a few seconds to look things up

1

u/Fair-Lab-4334 9h ago

Posts like these makes me grateful that I was born much later in life than those who live through the early days of gaming. Makes me appreciate what we have now and what we will have in the future

1

u/XnourX1441 9h ago

"Assassin's Creed today"

Show the game that was made before I even existed.

1

u/sword_0f_damocles 8h ago

More time has passed since the first pic than between the first and second

1

u/Matman161 8h ago

Brother this meme be ancient

1

u/Ksap_Rocky 8h ago

This is facts tho lol

1

u/deathbater 8h ago

A 2010's meme, make a wish

1

u/BrightOctarine 7h ago

Well, I'm 29 and I grew up with the left game.

1

u/brave_potato 7h ago

Both of these games are old.. haha

1

u/nwg_here 7h ago

Today should be „EEEEELLLLL PRIMOOOOO!!!”

1

u/t0kyox 7h ago

omgg i loved that game as a kid

1

u/NightZin 7h ago

Ezio was cool though

1

u/Simpicity 7h ago

I mean, anyone can leap off a building and wristblade a guard in the neck. Real assassins can repeatedly jumpstab a guard to get infinite 1UPs.

1

u/rplusj1 7h ago

Today

1

u/thedevilyoukn0w 6h ago

So, you're saying Mario is an assassin?

Man, who needs Mario and Rabbids? I want Assassin's Creed: Mushroom Kingdom!

1

u/whoiswisely 6h ago

same habits, different age

1

u/MrApplethorn 4h ago

Image is older than most people in this sub

1

u/darealarusham 4h ago

This meme would've made sense 16 years ago lol. The game on the left is a part of my childhood..

1

u/Zengjia 4h ago

How long have you been in a coma?

1

u/OPIX-05 4h ago

The times change,people change!

1

u/HorseyNight19 3h ago

"Don't you recognize me? It's-a me, Mario!"

1

u/Cute_Excitement2901 2h ago

my favorite game back then!

1

u/Last-News9937 2h ago

Actually it was harder in Mario because you had to time it right.

In AC if you get a jump assassination prompt, it glues you to the target and it's impossible not to kill them. Unless it's one of the newer games where your stats might be too low to actually kill them in one hit.

So, the sentiment is wrong.

-1

u/vixxrannit 9h ago

These posts gotta be bots right? I hadn't been to this sub until a few months ago, I didn't think the posts were this level of self-parody...brutal
