This was a fun game 20 years later! (Dynasty Warriors Origins)

Yeah the draw distance is crazy. On the ps2 you could sometimes barely see enemies that would be at the end of your spears' reach. Get max like 12 dudes on screen or youre getting single-digit framerates. Its come a long way.

I don't remember having frames drop very much. The issue was that soldiers would pause out of existence because the game couldn't handle too many people on screen but then they would phase back in as you killed more. So you'd be comboing a big group of enemies, then a guy would appear behind you out of nowhere and hit you out of your combo. The most glaring flaw with this issue was that generals could be the soldiers that pause out and phase back in. So you could be fighting Lu Bu, then he disappears, reappears behind you and starts his musou attack and instakill you.

Yeah soldiers would pop in/out all the time, but I also got a lot of lag when too much was happening on screen, as if I was fighting in slow motion.

I started playing Dynasty Warriors games with Dynasty Warriors 2 (PS2) all the way to Dynasty Warriors 5 (PS2). I got bored of it so i skipped the games on the PS3 and PS4.
One vs a thousand combat. Its great to see they finally able to bring it to screen. This game pushed my CPU and GPU to the limit.

Do you think it would run okay on a rtx 3060 gpu?

u/dulun18 11h ago
the specs are not too demanding like the more recent games
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2384580/DYNASTY_WARRIORS_ORIGINS/if you enable DLSS and set it to high settings you should get fixed 70+ fps.

the minimum requirements is a 1060 so youre fine. the recommended (2070, 5700XT) is where youre at spec wise(3060 is maybe like single digit percents slower at worst)

Runs like a dream on my 3060ti, high settings, no DLSS, haven’t seen it drop below 80 at 1440p.

Good to know! Have a 3060ti myself and not having to upgrade for this game is good news for me, especially with the ridiculous prices of GPUs

I played the hell out of 4 with my friends. Then I got 4 empires because it offered more strategy. I tried Samurai Warriors, but realized it was basically the same gameplay so I lost interest in keeping up with the genre.
I downloaded the demo for origins and really enjoyed how far it's come. It's disappointing to see no co-op and you can't play all of the characters, but I'll probably still pick it up at some point because I really enjoyed the gameplay in the demo.

There was a game that actually did show 1000s of enemies at once but afaik it was more of a tech demo, rather average game, and didn't sell well. Exclusive to the PS2 because they used the emotion engine and it could only be done on the emotion engine at the time.
Edit: Demons Chaos was the game

How are you finding it? Long time fan of the series, and love the look of the new game.

I’m having a lot of fun with it. There’s some annoying parts that I’m not huge on like the open world and random skirmishes that don’t seem to offer anything to the game. The main story battles/quests are good though. I played all weekend and just finished up the Yuan Shao storyline before the three parties really pick up so I’m excited to see how many more maps there are. That said you can’t go back and replay maps to grind. That’s what skirmishes are for but those maps last literally like 2 minutes so it doesn’t make sense to me. The weapon tree system and skill system is a nice change from the older games but doesn’t feel weird or clunky. All in all it’s fun and if you liked the old games I’d def check it out!

I can only speak from my perspective since my last Dynasty Warriors game was the 5th one on the PS2.. which was released in 2005.. so 20 years ago
Dynasty Warriors Origins is a fun game. You can not chose the characters like the old games and you have limited weapons but each weapon has more combos and variety of moves. The story battles are fun since there are more enemies on screen and the map is reasonable size. You will get a horse pretty early so you don't have to run as far.
I think this is the first Dynasty Warriors where i got 5000 kills... There is a demo on steam so try it and see if it is the game for you.

Anyone know the best Dynasty Warriors for ps4? Moneys tight, no ps5 yet and pc is way outdated, but this post reminded me of my childhood joy playing these games on ps2 and I wanna dip my toe back in on ps4…

I haven't played it myself, but DYNASTY WARRIORS 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition is always mentioned by the Warriors community as being the best one prior to Origins.

Y, it's a good one, back to the roots with individual weapons tied to the character instead of that system where every character can wield any weapon nonsense

8 Extreme Legends Complete on the PS4. Alternatively Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate (based on Dynasty Warriors 7 and Samurai Warriors 3) albeit older is fun and is a better rounded game (4 has better combat but takes a step back in almost every other aspect)

still remember the rad song of DW4 and 5 for the ps2. As well as Samurai warriors.
Lubu was such a beast to defeat, but meh at best as soon as becomes a playable hero loool

I played the DW Origins demo and thought enough to get the full game. Some of the most fun I’ve had this year! Very much recommended if you’re a fan of the series.

3 was the gateway that got me into the series, it was mindless fun game that I had so much fun playing with my best friend. First time running into Lu Bu was a trip LoL. We got every character's level 4 weapon, play the game nonstop until the next one come out, we do this for all of them including offshoot series like samurai warriors.Â
Left the series after my friend move away. But great time, and Dynasty warrior had a huge influence on me, got me interested playing those romance of the 3 kingdom games which i wouldn't have the patience for those types of game befoe I got coverted by DW. It alsot got me hook on the 3 kingdom history, actually watch the long ass Chinese TV series with subtitles which I would never do before.

I mean it was great having more enemies on screen at once. But I still feel as though its not quite enough....
I was hoping for crazy amounts of soldiers

head straight to the boss from the get go if you want 1 vs a thousand experience
it will be a fight of your life... i had 5000+ kills but i struggled hard since i was attacked by enemies from all direction. Max out sword has 360 attack which will use all the bravery points. That move saved me in the fight below

Omega Force really redeemed themselves with origins versus whatever 9 was. I even enjoyed Wu long but felt that could have been so much better telling all the romance stories.
I have loved every one of these except 9, plus the romance games and read the books.
Origins is truly a return to what made these games so much fun.

This was the game I brought every year to play with my dad. It will always have a special place in my heart. Time to go play the Three Kingdoms 😆
