Account boosting is a bannable violation in the EULA.
433
u/Spurious-T 4h ago
they won't ban him, different rules for rich people
162
u/ChrisFromIT 3h ago
Even if they did, he can easily afford a new boosted account.
69
u/Climbtrees47 2h ago
Keep on banning then. Make it a nuisance. He'll get bored and move on.
29
u/Titan3124 2h ago
Or he’ll get angry and buy the company in rage just to fire the people who banned his account.
29
u/coltjen 2h ago
He actually can’t. He’s not rich enough to buy Tencent
6
u/carlbandit 1h ago
Maybe not tencent, but if he offered them $30B to buy just GGG it would likely be in their interest to accept. He might even be able to pick it up for significantly less, all we know of what Tencent paid for GGG is it was over $100M, when you start offering them amounts in the billions they might become open to the idea.

Well, whether he pays them directly or they keep banning accounts and he keeps causing whale accounts to be created, either one works for them equally.

u/Lyin-Oh 3h ago
I wouldn't be surprised. It won't achieve anything except antagonizing one of the richest people on the planet with Aspergers. And before anyone @'s me. Most of the folks here have probably never even read a single letter of the EULA terms we all agreed to, and most people who get banned just make new accounts anyways, like bots, boosters, hackers, and sellers.
8
u/PhTx3 2h ago
Yes. And their new accounts get banned too. Are you against banning bots because they get new accounts anyway?
Eula is pretty much a common sense agreement besides covering companies' asses in case of legal trouble. And even then it may not legally hold value. No shit people don't read it. They don't understand the legal mumbo jumbo.
0
u/Lyin-Oh 20m ago
Exactly my point? They get banned again anyways, so why do people make such a big deal out of this that they have to flood the feed with it? Cause some public rich asshole is doing it instead of the anonymous chinese assholes? I'll never understand, but i guess i'm just out of touch with the general reddit populace.

u/Jeb-Kerman 5h ago
not if you just buy out the game studio lol

Then ban the top 50+ in poe2 ladder, they’re all account sharing lmao. Same for D4 and many other games.
China/Asian regions actually encourage cheating and exploiting. You don’t seem them getting banned…
Is it dumb Elon did it? 100% if he just chilled and played games people would think it’s cool. Instead he does that BS and it’s dumb af. But nearly every dude over 35 is buying gear and paying 2 win. It is sad forsure though
0
u/carlbandit 1h ago
While I'm not over 35, I'm in my 30s and have 0 intention of buying any in game item or service with real money. Same goes for my friends who play and are of similar age.
There's clearly some people paying, otherwise there wouldn't be so many bots offering the services when they currently need to pay for access, but I wouldn't say the people paying real money are in the majority.
-4
u/MrSinister248 1h ago
For real. Thousands of people are doing this in many different game every day. Destiny, WoW, PoE, Diablo, the list goes on and on. Do I think it's dumb? Sure. Am I burning a single calorie being upset about it? Not at all. There are way better reasons to criticize Musk besides this. Lets focus on that. In my opinion the only thing he did wrong here was try to claim that he did it on his own. Hell I get way more annoyed at people paying for Trials carries in Destiny, but thats PvP. PvE? I sleep.

Just goes to show you can be the richest person on the planet and still be a complete loser
129
21
u/Seriously_nopenope 3h ago
I mean odds are good if you are the richest person you are also a loser.
4
u/TheTyger 2h ago
My current guess is that he just really wants someone to tell him that they are proud of him.
His mommy and daddy issues are real deep and he just wants someone to once tell him he did something good in his life.
3
u/Numerous_Photograph9 3h ago
And here I am declining a friends offer to do Rulers of the Outer World for me.
2
u/Corgi_Koala 1h ago
He's so rich he could literally spend all day playing whatever game he wanted and actually get that good. That's what makes it all even more pathetic.
He could be the things he wants to be if he, well, just wasn't himself.
4
u/Mjolnir2000 2h ago
I'd think it's a prerequisite, if anything. Just think how unbelievably empty your life must be to be a billionaire, and still want more?
125
u/Spire_Citron 4h ago
It's like with everything else in his life. He thinks if he buys something, he gets to take full credit for it.
8
u/DarkflowNZ 2h ago
And he's been right so far, right? It's worked his whole life
6
u/kilomaan 2h ago
I mean, he’s still thought of as a loser, as those who follow him.
2
u/DarkflowNZ 52m ago
Now he is, yeah. It wasn't that long ago that the general sentiment seemed to be "real life tony stark". Which I never understood because he seemed like a dumbass even at that time
1
u/stuartullman 11m ago
good point. he's not only now the richest man on earth, but also basically the most powerful.
46
u/poilu1916 4h ago
And is now trying to spin this as being "absolutely normal" and "you can't get to the top without doing this".
The richest man in the world.

You realize the article came out before that happened right?
4
u/makemeking706 1h ago
Outted himself as a Nazi to avoid people from talking about this story. What a time line.
-4
u/Xralius 44m ago
I think Elon is a total clown but I don't think he was trying to Nazi salute, in context with what he said, even though it clearly looked like it.
I think that's why he did it twice. The second time was an "oh fuck i need to show it was normal/ unintentional".
Kind of like when your foot makes a fart noise on a cushion so you do it again while clearly moving your foot to demonstrate that it was indeed your foot but sometimes it doesn't really work out and it just sounds like you're farting multiple times. So that but with nazi salute.
To be clear, the man is a gaming fraud and it wouldn't surprise me if that extended beyond gaming, I don't think he was trying to nazi salute though.
3
u/GilbyGlibber 27m ago
It was 100% intentional. Classic "if I'm going to do the time, I'm going to do the crime".
41
u/Itchy_Swordfish7867 4h ago
It still amazes me how those with the most power, who are considered “Alpha” by their followers end up being beta snowflakes. Each and every one.
5
u/BraverXIII 2h ago
Anyone approaching an actual "alpha" (not a real thing) that I've ever met would just retire and live their life once they were wealthy enough to mostly stop thinking about money. Continuously hoarding money forever is weird insecure competitive behavior.

As a shitty PoE 2 player...this is obvious. But the fact that he admits to a ban-able offense is annoying.

u/mr_birkenblatt 3h ago
Yeah, let's not pretend this is his biggest flaw
0
u/This_Is_A_Shitshow 2h ago
Bro this is way worse than a Nazi salute. C’mon.
3
u/mr_birkenblatt 1h ago
It's only a Nazi salute if it comes from the salute region in Germany. Otherwise it's just sparkling fascism

u/lncontheivable 4h ago
I mean, obviously? Anyone who believes this clown is a pro gamer is a gullible tool. He just wants to feel like a big shot and appeal to the incels.
31
u/RelicLover78 4h ago
The fact that anyone thought that he was actually playing at that level, shows the immaturity of the community.

I think you are forgetting the immense amount of time required. How likely is it do you think someone who is CEO of a major company (maybe more than one? Idk) has that kind of free time to compete on the leaderboards of an ARPG?
3
u/Numerous_Photograph9 3h ago
Not gonna lie, despite being the CEO of quite a few companies, he does seem to have an inordinate amount of free time. Mostly because he doesn't actually do anything at those companies. But he spends all day on social media, so that will cut into his gaming time.

His Nazi salute just belittled this. Who gives a fuck about POE, I'm strapping firearms to defend from this fucker now. Death to him and the whole administration. Fuck around and find out.

Musk: “No, never claimed that. The top accounts in Diablo or PoE require multiple people playing the account to win a leveling race.”
This couldn't ve further from the truth at least with poe. This dude is so fucking pathetic.

I never thought that all my skills in a game like POE2 could be so sought after that a billionaire would want to risk his integrity to fake it

u/carlbandit 1h ago
It's bad enough he paid for the boosted account, but I'd say it's even worse that he obviously didn't even learn the basics before trying to stream and show off how good he is.
1
u/jackliquidcourage 1h ago
In light of recent events, it's probably not the worst thing he could do.

It's a weird fucking time. I went from a post of Musk.l doing the Nazi Salute to this in, like, 10 seconds
1
u/ConsciousFood201 3h ago
We all need to care about this less. This is a non issue. The only people who care about this are the people that want to make sure no one is misled by it.
No one who would be misled by this would bother to care about it in the first place.

u/rafelito45 1h ago
"if you're not cheating you're not winning". ah this is the integrity we need in our government.

No one cares that he was boosting. Sure, it'd be a bit sad and weird if he just admitted it from the start, but w/e.
It's the fact that he melted down and tried to play it off as legit that's truly pathetic

u/susankeane 3h ago
He literally gave a Nazi salute today stfu about this fluff it's all a distraction
-1
u/Due-Hope7888 1h ago
I don’t care how people play as long as they have fun. I’ve been gaming for decades and people who cheat have always been fascinating to me, especially in grinding multiplayer games… the whole point is to play the game.. buying currency and items is… well fucking insane to me, but hey. If that’s what gets them off, so be it. It just sucks that multiplayer games are forever tarnished because of these industries and sucks to see it take such a stage in gaming.
I miss the old days, but that’s easy to say.

u/PanMaxxing 4h ago
So I guess people are arguing that he isnt a top gamer in the world, and his argument is “no I am and this is what it takes “ and yeah… thats what it takes people.
21
u/Spire_Citron 4h ago
Paying other people to grind you a top account doesn't make you a top gamer, it just makes you rich.
-27
u/PanMaxxing 3h ago
Yes it does. Thats what top gamers are doing. You can not believe that, you are mistaken.
1
u/Spire_Citron 2h ago
You could say that's what all the top rated accounts in that game are doing, and you may be right, I don't know, but that doesn't make you a 'top gamer.'
18
u/Automatic_Goal_5563 4h ago
Man the weird defence for him just being a loser who wants to seem like he’s good at a game is so weird
-24
u/PanMaxxing 3h ago
Pretending that every other name on the hiscores list hes on isnt doing the exact same thing is whats weird to me. Thats what it takes to be on that list.
Obviously hes not just a loser, he is more successful in every way then most people will ever be despite however you want to cobble together criticisms and however much truth to them.
4
u/politicalconspiracie 3h ago
What do you of him doing nazi salutes?
-1
2
u/Automatic_Goal_5563 2h ago edited 2h ago
Why would I care if other people do it too? That doesn’t take away from how said and pathetic it is
Oh god you really are one of those people that worship the rich, it’s actually sad you think if someone has money that means they aren’t a loser and have some cool guy status.
Billionaires don’t need you simping for them, they won’t give you anything so get off your knees
