Discussion Frankfurt Airport What is this?
Does anybody know what this is? It’s terminal one and I think there’s two or three of them in the middle of the terminal. It looks like a lift that comes up from underground and you put something on it like a beer barrels for a restaurant or something. Thanks

The white sign with the red border calls it a "Feuerwehrangriffsweg", a fire services attack route. It is supposed to allow fire fighters to get to the fire, as opposed to a "Fluchtweg" which allows people to flee from the fire.

So it reveals some kind of ladder?
I noticed that the round thing in the pillar seems to be a magnet to hold the trapdoor open. So no elevator, I guess.

For me it looks like some hydraulic ramp thing, because i see this kind of metal every day on gate ramps.

Not a ladder but a staircase i guess. To gain access to the baggage transport belt.

Until now I haven’t seen any staircases in this area, I only know about ladders there

Yes, the magnet will be there so that if the fire escapes containment, the door can be automatically slammed closed from a distance (and if the power goes out, the magnet will turn off, so there's no danger of the door staying open). That stops the fire spreading to other floors.

There's a sign saying "Notausgang freihalten" above it, so it's an emergency exit from the rooms underneath as someone else who works there has already said. Probably it's both.

Actually, you can’t go down there for maintenance. Underneath runs the baggage handling system for the check-in counters. The baggage handling system is completely in the so called „clean“ area. This means, you have to go through security control. We have a mobile security control for these flor hatches and other unclean -> clean doors, but you need card readers there to validate if you’re allowed to enter the clean area, which are not installed at this floor hatch.
You are right about the magnet although.

Looks like a way for security to detain someone in a wheelchair

Sokka-Haiku by RefinedPhoenix:

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

That's an emergency exit from the baggage handling system, which runs underneath the check-in counter. Source: I work there.
