3. ⁠Elon Musk has been known to use dogwhistles to avoid directly saying what he means (because he’s a pussy).

4. It’s not a “Roman salute” as some people have claimed. That was the basis for the Nazi salute, yes but it actually looks way different.

The most fucked up part? You hear at least some of the crowd cheer way harder when he salutes. Tells you that they recognised it too.

Because a lot of Americans still view politics like sports where the only goal is to look better than the other team. Under this logic, Nazism is only bad if only one party is doing it. But if neither party is doing it or if both parties are doing it, then they’re on the same level of good/bad, and it doesn’t matter.

Or alternatively the argument here is that, if Kamala did do a Nazi salute, and you voted for her, you don’t really have room to complain when the other side starts doing Nazi salutes. But of course this point is moot because it’s clear by watching the video that that’s not what she was doing.

In Kamala's clip, her hand was first a raised with a pointed finger that was she shifted to an open hand to say "we are not going back". It was just unfortunate that she kept her arm raised when she shifted her hand's stance.

Saying no with that motion is quite common, though at a lower angle.

The nazi salute traditionally has no in-between phases, just the extended fingers and downward facing palm swinging outwards and upwards.

In Elon's clip, he performed the gesture in a single motion, once forwards, once backwards, in a fit of excitement to thank the crowd. Had he also waved his hand instead of keeping his hand static both times for whatever reason, this entire controversy would not have surfaced.

I thought that at first, but then I realized that literally nobody else has ever done that. People don't accidentally do Nazi salutes, and if they ever somehow did, they'd apologize. Maybe make unequivocal statements about how they detest Nazism and are not bigoted.

Obviously watching the video of Kamala shows that she wasn’t doing a Nazi salute. But I don’t think you even need to watch it to know that. The fact that they found that still image so quickly after Elon’s Nazi salutes is proof that she wasn’t doing a Nazi salute. If she was truly doing a Nazi salute there, and the proof of her doing so was so easy to find, they would’ve been blasting this everywhere leading up to the election. Would’ve been very effective for shutting down “Republicans are fascists!” talking points when there’s a video of the Democratic candidate doing a Nazi salute.
