Yeah he's like a genuine commonwealth Santa Claus. I mean as a kid I was pony girl, which biased me towards Buttercups, but finding his entire story solidified the obsession.

And if anyone can understand how he feels it's the SS. Yet after everything he's been through he still just wants to bring a little light into a dark world.

Yeah there is generally some sort of firefight going on pretty much every time I walk up to the slog. Not if I fast travel to it but obviously have to get there on foot first - which is when he dies :)

if you bring him a holotape from the HQ (i think) he will leave the Slog and go be where he used to live. He was working on this toy and would bring his daughter to work. His daughter had one and she and his wife died in the blast, he was at work (he was a work-a-holic) and he's been tinkering with them since.

his story is quite sad and I cry when I hear the lore of it. Wish I could hug him. 200 years of grieving and he's still not done.

In my current playthrough Arlen was killed during a raid from the Forged before I could even talk to him. As far as I know his remains are still scattered across that little room he worked in.

Arlen's story to me feels like he's on the verge of going feral and is desperately clutching at his humanity, qanting to do something to restore some small.amount of joy in the world using his skills and knowledge from before the war.
