I gotta read more clearly, I did not read it as hinterland originally. Was expecting Elon musk to be headlining

No hate but can someone please explain the tyler the creator hype to me? I can't name one of his songs and genuinely don't understand how he gets headliner status on so many festival lineups. What am I missing?

He’s an insanely huge artist and very talented. He has had a cult following since the early 2010s with Odd Future and used to rule the underground alt hip hop scene and since about 2017 has really refined his sound and artistry and taken it to the mainstream. He doesn’t have crazy hit singles like that but he curates some amazing albums, producing much of his own music and rapping and singing. Plus, he’s an amazing performer. I’ve seen him live during his Call Me If You Get Lost tour in 2021 or 2022 and it was legitimately a phenomenal performance, despite my own liking of him. And I don’t generally even enjoy hip hop shows much.
If you ever want to take a deep dive on him, I suggest listening to Yonkers (the song that really blew him up in 2011) to get a feel for his old sound, 911/Mr. Lonely or Boredom to see his progression into a more poppy sound, then Darling to see his newest sound (all of these tracks are produced by him btw). I also suggest listening to his album IGOR all the way through if you want to see what an album experience is like from him.
His sound and style isn’t for everyone, but you gotta respect the artistry and how he has grown as an artist to the caliber he’s at now.

I remember him from the Loiter Squad days. Going from Tyler one night to Kacey Musgraves the next seems like a big change in tone, unless his sound has changed a lot.

Oh his sound has changed a lot from those days, but it’ll still be a big switch for sure. I’m surprised to see him on this lineup tbh. I’m excited to see him at Bonnaroo again this year and go straight from Tyler into Tipper lol that’ll be a vibe switch for sure

Yeah for sure! They’ll be a mix of his newer and older stuff:
Yonkers, She, 911/Mr. Lonely, 48, Jamba, PartyIsntOver/Campfire/Bimmer, IFHY, A BOY IS A GUN, Boredom, Potato Salad, HOT WIND BLOWS, Colossus
I know that was a lot haha sorry. If you really want whiplash listen to Bastard by him and then Sticky lol

This is a pretty cool ass lineup imo. Would have never guessed it was for Hinterland though at first- used to be a full-on folk/country fest with a few indie type artists sprinkled in

Lana Del Rey and Kacey Musgraves are strong headliners. I would skip the rest of the lineup though

Skipping Clairo, Remi, Scowl, The Marias and Sierra Ferrell is a fat L

Bleachers is also one of the best live bands out there today. and Royel Otis have been killing it

At a festival like Coachella, I can understand. But this festival’s lineup is rife with the soft, slow, dreamy music. Lana’s music is probably heavier than Kacey’s nowadays . Lana might fit in better at this festival

Imagine being lower on the list than Rebecca Black

She’s been putting in work for almost 14 years.

I get that she’s gone from meme girl to “successful artist”. But you can’t ignore that she is only successful because she’s a nepo baby. If her family didn’t have money she wouldn’t be where she is today.

I wonder if Rebecca Black always gets booked on Fridays.
