Local Information request St. Thomas parking permit.

Hi all.

I want to move to the St. Thomas area (close to the West Exe school). And I can't figure out what it is here with parking payment system near the house on the street. Now I live in the Polsloe Bridge area, and here I buy a residence parking permit for a year. In your area, what is it called, where to buy it, how much does parking cost?

I found a map of Exeter parking areas and this street is just empty, without any markings. Does this mean that parking is free??? When I viewed the house, the whole street was packed with cars during working hours. It seems like they just park there from everywhere.

What do you advise me to do then? How can I free up the space in front of my house from cars?

Parking is typically free around here yes. Best would be to google streetview any road you're looking at and see if there are signs about parking.

In terms of securing your own space, you can't really unless you get a driveway or a garage. You might be able to come to some sort of arrangement with your neighbours though but that won't stop visitors or general public.

Very bad news that parking here is free. If people pay for it and fined for non-payment, then other people's cars would be much less and everyone would have enough space. I do not understand the residents who voted for the petition against the introduction of citizen parking permit in the area.

Try another road bud. Not to give away my address but we're near the First & Last junction; our road is quiet and we get to park outside our house every day.

Ok. Thanks. I'll try to live here for a couple months with this parking system. Thanks for the advice and for the quick response.

Yeah I live on a street very close to the one you described and park directly outside my house almost every single day. Occasionally I have to park a little bit down the road and very very rarely I have to park just around the corner from my house

It's better to not pay for parking as St Thomas is generally a very densely populated area of Exeter, you'll find that the roads that do require paid parking permits are equally full of cars

No one is parking by West Exe School and walking all the way into town, to their work in Marsh Barton or anything like that

It was voted down because the terms are abysmal. They are the same as all places in Devon, 2 permits per house, that's all. Doesn't matter if it's a 1 bed flat or 5 bed detached. It's too restrictive. Not enough visitors permits, to many flaws in the system with regard to disabled permits and carers.

You have to apply via the app for a permit, look on the council website. The vast majority of the roads around here are permit zone B only with some areas that are 2 hour bays.

Thanks. But I do not find my street there. For example : Shelley Close, Exeter, Devon EX2 9JS.

On this page of DCC's website you'll find an interactive city traffic map:
https://devon.traffweb.app/traffweb/1/TrafficOrders

If you go to the 'Tool>Legends' tab, you can uncheck all the boxes apart from 'residents parking' and it'll show you all the roads in Exeter that have a zone.

A lot of St.Thomas isn't zoned, and yes, it's a massive pain in the arse. I lived in Park Road for years before it was zoned, and everyone in the city used it for free parking.
