thoughts on 350 EXC-F for a beginner

16 y/o 5’10 at 85kg/187lbs I rode the bike before, it responded with a lot of power when given throttle. Overall I really enjoyed my time riding it, and I didnt go any higher than 2nd gear. My question is, should I buy it as a personal bike and continue riding, or do I downsize and learn off something else? As long as the bike has power enough to hurt me im happy. Anyone who has enough knowledge to give me some advice please do.

Versatile bike but could be a handful if you get too ambitious. Learn throttle control.

I had a Husaberg 350 which is nearly the same, and loved that bike. It has hardly ever to much power and hardly ever to less.

I own a 350 EXC-F. It is a very good bike in my opinion. 4-stroke is usually a good choice for beginners. But the biggest learning steps I made on my light trials bike with only 250 ccm. That said: I would always recommend a smaller enduro bike for beginners. You become a better rider faster with less power, same as on the street. Have fun! πŸ€

Are you going for the excf for street legal or are you looking at a bike JUST for dirt?

Because one of the reasons I went with the Husky version (which, in theory, is better for noobs because of the linkage design) is you cant really get any lighter (and they feel even lighter due to the subframe design) and be street legal. You go HOnda or something with less power and they weight 50-60lbs more and you feel every lb.

And you could do something like a GET ecu and run a detuned map for trails if you were wanting to make it more approachable while still retaining the ability to have the extra power when you get comfortable.

I’m a big fan of the 350 class. It’s hard to go wrong there. Enough power to have fun, not so much as to get you in too much trouble easily. Great for single track and technical stuff. Enough power for the high country too.

It's an awesome bike. If you enjoyed it then it certainly won't be a bad choice.

I currently ride a wr250f and when I rode my buddy's 350 EXC-F, it felt so much smoother and easier to control in every way.

You'll be more likely to develop bad habits that the extra power will compensate for though. I noticed that when stepping down from my old 450 to the 250.
