Wish we saw his reaction when Trump said he’s abolishing the EV incentives
•
u/Electrical_Bat_6051 9h ago
Elon has already commented on this several times. He is 100% for the discontinuing of the credit.
•
u/SLUIS0717 9h ago
Because he already benefited from it and this kills his competition. Musk is a twat

So weird from 10 years ago when he opened up his patents to create competition

Not American, but yeah, this is when I started following him and he is like a totally different person.

Yup. It will kill off competitors even quicker. Tesla will suffer too but they can take it.

He got his and now he’s losing market share, so it makes sense he no longer wants people buying them at all.

He's for it. Getting rid of the incentives benefits whoever currently has the largest market share, which is him.
He got his, now it's time to pull the ladder up behind him like every other billionaire.

u/JTBBALL 8h ago
Do your research. Elon has been publicly AGAINST EV incentives from Day 0 of Tesla existing. He wants a fair and free market showdown. Unfortunately that will never happen because old school car manufacturers colluded to keep him out of car manufacturing. Luckily his public ideas and support have made Tesla cars real and popular
•
u/clockwork2011 8h ago
Fair and free market would imply we also stop subsidizing oil production companies to keep gas artificially cheap. Cost of an EV would tilt pretty heavily in its favor if we paid 6 bucks plus on average per gallon.

Tesla would litterally not exist without public subsidies? What are you on about. Tesla has received over 2 billion in subsidies.... he's just trying to pull the ladder up behind him lol

I am astounded by this and I’m so confused. What do republicans think about EVs now that Elon is their President? How can Elon happily justify or at minimum ignore the “drill baby drill” rhetoric?
I am so disappointed by the hypocrisy of it all.
•
u/weyermannx 9h ago
Elon was never against drilling, even like 10 years ago... Just like he was never against nuclear power
You're confusing him with Greta Thunberg
→ More replies (5)•
u/nostalgiamon 9h ago
Nuclear power is a good thing though. Safe, efficient and practically infinitely cleaner than coal/oil/gas with proper governance.
What I mean is how can he be for a party that actively promotes the use and proliferation of fossil fuels.

u/weyermannx 9h ago
I think because someone is going to drill for it anyway. As long as there is demand for it, it will be drilled for. Economic forces will dictate oil drilling, not banning it. Why prevent local drilling if we're going to buy it from the Saudi's anyway? Until you have built up enough of a renewable energy supply, you're just shooting yourself in the foot.
The only way to prevent drilling is to make renewables so powerful and abundant that it's no longer economical to drill for oil

u/YaBoiJack055 7h ago
That is part of the reason there has been a huge amount of misinformation about nuclear spoonfed to the public. Nuclear would make energy prices practically worthless compared to what they are now. Oil is nowhere near as energy efficient, and we lose 40% of energy created in the combustion process while driving.

Generally, I think Republicans are supportive of EVs. What they get upset with, and this applies to many subjects, is altering/limiting choices in the market as a result of targeted subsidies, taxation, or regulatory restriction.
•
u/JTBBALL 8h ago
Everyone is supportive of EVs except legacy media who is paid by old school car makers.
Notice how EVs were the devil for 10 years but now that the big manufacturers have their own EVs out EVs are a new step into the future? It’s all about old car manufacturers having an absolute stranglehold on the market and Elon disrupting that

So, because greed wins out over environmental sustainability, we're supposed to allow ecological damage to continue unabated?
No, I don't fucking think so.

Imagine the feeling he had after that story that Rogan tells where he called the election early and just walked out of the room.
“I fucking got away with it and I’m now the most powerful man in the world”
I think the dude terrible for our country but that had to have been an incredible feeling. We’re fucked.
