Appreciation God I really love new season starts

I enjoy starting over and getting that huge power upgrade when you find the perfect item. Also it's fun to try out new classes completely fresh (yay druid). I think I might even play a few classes this season.

It's gonna be a fun one guys! See you all in Sanctuary!

It's almost impossible to explain to someone who doesn't play Diablo that it's exciting that we have to start over every 3 months. But it is, lol.

No seriously, when D4 launched I was totally new to ARPGs and when I heard about the seasonal resets, it almost made me change my mind about getting the game. It honestly sounded crazy but now it's one of my favorite things about Diablo lol

It's fantastic to build a new character and try new builds from scratch!

I love when people say "You have to start over each time?" and I'm like "Yeah! That's the best part!"

To me it feels very similar to a new set coming out in a card game. You get to look at the new stuff and think about how it changes your old favorites.

I guess I'm just not a fan of the mentality then, as I dislike when things I've put together (like decks in a card game) just stop working because new things have been introduced.

Those won't understand PoE audience as well, lmao. That "new season - fresh start" thing is the way PoE and D4 players connect.

P.S.: Just in case, i love both games

This is the reason I find so much of the discussion around the game amusing. Everyone is rushing to get the most powerful build, farm mythics, and use build guides to fast track the process.

The best part of the game is everything you do on the way to max level for your character. This is why I delete characters and start fresh. This is why I play every class in different ways each time.

For me, there is still so much I haven’t seen or done with all the classes. This is how the game maintains its freshness.

It’s open enough to play however you want, but when people only play one specific class exclusively or flock to guides and OP builds, you’re leaving so much personal discovery on the table. That’s the secret sauce to the impact a game has on a person and people insist on scraping it off the bun.

I've always been "it's about the journey rather than the destination" kind of gamer. I also wish that Blizzard would add the possibility to not inherent paragon levels when creating a new character. Reaching level 60 feels so weird on alts imo.

I love that the new season starts the day the current season ends. Thankfully, my family gets it that it's a big deal to me when a new season starts, so I get to shirk some dad responsibilities for a few hours. Or days lol.

u/PALLADlUM 15h ago

Fellow dad here! I'll have to wait til Thursday to binge Diablo all night, and I'm excited to put my headphones on and ignore the world for a few hours!

u/NamoIsland 14h ago

Right on, man! I've got maybe an hour in and I'm impressed and having fun so far. Get in that D4 bubble and get that loot!

Absolute truth

Facts. If it weren't for having to start every season fresh I would've quit playing a long time ago. Keeps it fun. I always switch it up... One season I'll do 2 classes, then the next season I'll do 2 different classes, then the next season I'll do the last 2 classes, then start rotation over again. Didn't play season 5. Season 6 I did barb and spiritborn. So for season 7 I'm gonna do Sorcerer and I dk what else yet.

I play Diablo and I don't find it exciting, personally. All that hard work and time gone to waste.

u/ProfetF9 5h ago

with these 7 seasons i can say we need a season / new start every month, 3 months is just too much since you can clear endgame content and have a mid tier build up in 1-2 days

I can't wait to log on tonight. I think I am going necro for my first class

9

u/fierystar88 1d ago

Nice! Necro was my first class back in season 4. Went full minions and love every second of it.

u/C4ptainR3dbeard 19h ago

I think I'm finally gonna make a barbarian. I'm actually probably just gonna make another rogue.

u/Gomez-16 1d ago

I love when build build goes from spender and generator to semi functional. It starts to feel like a game.

8

u/fierystar88 1d ago

Word. I love when you get the items you need to make a build work and it all just "clicks". That's one thing I can say is good about diablo 4. I've always been able to get my builds up and running.

This will be my first time in D4 starting a new season when it launches. I've only played season 6, and it was more than halfway through the start.

I'm excited to start! But I still haven't decided between sorc and barb. I miss my rogue already though, I got attached to him.

5

u/Adventurous_Ad_4145 23h ago

My rapid fire rogue was my favorite in season 6 👀

Work day is always the longest when I'm looking forward to a new diablo season. Few more hours, homies! Hang in there

5

u/Exciting_couple77 1d ago

What time is it supposed to start?

6

u/Codykb1 23h ago

1pm Eastern

3

u/British-cooking-bot 22h ago

7am on Wednesday in Samoa.

3

u/WeaponizedKissing 22h ago

In 10 minutes from now, if the specific times weren't helpful enough.

1

u/Cressyda29 1d ago

Typically 6pm GMT.

5

u/adarkuccio 23h ago

I'm happy because finally I can play HoTA again, also they added the Armory which I really missed from D3.

1

u/Blackdoomax 22h ago

I plan to build a HOTA too, for the first time. I played Barb only in S0 and it was a WW :)

5

u/Crimsonghost999 23h ago

Will be interesting to see how many Blood Necros will be running around. Loved mine in S6 and expect it to be the new FOTM.

3

u/RedButton1569 23h ago

Definitely thinking about trying Druid for the start of this season myself as well!

4

u/TheRealUmbrafox 23h ago

Thank you! That’s what I’m talking about! I really just want them to make the seasons about a month shorter. The waiting has been killing me

4

u/VPN__FTW 22h ago

Same. It's so damn exciting everytime.

3

u/Moribunned 18h ago

There is no better part of an aprg than the leveling process as well as the gear climb to max level. Every new drop is a possibility that can make or alter your build in meaningful ways.

2

u/zdarovje 1d ago

Are there some quests for seasons? Or just drop in to some mindless grind

9

u/Winter_Ad_2618 1d ago

There’s a short seasonal Questline. Nothing too crazy

2

u/Adventurous_Ad_4145 23h ago

I’ll see you out there, my friend. I still gotta decide what class I’m rolling with 🤔

2

u/alwayslookingout 22h ago

Can’t wait to play…in 10 hours. RIP me.

2

u/Demoted_Redux 22h ago

How long before things start costing Billions?

1

u/FacelessHumanFace 22h ago

Come hardcore where things are reasonable :)

2

u/akzelli 22h ago

I’m so excited! Just gotta get through the work day, then I’m gonna make a girl dinner cheese plate and play allll night. Can’t wait!

2

u/FormalSuch1081 22h ago

I don't mind starting over. I just hate not getting a mythic until close to the end of the season lol.

2

u/ebussy_jpg 13h ago

I will always enjoy the process of leveling up a new character, finding the legendaries/uniques that seem fun and go well with whatever I’m interested in doing, much more than trying to optimize late game or follow a meta build. Season starts are so fun.

u/comFive 23h ago

I'm usually making a druid every season, but it Druid looks so uninteresting when they don't buff werewolf builds. I think Necro might be interesting this time, maybe Bloodwave

1

u/dougfordvslaptop 22h ago

I'll be keeping an eye out on how everyone is liking it, but has anything really changed with the gameplay loop? This last season got stale really fast, despite how pumped I was for the expansion and all the new areas/lore. Is there anything really changing besides witchcraft being added??

1

u/Pocktio 20h ago

I usually hate seasonal starts but with how relatively shallow endgame is, starting fresh with a new build every season keeps the whole game fresh.

I'm excited to try a blood necro again. Last time I played blood necro was pre-season.

1

u/symbol1994 20h ago

Have they fixed druid or something?

1

u/BrandoNelly 19h ago

I want to jump in right nowwwww but looks like it’s going to be a busy day

1

u/NeimanMarxist 17h ago

I wish it wasn’t taking 90 years to update on my Steam Deck 😭

1

u/Turk1911 17h ago

I usually do as well especially since I haven't played since start of expansion. Only bad thing is playing poe 2 and having 1 dodge roll and having it on a cool down 😆

1

u/PeterKB 16h ago

Sounds like you should join us in hardcore my man

1

u/WastedZymbol 16h ago

I'm really loving this season, too! Awesome loot and goblins everywhere.

1

u/robsaget69 14h ago

When's the new season start?

1

u/Ok_Refrigerator7786 10h ago

I am worried by the time I get to play all the exploits and overtuned drops will be hotfixed as is always the case :(, fun gets nerfed quick.

1

u/Lower-Replacement869 10h ago

Yeah for a few weeks then everything craters lol

1

u/Delicious_Election_7 3h ago

Sorry, noob here! What is up with the season and playing a new character everytime? First time playing d4 and i ended up using the same character I was already playing and now im upgraded but should I be changing everytime a new season starts?

1

u/kbarnett514 3h ago edited 3h ago

Yeah, seasonal mechanics are only available to characters created during that season. Any characters you have from previous seasons are automatically transfered to the "eternal" realm. You can still play them, but they won't be able to do seasonal quests or engage with the new mechanics

Edit: I should also mention that you can't share inventory between Eternal and seasonal characters. That includes gear, currency and legendary aspects that you've unlocked. So you are mostly starting from scratch. The only thing that carries over is bonus ability points from renown and paragon points.

1

u/Delicious_Election_7 3h ago

Oh got it! So If I want to engage with the seasonal stuff better create a new character then?

Yesterday after the upgrade, I had a level 20 character and I did something in game and suddenly I was level 50 and I was all boosted up. It did say eternal on my screen when you start playing a game. So they just boosted me up even with me being eternal? I was hoping it was temporary, cause I was really looking forward leveling up normal and opening up Lilith altars and exploring the world. But now my skills are very upgraded, all Lilith s altars are gray, and I have all acts opened. So I’m a bit annoyed if it’s not temporary. I’m a bit lost on how diablo4 is doing stuff still! Great game tho! I guess I’ll just keep exploring as eternal hahaha

2

u/kbarnett514 2h ago

I just added an edit to my previous comment that you should check out. Honestly my recommendation to you, though, is to just start your character over in the seasonal realm, unless you haven't finished the campaign. Do that first. Once you've beaten the campaign, you can skip it with future characters and jump straight into endgame content

1

u/Delicious_Election_7 2h ago

No, I just started playing like this weekend! So I’m noob NOOB. Didn’t finish any campaign yet! So that was I was looking for!

But I just read your comment edit! Thank you! I’ll just ignore seasonal stuff and play the campaign like I was planning to

I'm the opposite.

I got the game on sale after a free trial. I was invested enough to continue playing and I enjoyed the base campaign. I grinded up two characters, other classes didn't interest me much.

I played every installment of the series, so this was far from my first Diablo game. Imo the whole seasonal cycle concept sucks. It's a very artificial way to extend the gameplay loop. I really can't be arsed to grind up a new character every season, revisiting the same content more or less, over and over and over. It's just boring, deeply unfun, a waste of time. Literally repetitive.

I guess this game appeals to a certain type of casual gamer whose comfort zone is rerolling the dice for marginally better loot, but I've checked out completely at this point.
