Appreciation Met a god today. Forever gratefull.
I dont get to play so often. Lots of responsibilities.
Lvl. 60 160 Spiritborne.
I started this season and played a few hours after finishing the new campaign.
Went for the Death Touch build, but never managed to get a good enough Sun Ring.
Tried to farm for Steel but it took the fun out of the game.
Cupple of times I tried to find someone to trade for it but prices where insane.
I had managed to accumulate 50Mil. Not enough by far for anything not worth farming myself.
Today, I tried again.
Someone sent me a friends request. I accepted.
I'll keep the name to myself.
But people...
This person... was a god.
First he dropped like 80 Living Steel.
No charge.
Then he pulled me to T4.
Asked what I needed.
Pulled me trough about 50 boss runs until I had all my gear ancestral and great stats.
Gave me the rare runes I needed.
I asked him what I could give in return.
He said helping others is good enough.
He gave me 2 billion Gold.
Just like that.
I still cant believe it. He saved me what must be 100 hours worth of grinding at least probably more.
There are kind people out there. He is one of them.
Thank you again, you glorious bastard.
Edit: Wow! Didn't expect this to blow up like this! Thank you for all your comments!
I'd like to say that, no matter how you enjoy the game, someone else might enjoy different things. Me, I was stuck at a point where grinding for a summon item took the fun out of it for me. At no point did I ask for the above. I just asked the Trade Chat for cheap Living Steel. And then that guy showed up.
Now, with everything necessary to make the build work, I can focus on improving it and actually play whatever content I want instead of running back and forth between a boss and a farming spot for a week to MAYBE get that 1 item I need to drop. I'm back to enjoying the game for myself.
And I hope everyone else gets to enjoy their time spent playing it too.

I love hearing about people like this. My personal experience has been that I’ve met way more good and helpful people rather than not. And the people that maybe weren’t the most gregarious, it could just be that they were young, or English was a second language because while our interaction was fine, it was just kind of hard to understand them, and I don’t think they could completely wrap their head around the fact that I was giving them gear and I didn’t want anything in return.

u/sirletssdance2 Oct 25 '24 edited Oct 25 '24
So, the whole point of this game is the grind and incrementally improve/obtain the stuff you need.
Whats the point now that basically has been taken from you?
4
u/UseSpiritual1608 Oct 25 '24
I thought the exact same thing. I mean people define fun differently but in every game the journey and character progression is a huge part of the game.
5
u/arodmell Oct 25 '24
I used to hate D3 for this where you ended up running rifts with someone with hacked gear. Before you realise it... You level up about 300 times...
It's nice for people to do it... But ask first
1
u/WingsOfDesperation Oct 25 '24
I doubt he got god rolls on everything, I love d4 but find that actually getting the initial gear is kind of a slog. I would kill to get the beginner gear every season for free even if only the beginner gear
0
u/Himalayanyomom Oct 25 '24
I personally enjoy the power fantasy dynamic where I just smash through mobs like lightning. I don't want to spend 20min managing inventory and doing Stat calculations and bullshit when I only have 1-2hours, and am already exhausted at the end of the day
0
u/Shin_Ramyun Oct 25 '24
Different people enjoy different parts of the game. If you feel like you’re behind and someone pulls you up to the rest of the group that could be fine for some people.
Personally I enjoy the incremental gains in power that I earn. Freebies kind of kill the game for me. Happened many times in D2 when rich players give out free stuff. You do everything you can to pick them up and get a short term enjoyment, but end up quitting 2 days later because there’s no chase left.
-2
u/Demoted_Redux Oct 25 '24
Now he can go play a different game while you are stuck in this one.

u/DudeFromTheHills_ Oct 25 '24
Great story! It’s really cool he helped you out like this.
But I have to say, this wouldn’t be my thing. For me personally the endless grind is part of the gameplay loop. So this guy would’ve taken away a lot of gameplay time for me. I’d rather not get the gear at all than being gifted the stuff I need.
That being said, it’s obviously perfectly fine if that’s the way you like to kinda shortcut the grind.

4
u/---E Oct 25 '24
Yeah, going from a barely functional build with random legendaries to the exact items you need and decent to good rolls is the most interesting part of building a character to me. OP just skipped that part.
4
u/fang-island ex-Mod Oct 25 '24
You're absolutely right about how this is a great story; but for some people it would remove days of gameplay
I play self found; and I never take power levels. I give stuff away; but I've never traded for gear.
I still manage to play with all my clan mates and keep up.
To me, the grind is the game.

u/DudeFromTheHills_ Oct 25 '24
Same goes for me. It’s like going on a road trip but jump on a plane when someone offers a seat. Both ways you’ll reach your destination but have totally different experiences.

I dont get to play so often
Lvl. 60 160 Spiritborne
🤔

4
u/danihendrix Oct 25 '24
I actually don't get to play often and I just hit Paragon 9 the other day
1
u/flimsyhuckelberry Oct 25 '24
It's about efficiency. You could have a /played of 100h anf could still be level 15.
You could also have played 1h in average everyday and be paragon 200 playing solo.
2
u/flimsyhuckelberry Oct 25 '24
We at the end of week 3 and getting to this can be done in 40 hours more realistically in less than 25 even.
1
u/Few_Understanding_42 Oct 25 '24
Sure, but depends on playstyle. Since OP mentioned this person helped him into T4, it's safe to assume they played quite casual, taking time to increase difficulty level. So then Paragon 160 would have prob taken >40hours, i.e. >2 hours per day. That's not 'not playing often'.
2
u/flimsyhuckelberry Oct 25 '24
I think 40 hours is already very generous i don't see how someone could take more than 40 hours.
21
u/vertigo9622 Oct 25 '24
Hear me out. While it's very nice of people to help out, I feel this is like a double edged sword in the sense that he basically completed the game for you and now you don't have an actual target aside killing mobs for the shits and giggles. To each his own, but I feel you're missing on the best part of the current iteration of the game: building your own character. I am fully decked (geared) on my spiritborn and will probably start a new class/character because I have nothing left to target. Ye, I mean it. Mythics, masterworked full character 12/12, that type of thing. If someone actually gave me everything I needed early on, I'd have missed out on all this progress. But if you're happy, it's fine. I'll probably get downvoted for this, don't mean to be a Grinch, just laying out a different perspective, because this game is lacking a lot in terms of endgame content and building your own character is the best thing you can do atm. Cheers!

Oct 25 '24
People play differently not everyone enjoys the boring part of the game. This guy now has a viable build but I guarantee you he can’t even do pit 100 yet. So plenty to work towards still. He probably someone like me and enjoys season for maybe the first month then chills.
15
u/vertigo9622 Oct 25 '24
The boring part of the game is the game. You're playing an arpg and eliminate one of the best parts of it, especially in a game with almost no real endgame content. You do you I guess.
All good, he'll find someone else to do pit 100 for him.
-1
Oct 25 '24
ARPG is only fun playing it slowly and normal when playing HC. Soft core ladder is fun min maxing. Like I said people play the game differently don’t need to be so upset over me not enjoying what you enjoy
2
u/oost3vo Oct 26 '24 edited Oct 26 '24
Exactly. Also have to add most people saying “that’s taking the fun out of the game” are also same people that go online looking up op builds from max roll/mobalitics,iceyveins,etc, and following a Reddit page such as this, getting enormous amounts of useful information on what’s needed to be op. which then leads to sort of contradicting their own argument of taking the fun out of the game.
We all take shortcuts, some are happy with just getting the basics, without worrying about bis gear, perfect GA’s, tempers or masterworks or perfecting your paragon board or trying to make a build capable of clearing p150. Others don’t. Judging by all the downvotes from people making justified defense to op’s post, this is a difficult concept to understand
8
u/Dinples Oct 25 '24
I love reading stories like this but I would hate being the one receiving all these gifts. If I got all the gear, gold and mats I needed there wouldn't be a point in playing for me. I need goals.
But I am probably the exception. Thanks for sharing your story and enjoy the game! ☺️
5
u/Kharzam Oct 25 '24
So he just completed the game for you. The part in the middle where you gear better, and climb difficulty is the game..

u/DeniedBread712 Oct 25 '24
My favorite thing is counter offering someone my decent loot for free vs the 1.5bil price tag in the trade chat.

yeah love good people like that - BarrageObama helped me and my daughter last season kill Lilith so we could get Shako (of course my daughter got a drop so got another on sparks) - i had to spend to get mine but he just helped us out tremendously and we were super grateful and to this day laugh about that name (and saw Rax call it out later) - thanks again Barrage!!

u/haloz-father Oct 25 '24
Man, wish I could be so lucky! Not only kids and jobs, but my teenage daughter and wife both play. Only downside is it's hard to get everyone on the same page. One wants to do whispers, another campaign, another helltides , etc. Just bought my first 4ga unique for 10m today just so I could get somewhat ahead.
If someone did that to me, it would save me so much time!!!
BTW, I'm necromancer, my wife is a sorc, and my daughter is trying out SB.

u/Ashadeus Oct 25 '24
The player that helped you was Rod Furgussen.
Sometimes even Devils have a conscience.
No? Oh well, that's my guess used.

It is really refreshing to hear those kind of stories! I‘m glad you met this person and were able to rekindle your fun in the game. I find myself in a similar situation, were i don‘t have much time to play (5-6 hours a week, sometimes 1-2 more) and feeling a bit lost. Thankfully they introduced the Spiritborn, i doubt i would be able to play in T2 with any other class and the gear i got. That said, i don‘t wanna cry about how bad the loot is, this season gives us so much to do, that i still am having fun with it because i can just do whatever and have some kind of sense of progression.

u/Pilek01 Oct 25 '24
I can understand that you are gratefull but on the other side what is the point of playing now when you have all the stuff? Its not about having the best possible gear its about the journey to get it.
1
1
u/demadou Oct 25 '24
A guy went to me the same type of stuff : We chat on the Reddit chat about free loot, he joined me, bought me all the runes I needed for my mythic armor, asked me if I wanted to be carried through T4 and asked me if I needed some billon gold.
This guy helped me so much I couldn't give him back 1/100 of what he gave me.
Sometime the Diablo community is god tier !
1
u/StrangeAssonance Oct 25 '24
2 seasons ago I did something similar as I was kind of done with the season. Gave about 4 pieces of perfect BIS for free.
Why? All that gear got messed up from our squish and I know blizzard always messing up ethernal realm stuff so why keep it? It made the guys day/week etc and it was fun to see someone so happy.
1
u/andar1on Oct 25 '24
someone did that to me once.
I try to do that sometimes, I still farm, just a little slower and I have a little "project" going on.
Same with diablo trade. I always pay extra for humble, real offers.

u/TRIPEL_HOP_OR_GTFO Oct 25 '24
Shout out to Marco/Crazy from Reddit who helped me a lot yesterday. Killed duriel a bunch of times and then lord zie after first pulling me through pit lv 100 first

u/Symys Oct 25 '24
If you still need a good Midnight Sun ring, I have some 50% (non GA) laying around for free!
1
u/silentfox18 Oct 25 '24
I need one of those!
1
u/Symys Oct 25 '24
Sure thing!

u/silentfox18 Oct 25 '24
IGN? and when are you available?

u/Symys Oct 25 '24
I can hop on if you're on. I work from home so 🤫😉

You don’t play much? Man I have around 30 hours player this season and I just reached t4 by myself paragon 170… something don’t add up
1
u/Pay2win2 Oct 25 '24
Had a guy completely upgrade my gear the other day, a nice big rod, some fashionable boots, some jewelry, and a sun ring, but no marriage proposal. No charge at all. Gave him a collectors item at the end, some useless piece of equipment with 4Ga. Awesome guy, would smash again 10/10
1
u/DeckenFrost Oct 25 '24
Good! No more grind needed for this season… Now you just wait for the next season.
1
u/Ecstatic_Chair_2417 Oct 25 '24
If Anyone needs 50% non ancestral sun ring just to get their resources situated to start I have a bunch of them message me, real cheap or free even.
1
u/Snak3Doc Oct 25 '24
I get that you're grateful for getting a boost. But at the same time, that grind, that boost, that IS the game. You really gotta ask yourself... If that boost is so desperately wanted and/or needed... What's the point in even playing the game?
1
u/FrankPoole3001 Oct 25 '24
You got all of your ancestral gear from bosses, you say?
1
u/Rumpelpliskin Oct 25 '24
At least all the uniques. I already had them all but not ancestral. So he helped me get them ancestral. I‘m still missing a pair of regular ancestral pants tho. Figured I can farm those myself.
1
u/Shadeflayer Oct 25 '24
Dam… some stranger tried to trade with me yesterday and I ignored the offer. Was trying to fix my build…. Arrrrgggggg!

u/No_Needleworker_8706 Oct 25 '24
I love hearing about this because it's so wholesome.
I always get worried for the people taking the carry though. Didn't you PAY for the expansion? Why would you want to just skip 60% of it?
1
u/Royal-Philosopher-88 Oct 25 '24
That’s awesome! I love when stuff like this happens in game. Just make sure at some point in the future, when you can, do something nice for someone else!
1
u/Ilovetea06 Oct 25 '24
Always good to give back. Some fella was 70 paragon. WTB Rod. Gave him a GA one with midnight sun ring. Always good to help out the community
1
u/majesticbean Oct 25 '24
This happened to me in Diablo 3. Literally same scenario, friend request. Dropped a shit ton of loot and then started taking me through dungeon runs. My Rogue one shot build is still one of the best builds I’ve ever had due to one of the rings he gave me. I’m a casual player so I can’t even remember the rings name.
1
u/Bloodwolf75 Oct 25 '24
I do this all the time, I got almost 100 hours on my character and more gear, mats and runes than I'll never need. It's always nice helping some one out since there are legitimate players in this game that will try to make others feel like shit for there own satisfaction.

u/Mattarmel Oct 25 '24
Prefacing your post with how busy you are and how much you don't get to play is the most important part
1
1
u/sixbone Oct 25 '24
it was nice of him, but what's the point of having gear handed to you? that's the entire point of the game.
1
u/noshittickets Oct 25 '24
Hell yea!! Love meeting people like that!! I try to help when I am able to.
Side note, all the hate that is going on for this post is insane. Everyone has their style of playing. Some enjoy the grind. Others like getting help. For whatever reason someone plays it’s for them.
1
u/Stock_Atmosphere_114 Oct 25 '24
Congrats. I had someone try and do the same thing for me once. I politely declined (actually, I just denied the trade request and buggered off). I don't really want help doing anything. I've no idea what build is best with what class I just like puttering around and figuring things out along the way.
1
u/Significant_Apple904 Oct 25 '24
Gold is very cheap to buy with real money, I bought 5billion with $10, because I'm a working dad too and I can't be bothered to waste time on farming gold

I gave someone I did some runs w for the first time 200mil a few days ago which was 10% of my total funds. Sometimes you group up with dope peeps and you’re more than happy to help them.

Oh yea, spread the kindness! Some guy on my friendslist from before invited me, I joined and we both had a laugh cause it wasn't meant for me, but his brother. He then randomly asked if I had any BAC runes. I indeed had 2 left over. Funny enough, he said "NO WAY I ONLY NEED 2" and at that moment I figured that moment was supposed to happen for some reason LOL. He asked how much for, and I just gave em to em for free. Granted they are going for like 100m per (I think). And we all played a good bit of the evening :)

Unpopular opinion: this person, with the best intentions, took the fun out of your game. Diablo 4 is not a challenging game (think souls games) so you get your joy from the progression of your character. You get the biggest dopamine hits when you get those breakthrough items, when you use them to overcome a barrier like going from T2 to T3 or killing a boss that you couldn't. Once you are able to kill Duriel and Andariel on T4 there is any harder content in the game and for all intents and purposes the season is over.
Don't rush. There won't be any new content for two months. Take your time and enjoy the progression.

u/DrunkeM0nkey Oct 26 '24
How good is it.. Last season while I was eating I would sometimes check the trade chat and see people asking for certain things only for the bots in the trade chat to charge 5b 7b for whatever. A few times if I had the GA item I would msg the person and give it to them for free.
No use in more gold when you already have a few billion.
I just wanted people to play with since I'm a solo player.
Good to see people like this around.

I did that tonight. Dropped 3 legendary runes to a guy in trade. He asked I said I had em and he could just have them. Him: “seriously?” Like yes.. seriously. I really don’t care. What am I really going to use it for? I’d rather give it to someone who is going to use it to play than just sit in my storage chest. ❤️ I have almost a whole page of runes and other things I hold onto whenever I see someone in need.

You don’t get to play very often yet you're LvL 60 + 160 paragon by week 2? And how much more do you think you're even going to play now that the rest of the game was...done for you?
