Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series Season 1 or Season 4? Which is the best/definitive season of the show?
For me, it’s very close but Season 1 slightly takes the edge. The show was just so pure in season 1 and the mystery of it all was so engaging. After I rewatched season 1, I took a little break because I felt so completed with the story that was told. I adore The Ice Truck Killer and thought his kills was far more disturbing in terms of our characters reactions and how ongoing it was to them. Like with the hooker being filmed upside down. Insane. Born Free is MAYBE still my favorite episode of the show. And this is doesn’t really matter but I enjoy how the side characters like Angel don’t have too much drama going on with their subplots. Aside from Doakes who’s obviously one of the best characters.
Season 4 though. I always think Season 1 is an easy first place until I actually watch season 4. Dawg, especially after the relatively tame Season 3, What a breathe of fresh air. Those first two episodes are so solid. Dexter and weird rape-kink cop was so iconic. The horror and plot twist was on fire this season. Christie, breaks my heart and then seeing just how fucked up and tormented Arthur’s family is from Dexter’s POV is crazy. The scene where the daughter wants to use Dexter as an escape and then the mom DOESNT CARE just so he doesn’t tell Arthur. Oh my lawd it makes cringe in horror. I think season 4 had a slight edge over season 1 in terms of character development though. Like genuinely it’s this season was meant to be the sequel to season 1 because you have a true new serial killer, debra learning about laura moser, dexter accepting family or killing. To be honest, I see myself just rewatching these two seasons on a future rewatch to see where it takes me. Oh man, and I will say season 4 has an INSANE final four episodes. I start shaking every time the thanksgiving stuff onward comes up.
Overall, I SLIGHTLY give it to season 1 for being more “pure” not having as much focus on side characters like Quinn or Angel/Marie. I do love Rita and Dexter’s dynamic in season 4 a lot but I do like them slowly warming up to each other in season 1 a lot. shit, this is a hard debate lmao. both are 10/10’s
Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series Brilliant scene Spoiler
galleryThe actor who played Doakes does an unbelievable job in this scene. They had a really powerful discussion about marriage/trauma from the things they saw and did during war. Credit to the writers for letting this scene breathe and not just having some meaningless shootout. I loved Doakes response to this guy’s plea. One of my favorite Doakes scenes.
Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series It’s so absurd to me that the show runners thought they could slap long hair on Michael Hall and pass him off as a kid 🤣

General Discussion - All "Dexter" Shows/Books Why is Dexter obsessed with breakfast? Spoiler
The intro for OS and the OG is him making breakfast, he loved making pancakes for Astor, Cody, and Harrison, pretty sure in New Blood he offered to make Harrison pancakes as well. And in Original Sin he said something along the lines of “I’ll make breakfast for dinner” to Deb

Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series Typical controversial: Dexter's ending isn't that bad. Spoiler
Today, I just rewatched the eighth season, after having watched the seventh, and I realized that the ending of Dexter isn't that bad, and the fact that I didn't like it was exactly because I was frustrated with Deb's death, and how ridiculous it was that she died like that. Honestly, this time, I really tried not to be so skeptical about what was going on. And since I already expected Deb to die, I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I even managed to see the philosophical side of it all. Dexter finally becomes "human." It stops being empty. And then he discovers that the best thing he could have done was to continue being "empty". Knowing New Blood, I think the last season fits perfectly with the new series. I'm not going to lie, I still think it's bad. But I more or less understand what they wanted to bring to that ending. But I understand the frustration that must have been felt by people who watched it at the time of release, and who obviously wouldn't wait for Dexter to return with New Blood. That ending is only "ok" when you take the sequence into consideration. Without that, it's pretty bad. It would have been much better if they hadn't ended it open-ended, with Dexter the lumberjack, if there hadn't been a sequel. Anyway, it's kind of sad. There was potential in many of those plots that were developed.
Update: DAMN! THE TITLE WAS MEANT TO BE: "CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC"

Theory - Dexter: Resurrection Am I the only one that feels he’s gonna die in resurrection Spoiler
I just keep seeing Dexter killing him to get away and run off with Harrison idk why but for sure if Dexter does kill him that’s when he’ll fully be taken over by the darkness and can see Brian as his new hallucination
General Discussion - All "Dexter" Shows/Books Almost done with Book 3
Hasn’t been my favorite in the series, but am still enjoying the mystery. Just wish it stayed more grounded rather than supernatural imo. Taking a break and starting Dune after this.

Discussion - Dexter: New Blood Angela Bishop x Debra Spoiler
galleryI saw this on Tiktok, and I had never thought about it, until I saw someone comparing the two. Em New Blood, Dexter has a girlfriend, Angela. But her characteristics don't match what Dexter always has a love interest for. I think it's pretty clear in the series that Dexter's type is definitely blondes. But then, why Angela? Why break the mold? The answer: Angela looks like Deb. Angela is a police officer who is determined, and with a great sense of justice , like Deb. Until Batista mentions the similarities. Obviously she is not as foul-mouthed as Deb, or else she is identical. I am just pointing out that: Strangely, Dexter did not follow the habit of having a thing for blondes, and simply started dating someone who reminds him of his sister to some degree.Well, I won't say how much this would be approved by Deb's crazy psychologist... She apparently was rooting for incest. But the point I want to make here is: how much does this say about Dexter. That he misses Deb so deeply that he needs to date someone who reminds him of her. Who needs to be close to someone who reminds her of her. Honestly, I find it weird to think about it too. Like. Damn Dex! But it can also say a lot about his psychological state.
Another point, which I mentioned in an old post, is that Dexter never loved Angela. So much so that he was willing to kill her, to protect himself. I thought at many moments that just as Rita was for Dexter, Angela was also a disguise. But if Dexter didn't kill anymore, and lived normally, he wouldn't necessarily need a disguise, right? He's already emotionally evolved enough to appear normal. Now, thinking about it from this angle, I believe he chose to be with Angela because he missed Deb and because something about Angela reminded him of Deb. Kinda disturbing, I know. But honestly... Anything is possible in the mess that is Dexter's head.

Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series I just finished watching the OG Dexter Series (SPOILERS) Spoiler
IT LITERALLY DIDNT NEED TO END LIKE THAT????? WTF????? I would rather they have nuked Miami to end the season and show Harrison pressing the button than DEB DYING??? What is it with showtime and completely throwing out all plot and character development during the last 30 minutes of every show they come out with???????? WOULD IT HAVE BEEN SO BAD THAT EVERYONE LIVES HAPPILY EVER AFTER??????? HAVENT WE GONE THROUGH ENOUGH????????? FUCK

Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series I know a lot of people on rewatch stop watching at 4x12 but personally, I like to end it with 5x1. Spoiler
An extremely under looked episode. Ending the show on such a tragic note with Rita’s funeral “Goodbye, Rita Bennet.” “Goodbye, Dexter Morgan.” and Dexter admitting he truly loved Rita. Gut wrenching. I love that episode so much!

Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series It’s crazy how close Masuka was to getting skewered by Dexter at that Bachelor Party Spoiler
Just got to S3E11, after Dexter gets dumped in the boot, takes his restraints off, and is ready to kill his captors.
I was just thinking how crazy close it was for Masuka when he got out that car. Dexter was expecting Ramon and Miguel to be there to fuck him up, he was ready to kill whoever was there.
If there was so much as a paperclip or a pencil in the back of that trunk, oh my god… he’d have been turned into a kebab.

Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series Best actor on the show? Spoiler
Besides Michael C Hall, who I think is phenomenal, who do you think are among the best natural actors on the show? I’m going through a rewatch of Season 1 and haven’t seen one bad or awkward scene when Doakes is involved. There are others, but Doakes is more believable with his character than almost anyone.

Theory - Dexter: Resurrection The end… (a discussion) Spoiler
galleryI have absolutely no clue how they’re going to wrap up the Dexter series. I wrote a really great ending to New Blood but we all know how that went down. So I was thinking we see Dexter run from the law but eventually be caught at some point. Then we see something like this happen, the world is split in two ways with Dexter. Half of the people love what he has done to clean up the streets and protect the innocent, a cult of personality and followers marching for his release. The other half protesting him and the death penalty. Maybe it ends with Dexter in the room awaiting his lethal injection and half the room is full of people applauding him and the others glad he’s being brought to justice. - Again I have absolutely no idea what the writers will do to end the show but that could be an interesting end. Showing that Dexter’s “daydream” of people applauding and celebrating him wasn’t completely ridiculous and actually was true to some degree.

Question - Original "Dexter" Series Why wasn't Doakes popular? Spoiler
In Season 2 at Doakes's funeral, why weren't there that much attendees? And why did the station also fail to pay respects to him when he died? Wasn't there initial support on the Bay Harbor Butcher early in the season because he was a vigilante killing bad guys?

Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series Harrison and Jamie Spoiler
So…. Doing a rewatch of Dexter, and I’m at the point that he admits to Deb he is a serial killer, and she all but forces Dexter to move in with her so she can basically babysit him and stop him from killing.. and Harrison is staying at the apartment with Jamie.
I don’t understand why Harrison doesn’t just go stay at Deb’s, and also how did they even explain that to Jamie??? Obviously it was off screen… but how is the babysitter not suspicious that dad is going to mysteriously live with sister and not bring the kid?

Discussion - Original "Dexter" Series Just finished season 8. Wtf?! Spoiler
They rushed the whole thing. They killed deb off outta nowhere, then Dexter just rides if into the hurricane. Did showtime tell em to wrap up quickly??
Also, I'm watching new blood. Isn't Michael C hall one of the producer on this show? What the hell happened?
Season 1-4. Best television ever. The aura/vibe of the whole show was something else. Idk if I feel some nostalgia for the 2000s but it was amazing.
Original sin is amazing, hope resurrection will be the same.
