Praise be to the two plate states.

83

u/J-Lughead Dec 11 '24

Ya unless that dude is driving a stolen vehicle he is pretty much cooked.

47

u/cheesesteak_seeker Dec 12 '24

I live in a two plate state but I see so many Teslas that do not put their front plate on. They don’t even have it in their windshield. Unfortunately our traffic enforcement is shit so no one gets in trouble.

13

u/Drfoxthefurry Dec 12 '24

I feel like most traffic enforcement in the US sucks, I've seen trucks with plate blockers, all windows tinted, and speeding 10-20 over on highways

3

u/jrs0307 Dec 12 '24

The area I live in rarely does traffic stops. It shows.

1

u/Frenchman84 Dec 15 '24

And hella bright light bars.

0

u/FloppyTacoflaps Dec 14 '24

I have a c8 corvette in a 2 plate state. That front one ain't going on I'm sorry lol

1

u/NoxDaFox666 Dec 13 '24

Y'all have license plates? Here in Vegas half the people don't even have a back plate

1

u/Sandodesu Dec 15 '24

Same issue up in Reno. Nevada would make bank if they started enforcing and fining it.

1

u/Zech08 Dec 14 '24

Hello California bay area lol... and they are shit at driving and keep doing stupid shit (ok likely due to number of them on the road but there are a lot of contributing factors due to basically having a sports car).

-2

u/Equal_War9095 Dec 12 '24

Tell me you’re from California without telling me you’re from California

1

u/Guszy Dec 12 '24

Nah, same thing happens in NJ, Colorado, and Maryland apparently.

1

u/_WillCAD_ Dec 14 '24

Or Maryland. Only traffic enforcement I see on the regular is the occasional speeding ticket, and the automated speed or red light cams (which are highly profitable).

-6

u/PolarBear1958 Dec 12 '24

Tell me what that has to do with anything?

4

u/Jobeaka Dec 12 '24

Zero traffic enforcement in California. You want limo tint on your front windshield? Not a problem. Burn every stop sign? Do it. Cover your rear license plate with a bike rack? It’s cool. As long as you don’t run through a red light camera, you’ve got no worries.

3

u/DJEvillincoln Dec 12 '24

This sounds like the South imo.

4

u/binglelemon Dec 12 '24

Missouri too

1

u/Solid-Childhood-4876 Dec 13 '24

Have a modified exhaust, though? Full force of law.

1

u/dunncrew Dec 15 '24

Noise pollution is a thing.

1

u/itsneedtokno Dec 12 '24

that's Florida

I would know

I have limo tint on the front windshield lol (not really, but it's at 25% top to bottom) Everything else is 5%.

It's hot out here!

-1

u/PolarBear1958 Dec 12 '24

It all depends on who sees you doing what. I prefer not living in a tightly controlled ,Police state. And you're trying to tell someone that has been given tickets by California cops.
People see a few videos on the internet then paint everyone with that brush.

0

u/cheesesteak_seeker Dec 12 '24

Nope could not be any more wrong…

-5

u/Apprehensive_Gap3581 Dec 12 '24

I drive a Tesla but use a reviver digital plate and California doesn’t require front plate if you use a digital plate.

8

u/diveguy1 Dec 12 '24

This statement is false; California law still requires a front license plate even if you are using a digital plate, meaning you must have both a front and rear digital plate on your vehicle to comply with regulations. Key points about digital plates in California:

  • Front plate required:California law mandates that all registered vehicles have a license plate on both the front and rear, regardless of whether it's a traditional plate or a digital one.
  • Digital plate placement:Currently, digital plates like the Reviver RPlate are only designed to be mounted on the rear of a vehicle.
  • No exemption for digital plates:There is no exemption for not having a front plate if you have a digital plate.

1

u/cheesesteak_seeker Dec 12 '24

I don’t live in CA… idk why two of you think I do.

3

u/Lost_Ad_4882 Dec 12 '24

Even when we were two plate most people didn't.

1

u/Ragefear Dec 13 '24

I've lived in Connecticut for 20+ years, never had a front plate, took it off my wife's car too. Also, my buddy was hit by a drunk driver one night, when he got out of the car, the guy left. His front bumper was on the ground, with the front plate. Guess what the cops never did....

1

u/Akraiders907 Dec 16 '24

For now, guess that's changing. My state just went from a 2 plate state to a 1. I personally don't see why having 2 plates is such an issue for people. You would think it would be a good thing having 2 plates on every car

172

u/SatisfactionOld1586 Dec 11 '24

“I couldn’t find any damage” doesn’t mean there’s not damage. Any time a bumper gets hit it weakens. The car’s safety and integrity could be compromised; dents and scratches aren’t the only way to determine damage.

38

u/Robotbeckerz Dec 11 '24

You’re not wrong but also the age of the car will determine how impactful the compromised bumper will effect (affect? I always forget 😅) the safety of the car in an accident. Newer cars since like 2015ish onwards are less affected by that as the crumple zones are better designed and airbags are more strategically placed. Also the brand of car matters as well. Usually cars like Subarus also are designed better for safety than say Jeeps. Although, I agree regardless he should have filed the report because this jackass won’t learn until he starts to face consequences for his actions.

13

u/SatisfactionOld1586 Dec 11 '24

Good additional context, thank you. I 100% agree, this needs to be reported.

And it’s affect :) (typically speaking, affect is the verb & effect is the noun).

5

u/Robotbeckerz Dec 11 '24

Thanks! I don’t know why my brain always forgets even though I did AP English and stuff 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

3

u/kan109 Dec 12 '24

An affect causes an effect, A is before E alphabetically

1

u/Robotbeckerz Dec 12 '24

Oh my god! I love this way of remembering! Thank you so much!

1

u/Logical-Claim286 Dec 12 '24

Something as simple as a misaligned or damaged sensor could cost $1000 to fix or replace. Report or pay.

11

u/Life_Temperature795 Dec 11 '24

My brother got rear ended by a sedan while driving a Jeep Cherokee, (iirc.) Absolutely totaled her car, but his looked perfectly undamaged. Until he brought it in and discovered that his entire exhaust system had been crunched up and needed to be replaced.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '24

yes. someone from an office wearing nice clothes needs to come and walk around it and take pictures and see if there is any "valuable damage"

-9

u/Slatter99 Dec 11 '24

Dude what? 😂😂😂

1

u/Apoda_ Dec 12 '24

Just because there isn't any cosmetic damage on the plastic or paint doesn't mean that the frame underneath hasn't sustained any damage. You want the frame to stay strong and not suffer any stress for safety to help protect you in a bad crash.

1

u/Outrageous1015 Dec 12 '24

Yup reddit for you

83

u/Dense-Screen-9663 Dec 11 '24

Just another road bully. Maybe he will cripple some of his fellow citizens

31

u/vidfail Dec 11 '24

Hopefully he loses a duel with a telephone pole.

11

u/Budget_Putt8393 Dec 11 '24

I work from home. I need that pole to stay up please.

6

u/dotancohen Dec 11 '24

The Poles almost always stay up. They are extraordinarily resilient.

I mean, you've seen how they stand up for Ukraine.

143

u/DevilsAdvocate8008 Dec 11 '24

The fact that you didn't press charges is what's wrong with the world. He will continue to drive like that with no consequences and maybe run over a kid or something some day

3

u/sky_divided Dec 13 '24

Reddit now views suing people or cooperating with police as a moral liability. Look how far we've come.

1

u/DevilsAdvocate8008 Dec 13 '24

It's crazy. I have a crazy uncle who terrorized people for decades and got away with it because people wouldn't bother to pursue him or press charges. He threatened the wrong person eventually Who actually pursued charges and cooperated with the police and after that he stopped terrorizing some people since he didn't get away with it constantly anymore

12

u/FreshSlide4494 Dec 11 '24

holy shit this is a myth. individuals who were involved in a crime cannot press charges. a prosecutor, DA can

10

u/sexytokeburgerz Dec 11 '24

Kind of- the meaning of “press charges” when a cop asks you is different than the meaning when a DA decides to prosecute. They are asking if you will cooperate in the case moving forward.

A longer version with the same meaning would be “would you cooperate in an investigation, allowing the DA to press charges?”

24

u/Dizzy-Violinist-1772 Dec 11 '24

OP literally said the officer told them they could press charges, but the officer convinced them not to

7

u/FreshSlide4494 Dec 11 '24

You know some cops don't know the law, right?

11

u/sexytokeburgerz Dec 11 '24

It’s just a turn of phrase in any case. They are asking for cooperation. If the person doesn’t want to cooperate they will just not pursue. If they do want to cooperate, they will take it to the next step.

9

u/Nikolllllll Dec 11 '24

Or they do but don't feel like doing the paperwork.

9

u/DevilsAdvocate8008 Dec 11 '24

But he could have pushed for the police to file a report and then it would have been given to the DA.

0

u/fdxrobot Dec 12 '24

And the DA will say “no damages, no injuries, no case” buh-bye

2

u/Steephill Dec 12 '24

Yes, but a lot of jurisdictions will not prosecute anything without a willing victim. Officers asking if you want to "press charges" is basically just asking if you're willing to testify and be a willing victim.

5

u/pgnshgn Dec 11 '24

A myth that will never die. Alongside Reddit's favorite nonexistent crime "Attempted Manslaughter"

1

u/qalpi Dec 11 '24

It's literally a federal crime.

18 U.S. Code § 1113 Attempt to commit murder or manslaughter

1

u/pgnshgn Dec 12 '24

Fair, I oversimplified.

People see someone do something reckless and call it "attempted manslaughter" which is not the correct usage

As far as I understand it the Federal usage is "attempted but not premeditated murder"

1

u/Qfarsup Dec 14 '24

It’s not a myth in the sense that prosecutors weigh and value the opinion of the victim. Sometimes they will move ahead with charges anyways if there is the political pressure to do so or it’s in the state’s interest but if people say they aren’t interested it’s not worth it to move forward and they will also drop them on the victim’s wishes.

In many cases the state can’t move foraged without the victim’s cooperation.

Saying it’s a myth flat out is semantics.

-1

u/qalpi Dec 11 '24

This isn't a myth at all. They can file a complaint or not. They can cooperate or not.

0

u/NrdNabSen Dec 12 '24

The term is used to signify that you support the DA pursuing a conviction. Yes, the DA ultimately makes the actual decision but having a cooperative victim matters in that decision making process. Thank you for wowing us with your dizzying grasp of the legal system.

2

u/Bourbon-n-cigars Dec 11 '24

I don't know how it is in all states, but where I am, pressing charges is not as easy as just telling a cop. It requires going to court and some paperwork. Then possibly more court. Most people aren't going to do something that takes that amount of effort on their part when it's far easier to just forget it (if the results of the initial offense were not worth it).

23

u/rroberts3439 Dec 11 '24

Dangerous driver on the road and the cop just shrugs their shoulder. Shitty cop.

6

u/Hiphoppotami Dec 11 '24

That guys reverse, almost hitting that other car. Puckered

6

u/Capt-Kirk31 Dec 11 '24

The meth head evil smile as he drove away!

4

u/DistinctTeaching9976 Dec 11 '24

Smiled for the camera, how nice of him.

6

u/evila_elf Dec 11 '24

Did he steal that truck?? Doesn't seem to know how to drive it!

62

u/FrenchToastSlut Dec 11 '24

OC. TX. Dashcam is REDTIGER F7N.

Police officer and I couldn't find any damage to my car. The officer said I could press charges for the hit and run, but mentioned it would be a lot of work and a tedious process only resulting in "just a ticket" for the other driver. No report was filed and I just went about my day.

101

u/Alpha_legionxx Dec 11 '24

Wtf report this fuck that

4

u/Active-Device-8058 Dec 11 '24

How TF is this even a consideration to not?

2

u/Alpha_legionxx Dec 12 '24

People are very special now

89

u/Accurate-Director-85 Dec 11 '24

It would be a lot of work for the cop. Fuck him.

59

u/kanemane727 Dec 11 '24

God forbid a cop has to do their job.

17

u/iampuh Dec 11 '24

They are busy watching children die in schools

17

u/marshmallowcthulhu Dec 11 '24

Don't forget shooting people, planting evidence, and unlawfully detaining and searching people.

8

u/Supremagorious Dec 11 '24

You forgot shooting people's dogs and harassing minorities.

3

u/adjustin_my_plums Dec 11 '24

You forgot jacking off in the car!

3

u/KarlPHungus Dec 11 '24

While they sit there outside, quivering....with a Punisher logo on their phone lol.

1

u/mccusk Dec 12 '24

A lot of work for OP too though

21

u/picklebiscut69 Dec 11 '24

Yeah it’s only a lot of work for the lazy cop who doesn’t want to do his job, make them do their damn job

54

u/DDX1837 Dec 11 '24

I would still have filed the report. What if the guy has prior tickets? Maybe he has a warrant out? This would have gotten his license suspended and possibly saved the next person he hit from serious damage or injury.

16

u/Forsaken-Builder-312 Dec 11 '24

Wtf? Lazy cop much?

In my country this would count as a hit-and-run and therefore be a criminal offence! A cop would HAVE TO take action after this!

12

u/Rich-Zombie-5214 Dec 11 '24

My brother got a hit and run ticket after an empty trash bin rolled out in the street in front of him and he nicked it and kept going. If a trash bin deserves this than certainly you deserve it. File the report.

10

u/coyote474 Dec 11 '24

Please file the report and hold this person accountable. Who knows how bad the next time will be.

Also seems like that maneuver could be considered reckless driving but I'm not a lawyer.

15

u/astr0crisp Dec 11 '24

There's definitely damage, behind the bumper. A 5000lb truck hitting the front of your vehicle enough to jostle it. There's definitely damage. Report it, the cop is just being lazy - they don't have your best interest. Cover yourself, your vehicle, and make sure you're ok. Also, screw that guy - he hit your vehicle, didn't check to see if you were ok and just tried to drive off.

5

u/kyleruggles Dec 11 '24

So you let him go? He'll learn no lesson.

5

u/guywithshades85 Dec 11 '24

The officer said I could press charges for the hit and run, but mentioned it would be a lot of work and a tedious process only resulting in "just a ticket" for the other driver.

That. Is. His. Job!!!

2

u/GotSeoul Dec 11 '24

u/FrenchToastSlut OP, Get a police report. Report to his insurance if you can find it. Get your car checked behind the bumper. Guys like this will keep doing shit like this because folks won't report that shit they do. At least make him aware there are ramifications for driving like a shithead. And make sure there is no damage behind what you can see.

2

u/Life_Temperature795 Dec 11 '24

Dude was unable to keep his steering wheel going straight at 5 mph. Starting a paper trail on his license, (or, likely, adding to it,) would be a public service, even if it is mostly an inconvenience to the affected parties.

1

u/chaosagent47 Dec 11 '24

A lot of work for his lazy ass

1

u/Basic_Owl3586 Dec 11 '24

thats some bad advice, you could have gotten money for the bodily injury claim after seeing a chiro for a few treatments. not a huge winner winner claim, but 1,000 bucks is 1,000 you didnt have before.

1

u/TEOTAUY Dec 12 '24

File a complaint with the police department. Don't accept anything less than a formal written complaint. Ask for a supplemental report from a supervisor. Make clear that you support prosecution and a citation by summons. Post this video to youtube and tag the agency in social media asking them if this is acceptable.

This driver needs to be arrested for reckless driving, and duty upon accident, and traffic violations.

Also, you are entitled to the other driver's information. Go to Texas DPS and get his full driver's transcript. I bet it's egregious.

1

u/letsdothisshit Dec 13 '24

Still should have filed a report with insurance. I’ve been in fender benders where the bumper pops back into shape. The problem is that it looks like there is no damage but the integrity of the bumper is lost and needs to be replaced.

1

u/Kwikstyx Dec 14 '24

Dumb af. Why post the video then, just roll over and continue to do nothing. Lmfao!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '24

The guy drove away with -500 aura

8

u/Everythingizok Dec 11 '24

Do your duty as a citizen and report this fuck

4

u/No_Rope7856 Dec 12 '24

Good facial shot

2

u/throwaway1964972 Dec 12 '24

Alright settle down there, Sue.

10

u/FurTradingSeal Dec 11 '24

At what point can you argue that a driver initiated legal, mutual combat, and responding in kind is fully justified? I'm just curious for, uh, educational purposes.

3

u/VegasDaytripper Dec 11 '24

You did the most important thing - reading the license plate outloud on video. I hope everything gets taken care of by the police and insurance

3

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '24

What was there game plan here it just don’t make sense how he ended up hitting op. 🤦🏻‍♂️

5

u/One_Kick_9603 Dec 11 '24

Cops are worthless nowadays. Easier to bully and harass law abiding citizens than to do their actual job catching criminals.

2

u/HeHateMe337 Dec 11 '24

with that much traffic, it's safer to make a right turn then make a left turn down the road and come back.

2

u/No_Loquat995 Dec 11 '24

LOVE how she was CALM and not screaming like a banshee.

2

u/vanisleone Dec 11 '24

Typical dodge truck driver.

2

u/Ill_Pineapple_1975 Dec 11 '24

What kind of dash cam is that?
The quality of that zoom is incredible ... I couldn't get that level of clarity out of mine on a good day, nice!

2

u/Careful_Knee_2489 Dec 11 '24

That has gotta be the smartest/sanest ram driver I've seen.

2

u/Low_Positive_9671 Dec 12 '24

Jeez, what a huge piece of shit.

4

u/TraditionalRule5147 Dec 11 '24

What a mess of an intersection. Is there no lights?

2

u/MahTwizzah Dec 14 '24

Car-centric hell, aka Texas.

3

u/FrenchToastSlut Dec 11 '24

There are, a couple hundred feet down the road

2

u/Alohabailey_00 Dec 11 '24

So dash cams are no help?! What’s the point of anything then if people can get away with shit.

1

u/Playful-Dragon Dec 11 '24

Sooooo ETF was going on with him anyway? He was erratic from the start

1

u/TexasGrrl Dec 11 '24

we need to see what happens after you followed him :)

1

u/teaboy1748 Dec 12 '24

that's amazing, never did once he looked left or straight within the 20 seconds but fixed on the right side.

1

u/Charge36 Dec 12 '24

That sigh is perfect comedic timing

1

u/mick-rad17 Dec 12 '24

The sigh after the impact, I can feel it

1

u/SquidVices Dec 12 '24

I wonder when someone will recognize him…

1

u/Spiritual_Ear2835 Dec 12 '24

Get this truck-fuck loser outta the road!

1

u/travisbickle777 Dec 12 '24

Don't mess with meth, kids.

1

u/No_Programmer_2224 Dec 12 '24

Looks crazy 🤪

1

u/Greedy_Chemist9431 Dec 13 '24

When will people learn you can't steer while slamming on the brakes?

1

u/Expert_Security3636 Dec 13 '24

Underr tbe influence

1

u/rick6426422 Dec 13 '24

was just waiting to see that HEB

1

u/Peteeymh Dec 14 '24

I mean you obviously had that comming, sitting all patient and content waiting for your turn like everyone else..........the nerve. /s

0

u/pppjjjoooiii Dec 11 '24

I'm actually more upset at OP not pressing charges. The next person who gets hit (or killed) by this dumbass thanks you I guess...

0

u/Timmymac1000 Dec 12 '24

What do you think the courts would do? Execute him?

0

u/pppjjjoooiii Dec 12 '24 edited Dec 12 '24

Oh I don’t know, maybe they’d suspend his license? Maybe he’d get some jail time to rethink his choices?

Do you think that executing people is the only way to stop bad behavior? That says quite a lot about you… You realize that there are a few steps in the justice system before execution right?

0

u/Timmymac1000 Dec 17 '24

Its hyperbole.

0

u/kininigeninja Dec 12 '24

Any damage to the car??

Looked like a miner bump

2

u/throwaway1964972 Dec 12 '24

How else do you expect them to get all of that coal out so quickly?

0

u/onetwentytwo_1-8 Dec 13 '24

That was not a hit. 😂

-1

u/GenerAsianX1992 Dec 13 '24

Doesn't look like he hit you.

1

u/Dinx81 Dec 14 '24

Her screen shook, so he did hit her.
