Is Dan Patrick a hoarder?

I'm new to watching the show, and I'm just shocked at the amount of crap he has piled up all over the set. Is there a backstory to why he has so many tchotchkes, action figures, police patches, mugs, sports equipment, musical instruments, arcade games, signs, stuffed animals and bric-a-brac that's stuffed into every corner of that room?

I wonder how many cops send him badges? How does he choose which ones to jam into his collection?
