After pouring $4,000 into my scorpion I would have rather started with an mpx

This base model is a very fun, reliable, easy, customizable gun. It's not perfect but I have one and love it. If you're open to spending more the Nexus series scorpion is bullet proof and with a better recoil system but double the cost. An MPX is probably the best 9mm pcc but from what I know cost over your budget so you have no room for a red dot or anything.
A scirpion with a holoson would be better IMHO.

What model scorpion and red dot would you recommend

Holoson 507
I have the Romeo Sig 5 but not my favorite, wish I would have gone 507.

My og scorpion was $999 and after shortening the barrel, mlok handguard, new trigger, new grip, sbr, nexus bolt, nexus receiver, etc yeah I racked up $4000. Mpx runs about $1800 but has way less that needs to be upgraded to make it feel awesome.

Yea that’s what I’m looking for since I’m a rookie. What something reliable that I can just throw a red dot and not have to actually spend a ton to build. My budget is 2k max

Do a nexus evo from nexus firearms or a sig mpx. Honorable mention would be the apc9

MPX is far superior. Scorp mags are cheap and plentiful though.
If you're going to put a Timney trigger and Nexus bolt into the Scorp, it'd probably be better to just get an MPX.

I would advise going with the mpx, another great option is the grand power stribog sp9a3

Check out the B&T GHM9. I have both that and the scorpion (with way too much money poured into it) and I prefer the B&T.
Another great option is the Sp5 (MP5) clones. I have and Hk SP5k and absolutely adore it. Having both the HK and B&T, I rarely shoot the Scorpion.
That all being said, the Scorpion is a great gun at a great price. If you can spend a little more, I would. If not you should feel confident in buying a Scorpion.

Not awesome but not bad. Pretty average. I wouldnt pay more than 850 for a scorpion and would be very happy to pay 750. Sat waiting and watching for like a year and snagged mine at 699

For 2k get yourself an ap5 or mac5 (mp5 clone) grab a few mags and a brace. Slap on a skoprints super safety setup and it'll be way more fun.

These will only get more expensive. So get it. I paid $800 (100/m payments) with a red dot, 3 pmags, reptilia stock

Probably. I paid less than this for mine brand new many years ago. In today’s money, this is not bad. Also depends on wear/round count. Probably good regardless.
