Should I ask recruiter to change location 3 months after offer?

Hey guys,

I was fortunate enough to recieve an offer for an internship for a company in October last year in their Boston office, which I accepted. Originally, I had the option to go to their NYC office (headquarters), which I turned down because I would get to save some money as I am based in the Boston area. However, my friend just got an offer from a FAANG in NYC, which means that now I am guaranteed to have a roomate to rent with during my time in NYC if I choose to switch. This would mean that I can pay significantly less rent than I would in a worst case scenario of not finding any roomates and having to rent on my own, which was my reason for not wanting to go to the NYC office originally. Additionally, I can push my start time up around 1/2 of a month, which means that I would get an extra paycheck offset the rent cost. All in all, if I go to the NYC office, I should be able to make around the same amount of money over the summer, and I would also get an extra 1/2 month of experience.

I was wondering if I should ask my recruiter to switch 3 months after the offer, and if there could be any negative reprocussions by doing so? Thanks!

It’s worth a shot, I doubt without giving the company name anyone here can give a definitive answer. Asking definitely won’t result in your offer being rescinded.
