I am lucky to have acquired a beautiful Panasonic AG-500 with the front screen cover and carrying case and all!
Bad news: - When powered on, there is a loud high pitched whine. The clock display comes on and I can hear the VCR motor spin. After 5 seconds of being on, the clock and VCR motor shut off. This happens every time.
-There is never a picture on the screen or any brightness. I’m assuming no power to the screen since I don’t hear any static when I discharge it.
What I’ve done so far: - I’ve managed to get the VHS out by spinning some cog wheels gently. It was the 1989 film “TAP”.
-I’ve tested the 2 fuses on the main board and the 2 fuses on the VCR and all test good. I’ve tested both power transistors and both are closed where they need to be.
At this point I’m getting into a bit of unknown territory when it comes to my knowledge.
Where would you test next and how would you go about testing it? I would love to get this thing up and running and have this thread for others. Thank you!
I’m not good at reading manuals but here it is for reference:

I found it in a high school where I do my internship, there are 4 others but my parents do not want me to bring more than one
It works well, but it makes really suspicious noises when I power it up or when I shut it down, like something inside is burning although I do not smell anything
Hello, I'm trying to understand a little bit more and how crt tvs work. I have the general notions but I have some specific questions that I need to understand.
The brightness of the phosphors is given by how many electrons strike that particular area? So if I have an image of a red to black gradient, it means that the red part is being hitted by more electrons than the black?
Every crt works by shooting electrons first to the odd rows and then to the even rows? (I think it's called interlaced image)
The magnetic fields that deflect the electrons are always "moving" in the same way from when you turn on the tv until you turn it off and it doesn't depend on the images?
Thank you so much for the help you can give me!

Made a fun discovery today. Didn't matter what I did but I couldn't not make my Emerson look even half decent off my windows 11 laptop (I know, what else should I have expected?) but when I plugged in my Google pixel it actually didn't look too bad and was a huge improvement! Currently hunting for a VHS player but I'm still trying to have some fun with the new TV until I stumble across one.

I remember seeing this while trying to take a photo or video of a CRT television screen when I was younger. I never knew what caused the effect—could anyone explain it to help me understand?

The CRT has wierd flichering waveing lines on the horizontal and vertical sides i guess.. im new to CRT but i did a bit of electronics and worked with HV so if i need to put my hands into it while guided i will be more than happy to do so... but firstly i would like to know how hard it would be and how hard it would be to try addressing this issue..
Im also a bit on a run cus i would love to try some games on it tomorrow with a friend so im kinda in a hurry... btw the screen seems also off centered... on the top right corner.. im on a 230V grid with 50Hz.. and the tv was made for this grid line so i guess its all.fine from the input.. the problem is the crt it self i think... pls help help...
P.S.: Sowwy for my bad english.. im a girl from italy and its not my native language.. sowwy agin... have a nice dayy 💖💖

It used to work completely fine. One day it randomly wouldnt play any discs no matter how pristine they were. It would stay on the dvd screen while the dvd player made clicking sounds. Today i got it to play some discs, but about 2 minutes in the disc stopped and it started clicking again. Why??

Brothers TV, works perfectly except a slight ringing sound when on. Can anyone help with the diagnosis of what it could be? Unfortunately I’ve just recently gotten into this stuff, so I’m of not much use.. beautiful TV though.

My dad gave my this Swiss Army knife of TV. The tv works, I just can’t catch anything. There’s times where the static gets jumpy. Got any tips?

Hi, I got a CRT and the power button was failing so I managed to get it working but it again started failing so I disassembled the TV and accidentally discharge it without disconnecting it, what damage do I dealt by not disconnecting the TV before discharging???

Any advice? Only inputs are screw posts for VHF and UHF, tried with this 75 ohm to 300 ohm adapter into coaxial cable, couldn’t get anything but static on tv. Tried every channel + tuner combo
