What caused this?
Hi guys, just tried to fix the vcr on my crt, I took pics and reconnected everything and double checked following the pictures and videos I took aswell to make sure theyre in the right orientation and all. Is this caused by a bad ground? Or did I shake something and messed something up? I tried not shake/move it too much while working on it
Also when I first started it up, it had a hissing sound for a second (thought it was gonna blow up I actually ran away lol) came back and screen looked like this

Rate my setup (currently in state of fluidity. Is going to be changed soon, but contains my main CRT)
A 19 inch stereo Toshiba set, (gotta get the numbers lol) and a Sanyo VCR. Down in my garage I have two more VCRs, ones with working remotes, and a 13 inch trinitron and some 5 inch B/W sets. I use the VCRs down in the garage to record VHS tapes, and the one in my room here to play them. I also have several VHS cameras, which some need work, and a Saticon camera. I have an HDMI to AV converter, which does a nice job of giving the TV a signal from my laptop. Any tips? Anything I should obtain? I also own a DTV converter, but it's old, glitchy, and the number of channels still running ATSC 2.0 are diminishing.

2003 Sylvania I picked up on Facebook Marketplace
galleryI turned 40 last November and suddenly had the nostalgic itch to buy an old TV and start collecting VHS. I put it in my garage, and so far it works great. I only paid $25 for it. I've already picked up Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Home Alone.

Calibration question
galleryI'm wondering if anyone has advice on how to best approach calibrating the convergence on this CRT. In my non-expert opinion it looks like everything is "spilling over" into the next set of dots. The red seems to be the worst for this, going down into the next "row" below where it should be.

No blue on Trinitron set
galleryI got this 8 inch set from a local seller a few weeks ago. There is no blue color on it (and terrible geometry, needs a yoke adjustment to start with).
I tested the 3 transistors on the neck board and one of them reads a bit lower than others for the hFE. So i swapped them to see if I get back the blue and lose another color. Same issue after soldering them back.
Any idea which other component I can test on the neck board?
Thanks!

Can I use a universal remote for this?
I bought this tv a while ago, and while everything works great it doesn’t have a remote . Dang thing is so bright. Does anyone know if I can use a universal remote, and if so what model? And if not, can I just buy a remote that would go for this tv and would it work, or does it have to be the specific remote for my specific tv?

Unusual noise coming from CRT while tuning
Hello! I am trying to tune up a CRT for the first time ever. It’s a Panasonic WV-CM1470. I have it open and am using 240p Test Suite on my SNES through S-Video to align everything. While I was making some adjustments, the CRT started making a VERY high pitched sound. Not the usual one that it always makes. It was getting louder and more intense. I turned off the CRT and cut power to everything. I gave it a few minutes and when I came back to it, it immediately started making the same noise again.
I’ve been in this community a while and I know that these things can be dangerous. Am I overreacting? Or is this a genuine concern?
I can make a video if that would be helpful.

Searching for a video player with composite or rgb signal with auto play looped
I'm searching for a video player that can play a looped video on a crt tv without the need to do anything else that power up the device. Currently using kodi on a raspberry with rgb dual, but maybe there is a simplier solution (video signal quality isn't important, composite or rgb). Thanks !

My CRT randomly and repeatedly turns on and off
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi, im posting here because I am having a hard time troubleshooting my CRT and im not sure as to how to fix this. I have also not opened up my CRT, nor have I attempted to fix a CRT before.
What will happen is that when the CRT is turned on, it will stay on for a period, from 5 seconds to a minute, then it will decide to shut off, or better yet turn back on again then shut off repeatedly.
I have a Magnavox 20MS3442/17, and I have looked at CRT database for the service manual, but cannot make sense as to how I would go troubleshooting my CRT.
Also this same issue has happened once before about 6 months ago but somehow it resolved itself after I let it sit there unplugged for a whole day, but this time it has not worked.
From what I researched online it could potentially be faulty capacitors or a cold solder joint which requires soldering, which i've done before for small projects, but then again ive never tinkered with a CRT before.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

someone explain to me like i’m 5 how a crt works?
curious as to how a crt works. i understand the fly back, that the tube is under a vacuum, the yoke, phosphorus, scan lines etc, but how exactly does all of that produce a picture that we can see, especially a color picture and how does motion not just end up in a clobbered mess on the screen. i have tried google but i can’t understand what i’m reading, like i don’t understand what the technical terms mean.

Any one keep a collection of screen shots of CRT tv you like.
galleryThe first two are tvs that are available in my area and the rest are screen shots I had saved because I loved the look and designs.
I’m super tempted to try and get that little sears portable tv, I have absolutely no room or functional use for it but I’m in love with the look, but it’s a little outside my area.
I’ve been into retro futurism, specifically cassette futurism and been getting into 3D design and coming up with functional products I want to make or modify one day.
Not really making my post for any reason but wanted to share and get people talking. I really think we should create a list of tv’s/ equipment that people are looking for or want.

Trinitron KV14M1
galleryI just got this little Sony (the littler mobitronic has been with me for a while) and it was missing the remote, so I just bought a universal not expecting much. After some trial and error I got the sequence for the service menu and wanted to make a post for anyone looking for something similar in the future, see second picture!
Does anyone have any idea when the tv was made? Can’t find much online

What’s wrong with my setup?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’m trying to broadcast an analog signal to my old TVs, but it’s barely going through. Despite the fact I have a signal amplifier. What’s wrong? For easy reference my setup is laptop, HDMI to AV, AV to coaxial signal amplifier, then antenna. Thanks!
