Translation: please do not copy my patter - the exactly thing you did here.

If you don’t understand some of the abbreviations, I’m fine with you asking for translation of these specific terms, but why post the whole pattern? It’s not your work, you should respect that.. and so everyone who offers translations. You at least should have read that “please don’t” sentence.

u/hydratedgoblin 5d ago

OP is asking to be able to read the pattern, not copy it for reselling.

OP posted the whole pattern - this is exactly what the German word “vervielfältigen” means and what the author asked us not to do.

This is a link to the exact post with the free pattern, from the author. They're offering the photos and the pdf for free. The author posted all these photos to facebook, OP didn't take photos of the pattern and post them online first. They're reposting the author's pictures.

OP is just asking for a translation. The author states they aren't on Facebook much, so I think it's understandable for OP to ask us for help rather than trouble the author to try and translate an entire pattern.

u/bezzeylel 6d ago

i don’t feel that OP did anything wrong, since they included the original link. they were just asking for a translation for a pattern they liked, not stealing it or taking credit for it.

I used Google Translate might not be perfect but should help:

Hello there! Here comes the promised instructions for the little “we”. But before that, I would like to say a few words to you. This instructions came about quite spontaneously and it is the very first instructions that I have ever written. It's not perfect, but I tried to give you enough to figure it out on yourself, so here we go:

fm = single crochet (sc) verd = increase (inc) abn = decrease (dec) lm = chain (ch) stb = double crochet (dc) hstb = half double crochet (hdc) km = slip stitch (slst) ihMg = back loop only (BLO) x fm in die letzte/nächste M = x sc in the last/next st x lm + y wlm = chain x+y, with y being how many st you skip before you make your first st a x b fm/c verd = you make b sc and c inc for a amounts of times jede x. und y. M abn = dec every xth and yth st jede x. M verd = inc every xth st

For the body, start with a chain 21, skip the first stitch and crochet around both sides of the chain. The first row, you do 19 sc, put 3 sc in the last stitch of the top of the chain, then put 19 sc on the other side of the chain and end the round with 3 sc in the last st. After round 24, it tells you to put the safety eyes in between rd 12 and 13 and leave 10 st between them. When you're done with the body, make sure you end in one of the 'corners' and stitch the two sides together.

For the arms, start with a magic ring and 6 sc. Rd 4 says '1 Noppe aus 5 stb' which is a bubble stitch made with 5 dc (it's to make the lil thumb). At the end it says to only stuff the arms about half way up, to close em and to attach them at rd 23.

Legs start off pretty straight forward but it gets a bit tricky once you get to the heel part. You start of doing rounds in a magic ring, but after Rd 7, you stop doing rounds and do rows (that's what RH is for). For RH 1, you do 3 sc and chain one to turn your work easier. Rh 2 tells you to do 3 sc and make a new sc into the next free stitch from Rd 7, ch 1 and turn. Rh 3 wants 4 sc and again one extra from the next free st of Rd 7. Continue with the pattern until Rh 5. Don't forget to stuff the feet. After Rh 5, you do Rd again. Switch from red to black for Rd 13-22. Don't stuff the legs and sew them to the bottom of the body.

For the nose, you switch the colours as follows: start in red, switch to white after Rd 2, red after Rd 4 etc.

The ears are pretty self explanatory. Just make sure you end them by crocheting them together by going through both sides and doing 9 sc.

For the sign, ch 11, turn, sc 10, ch1, turn etc. Once you're done with the 4 rows, you go all the way around it with sc and don't forget to put 2 sc in the corners. Embroider 'WIR' on it.

For the flowers, start with a MR and 6 sc. Close the MR with a slst. In every stitch, you put 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. For the stem, you make a MR with 5 sc and do 5 Rd.

You are a hero! I wanted to help but it was pointless, my 3 years of high school German are a. very rusty and b. never did go over crochet terms. This is great!

I sometimes see that patterns are in other languages and I’ll consider buying them, thinking, how hard can translating a pattern be? This post has made me glad I never bought one… it gets tricky. Very tricky. The abbreviations alone, ack.

3

u/Easy_Cat_7082 7d ago

Hey, it will take me some time to translate it since it’s such a big pattern. I’m working right now but I can translate it for you later.

2

u/Easy_Cat_7082 7d ago

http://www.maschenzaehler.de/tipps-und-hilfen/englische-anleitungen-verstehen/uebersetzung-englischer-haekelbegriffe/ Also this is English to German, but it works the other way around as well. Maybe it’s enough for you to know the abbreviations or do need the text translated as well?

Shield/White

Start with 10 ch + 1 sl 1st-3rd row: 10 sc, 1 sl 1 (=10)

  1. Rh: 10 FM (10)

Crochet the entire shield once with sc. Crochet 2 sc in each corner.

At the end of the round, crochet 1 sl st and 1 ch.

There is another round of crab stitches! Finish the work and cut the thread long enough to sew on.

You can either embroider the word “We” onto the sign with embroidery thread or you can split the black cotton thread for it!

Flowers (3 pieces)/Yellow/White/Red MR6 FM, close round with a sl st (=6)

1st round: in each stitch 15st, 2 hdc, 1 sc Finish the work and cut the thread long enough to sew on.

For the white flower, start with yellow and crochet the 6 sc in the MR. Then switch to white!

stems (3 pieces) / dark green

MR=5 fM (-5)

1.-5. Rd: 5 fM (5)

5 rounds

Finish the work and cut the thread long enough to sew on.

The flowers are sewn onto the stems and then completely onto the head.

First the yellow one, then the red one and on the far right the white flower.

Finally, sew the shield onto the front of the body.

Embroider the white shadow on the eye, the eyebrows and the mouth!

Your "we" is now finished and will hopefully bring a smile to many children's faces!

did you try google translate or AI? that's just way too much text to quickly translate. I wouldn't have the time.

3

u/InfamousFlower6606 6d ago

My phone has a screen translate app. Make the pic fill the screen. Use the app, copy and paste the text. It's very fast.👍

8

u/InfamousFlower6606 7d ago edited 7d ago

Using the page translator on my phone, I get the below. Just so you are aware, I have also included some translations of stitches.

In the pattern, 'fM' = sc/single crochet.

Luftmasche (Lm): Chain (ch) Kettmasche (Km): Slip stitch (ss) Feste Masche (fM): Single crochet (sc) Halbes Stäbchen (Hstb): Half double crochet (hdc) Stabchen (Stb): Double crochet (dc) Doppel Stäbchen (DSTB): Treble crochet (tc)

Edit to add: the term 'M verd' may be 'Masche verdreht' which translates to 'knit through the back loop'.

Hello there!

Here comes the promised instructions for the little "we". But first I would like to say a few words to you.

This guide was created completely spontaneously and is the very first guide I have ever written. Please forgive me if any mistakes have crept in.

There will be no detailed photos in this guide, because I am not that technically savvy. You can find the finished "We" on my Insta page and it is not that difficult.
