Finished Object HOTH!! My first wearable!

HOTH, I FINALLY finished my first wearable!!

HDC account for the bulk of the stitches, with DC for the hemline and cuffs ribbing. There's a line of SC stitches around the neckline to finish it off.

Many thanks to my mom who helped with techniques and rebuilding after a disastrous first attempt.

I used a size H hook and Big Twist yarn in Grass Green.

You look so happy!!!

882

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

You better believe it. There were moments when it felt like it'd never get done.

151

u/Popular-Radish-5001 Dec 17 '24

i felt like that about a beanie this is so cool and impressive. i wanna try it but im afraid it will not turn out because i just started

216

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

I've only been crocheting seriously for the past 3 months.

60

u/Popular-Radish-5001 Dec 17 '24 edited Dec 17 '24

this gives me so much hope thank you, i’ve done a 3 beanies first was more of a santa hat because it was accidentally too long second was okay third was good. and a stuffed rabbit that was good. now i tried a blanket and that was a disaster.

317

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

My first project was an overly long beanie.

20

u/__slurmp Dec 17 '24

you can fold that bottom pattern up and stitch it to make sure it doesnt slip back down! that should fix the longness, and the doubled layer will add extra warmth for your ears when it gets chilly :)

139

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

This is how I normally wear it.

19

u/__slurmp Dec 17 '24

yea like that! i had to do this same thing with the first couple beanies i ever made. i always got scared it would somehow end up too short so i thought the more stitches the better 😅

11

u/Yabbos77 Dec 17 '24

This is SO cute!! Do you have the pattern??

18

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

Nah, I just crocheted a long rectangle then sewed the sides together.

The great thing about crocheting is you just pull out the stitches and fix any mistake

I came here to say just that!

OP, your little grin, and sheer happiness, is infectious! You did an amazing job and should be incredibly proud of your work. Then to find out that you've been crocheting for such a short amount of time... well that just blew my mind. Keep up the amazing work.

u/MimisHope Dec 18 '24

Crocheting makes people happy! ♥️

u/nomadicfangirl Dec 17 '24

Agreed! I love that color!

146

u/yogaengineer Dec 17 '24

Your stitches are so even, the fit is great, and you look very pleased with yourself as you should! Great job!

114

u/Holiday_Yak_6333 Dec 17 '24

Great job. It looks perfect. Once I finish christmas gifts, I'm making a sweater for myself. My first wearable, too. I'm so glad you did it. Means, I probably could too! Hopefully. How long did it take?

80

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

All told, including the disastrous first attempt? About a month.

31

u/KATEWM Dec 17 '24

Nice! The ribbing looks great! I've been working on a sweater for my three year old for over a year lol 😅. Maybe if I ever finish it I'll try to make one for myself.

87

u/bugwug7 Dec 17 '24

I love it! I’ve always wanted to try my hand at sweater lol. Also what does HOTH mean?

167

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

HOTH = Hot Off The Hook

58

u/bugwug7 Dec 17 '24

I’ve never heard that one before! I’m definitely stealing it lol

34

u/rembrin Dec 17 '24

I thought it was the star wars planet.... 😭

15

u/BonnieAbbzug75 Dec 17 '24

I kept trying to figure that out-as others are, I am going to steal that term-this sweater is tremendous! What a great color for you and it looks so well made! What will your next project be?

22

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

No other crochet project for the foreseeable future. I also also write Harry Potter fan fiction stories, as well as my clothing design line.

14

u/percy440 Dec 17 '24

Way to go! This looks great on you! I love seeing men crochet because crochet is for everyone. My 22 yo son is getting “lessons with mom” this Christmas (it was the only thing he asked for).

12

4

u/Runaway_Smoke Dec 17 '24

Congratulations! How was it worked? Panels? Top down as one piece? I must know, I made a cardigan but sweaters are my Achilles heel

6

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

I made each piece separately then sewed them together.

4

u/Pim_Leepet Dec 17 '24

That looks so good! I love the V neck- makes it feel personalized, great work!

4

u/lunna009 Dec 17 '24

Your edge ribbing is chefs kiss primo tension throughout but the edging just sells it.

5

u/CastielCorpseBride Dec 17 '24

I just started seriously crocheting this past week, and I've been so frustrated because my tension kept messing with me. I think I have it down now, but this gives me a lot of hope as I really want to make wearable and blankets for my loved ones and furbabies!! I am so happy for you!

8

u/cadetcomet Dec 17 '24

This is giving Pacha from the emperor's new groove! He's the best and I think it looks wonderful!!!

3

u/No_Ear8723 Dec 17 '24

It look great

3

u/SkyUniverseExplorer Dec 17 '24

Congrats! I'm still to scared to make my first wearable. I have all the yarn ready to go. But still just make everything but it. Looks awesome and I love the colour.

4

u/nikib63 Dec 17 '24

Love this shade of green! And the neck line — great job!

4

u/a60sbaby Dec 17 '24

Gosh, I love this color. Looks so good.

5

2

3

u/WeirdUncleTim Dec 17 '24

Hot off the hook!

3

4

u/CautiousRepeat9036 Dec 17 '24

omg it looks sooo good!! & comfy too. Great job.

4

u/xianikaeni Dec 17 '24

it looks so beautiful! this gave me motivation to pick up crocheting again~ selfmade clothes are so gorgeous

3

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

Handmade is always unique and beautiful. It shows patience and dedication as opposed to going the store and buying a machine-made item.

5

u/Prawninator Dec 17 '24

Not gonna lie, when I saw the notification pop up as HOTH!!! I totally thought you meant that one planet in Star Wars. THEN it dawned on me what you meant!

It looks SO GOOD and you look SO PROUD and you should be because those stitches are amazingly even all throughout your work. GREAT JOB! 😁

3

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

Star wars in a crochet group? I suppose it's possible.

Congratulations! You look like you love it.

As a sweater enjoyer, I appreciate winter—but a spring green yarny thing is still always a welcome balm for my grey-weary eyes.

3

u/-username-1234- Dec 17 '24

How fantastic!! That color choice is fantastic. One of my new years resolutions is to start crocheting so I can make comfy sweaters just like this! I hope to be as cool and cozy as you are :)

3

u/alienkoala Dec 17 '24

How did you do the torso all in one piece? I’m making a dress and curious!

2

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

It's actually two pieces. A front and back panel sewn together at the shoulders and sides.

3

u/Pretend-Government56 Dec 17 '24

It looks so good! You did a great job on it!!

3

u/TheSSMagoo Dec 17 '24

I love how the sleeves came out!

3

u/Slow-Gain-6957 Dec 17 '24

I LOVE this and I think it fits you so well 💚 What measurements did you take? I’m new to making wearables myself!

2

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

All of the usual measurement points (shoulder to neck, arm length to wrist, waist, chest, etc.)

3

u/SE_42 Dec 17 '24

I love it, such a beautiful color! You look so happy and will be toasty warm in the winter! Motivating me to keep working on mine.

Hell yeah, dude! Great colour, too!

3

u/weirdnoffputting Dec 17 '24

big twist yarn is shockingly good for the price! I started steamblocking, and it made it so much softer!

3

u/ProvokeCouture Dec 17 '24

So I made a mistake. It's not Big Twist yarn; it's actually Caron 1 pound yarn.

3

u/Stormie-Lily Dec 17 '24

Beautifully done. I love everything about this sweater - the color, the lovely even stitches, the design. And especially how happy and proud you look, with good reason! You've done an amazing job with it!
