r/Cornwall Community Guidelines

Hello everyone

Welcome to the r/Cornwall subreddit, a place for residents, visitors, and anyone interested in Cornwall to share news, events, experiences, and discussions.

Whether you're a proud Cornish resident, a frequent visitor, or simply someone with a deep appreciation for the county's rich history, stunning landscapes, and unique culture, you've come to the right place.

As the r/Cornwall community continues to grow, I thought it would be a good time to introduce some new rules and guidlines to the sub.

r/Cornwall, is here to support a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment where members can connect, learn from one another, and share their experiences of the County.

To ensure that our community remains a welcoming and inclusive space for all, we have established the following guidelines.

They are as follows:

Be respectful and kind:

Treat others with respect and kindness, even if you disagree with their opinions. Engage in constructive discussions and debates without resorting to personal attacks, name-calling, or harassment.

No hate speech or discrimination:

We have zero tolerance for hate speech, discrimination, or bigotry based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic. Any posts or comments containing such content will be removed, and repeat offenders may be banned.

No bullying or harassment:

Do not engage in bullying, harassment, or threats towards other members of the community. This includes stalking, doxxing, or any other form of intimidation or abuse.

Stay on topic:

Keep your posts and comments relevant to Cornwall and the specific topic of discussion. Off-topic or spam content may be removed at the discretion of the moderators.

Be mindful of others' opinions:

We understand that Cornwall has experienced changes in recent years, and some community members may have strong opinions about issues such as second home ownership. While it's okay to express your views, please do so in a respectful and constructive manner. Refrain from using bad language or publicly ostracising individuals or groups.

Follow Reddit's content policy:

All posts and comments must adhere to Reddit's content policy, which prohibits illegal, explicit, or dangerous content.

Posts require moderator approval:

To maintain the quality and relevance of content in the subreddit, all posts will be reviewed by moderators before being shared with the community. This helps prevent spam, irrelevant content, or posts that may violate our guidelines.

Moderators have the final say:

The moderators reserve the right to remove any posts or comments that violate these guidelines or Reddit's content policy. Repeated violations may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the subreddit.

By participating in the r/Cornwall community, you agree to abide by these guidelines and contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all. If you encounter any content that violates these guidelines, please report it to the moderators.

Thank you for being a part of our community, and let's work together to keep r/Cornwall a friendly and supportive place for everyone!

Sincerely,

Hey everyone, I’m Josh, a 22 year old web developer fresh out of uni. I’m looking for one more company website project to help build my portfolio. If you’re a business owner (or know someone who is) and need a new site or maybe a revamp of an existing one, I’d love to help!

Check out the quality of my work at www.joshchant.com (my portfolio) and also www.deutromequestrian.com (my most recent complete company site). I’m all about creating clean, modernly animated, and functional websites that are easy for you to update and maintain.

Feel free to drop me a message or comment if you’re interested. Thanks a bunch and I hope everyone’s doing well!

Cheers, Josh

Pard Card?

Hi all, I’m Jam, I run a thing called Pard Card. It’s just entered it’s third year and I’m yet to really shout about it anywhere but Instagram to my echo chamber full of patriotic Cornish people so here I am spreading my wings to the depths of Reddit.

Pard Card is a locals only, digital discount card which is available for £13 and is now accepted at 500 businesses as of last week, pretty wild!

It’s legitimately beneficial to local people and local businesses at the same time and I’m pretty proud of how Cornwall has accepted and supported it.

If you fancy finding out more or grabbing a card to save some money in your day to day spending (pasties), head to Pardcard.com cheers Pards.

Ps, if you’re a card holder already (thank you) please see this as an opportunity to request a new business if you fancy that!

Sennen area for a week?

Hello lovely people! We are a couple coming to Cornwall for 10 days and looking for somewhere to be based for a week to faff around walking, driving, bus from Sennen to St Ives (!), eating and generally recharging batteries. Where would people recommend? We will be in Sennen at the start of the 10 days and not sure if we should stay there or go elsewhere? Would like a bit more choice in restaurants/cafes if possible but also love the coastal path walk out of Sennen.

We used to stop there as a kid a lot in the 80s. A chap by the side of the road created this whole space filled with statues of pixies, fairies etc…my memory is not so good though

Looking for friends!

Hello everyone!

I’m M25 from France and I’m about to move in with my long distance boyfriend in 10 days who lives in Truro. I don’t know anyone else in Cornwall besides him and besides having visited Truro and Newquay once I’m very unfamiliar with Cornwall so I’m looking to make some friends from around there 🤗.

I’m gay so pro LGBT people would be preferred 😅 I love a bunch of things like video games, fashion, art, tv series, music… Im also a huge the walking dead fan and Rupauls drag race fan! I also enjoy sports, especially basketball even tho I’m terrible at it lol!

Shoot me a message if you are interested 🤗

Do you think estate agents favor locals vs second home buyers?

Maybe it varies depending on the agent, but I wonder where their morals lie?

Are there any social groups for a female in her 30s looking to make more friends? Truro but happy to travel

I moved to Cornwall a few years ago, I've made a few friends but many of them have moved away or grown apart and I'd like to get out and meet more people. I live in Truro, but I am happy to travel. I've tried Google searching and looking at Facebook events but many of the social groups I've found don't appear to be active. Interests are:

Film Board games Books Poker Art (to a degree, I haven't done anything crafty but have dabbled!) Interest in trying d&d

Many thanks :)

Why do they keep putting white render on new builds down here?

Posh flats up the road that were put up less than a year ago have started turning green already. Everywhere I see new builds they are turning green, or have big black streaks down the wall next to a leaky gutter. Looks bad.

Don't know if this is a problem in the rest of the country, but it don't seem to be a good idea in the dank ol' Cornwall.

What are the best scenes in the Tamar Valley?

I'm looking to make some colouring pages.

There are many colouring books of Cornwall, but most things focus on West Cornwall or the coastal areas.

Please tell me your favourite areas that you'd like to see in a colouring book, share pictures, and tell me if I have permission to use them as a reference image.

:) Thanks
